Gee--doesnt EVERYONE have a "Red?" I know I do...in fact I have RS which means red striped; then I have Big Red, and then All Red who I sometimes call Red Squared(I dont know why) So Sclark-- it is OK to have two or more Reds! BTW--what is red in Greek? Why just do mythology? Teach the kids the language right away!
I have a question on your BO hens...in the pic the legs look like they might have scaly leg mite? They arent real clear so are kinda hard to see. The reason I am asking is because I had two of those hens and I always seemed to be fighting it with them! Curious minds--ya know?
Hey Deli--that pic of the Buff (I assume it is one of yours) looks more like a cochin to me! There are SO MANY FEATHERS!!!
had to laugh. OOOOh Italics...on accident!
I would join you guys on Saturday if I wasnt working! I am also traveling that evening to pic up the VERY PREGNANT Pearl. The dog coming form someplace South. Soon I will have PUPPIES! I need everyone with kids to come and socialize them with me when they are around 4 weeks! Been a while since I've had puppies here!
OK--time to sleep I do believe! Nighties! TerriO
(PS) Erin--so sorry about the ducks! While this has not happened to me it has to my neighbor. He clains that the coons reach in with their hands and pull the birds through the kennel mesh. He has put 1/4" hardware cloth around his pens. I hope you get the culprit whatever it is!
Thats funny Terri as I technically have 2 reds, one is my oh so broody silkie/cochin/ss and the other is one of the chicks I've now been calling Red also. I figured 3 would be way to many with the same name. On the scaly leg, while looking over the pics after Deli asked leg color(To me it's whitish/pink) I noticed it also and contemplated if it was the pic or it was back
again. It was dark by the time I seen so I'll check them tomorrow. They have been treated before but I was wondering if being on wet ground would cause them to look that way or if I need to treat them once again? It's those 2 in that pen only ever, although I treated all the coops. The rain last week sure didn't help anything here as the run their in actually has 2 coops, lo and behold they end up in the wet one. I was going to close the outside coop off but I planned on integrating all the chickens into those coops for winter. It's hard to describe but there run is split with 2 coops to one half and 1 coop to the other half. Since I don't plan on breeding thru the winter, I won't have to keep them all separated in the 10
coops I have over winter as heating them all will make my light bill sky rocket. I already have heat going to 2 coops right now with the younger chickies in. I wish if it were gonna snow it would just stay here instead of this warm cold crap as it plays havoc on the 2 coop/runs attached to my barn. The others never have a problem as there in a better location. Next year I plan to just add a new roof lean/to so the barn water stops running into their coop and run.
I also had to move the chicks born the end of Aug to my pullet/bantam coop as the heater went out of my brooder and I lost 4 chicks the night before last. I've said before I have 4 yet in the house that I swore I wasn't going to do. "Blue" the blrw pullet(same name as my blrw roo, haven't found a better name yet. I'm afraid to name her in case she turns out to be a cockerel because my luck is so great, hah) is growing so fast I think I'm going to have to bring in a bigger cage before long and keep her as my pet bird thru winter.
Pyrrha means "red hair" in greek, maybe that could be his name. I'm not sure how many that sounds though, besides it's a Greek Goddess and they say ones with red hair have bad character. I'm thinking
Hephaestus as he's the God of Fire and fires red/ish. I may keep with this and name all my new chicks after Greek God/Godesses as a theme. I'm not sure if you knew but I homeschool my boys 13/14.
Once again I lose self-control and start making Frenchie size posts. I swear I could ramble nonsense all day long if I wouldn't feel bad for clogging up the thread. Can you tell I don't have much for friends or a life?!
Also forgot to mention as it's been a while since I whined about my health. I had my first appt at Mayo Monday switching from Marshfield Clinic. No guff off the bat and they give me all my meds I told them I thought worked well for me, she even give me way more than I asked for in pain meds. Set me up with a Rheumatologist(sp), Ob/Gyn(ovarian, uteran, ureter cysts), Pulmanologist, Pediatrist, Neurologist. So I am crossing my fingers that the new specialists will do more than the old ones didn't do. They've known about the cysts since Feb this year never scheduled me for a follow up as I wanted a hysterectomy and they tried to talk me out of it. They knew I had Lupus since Feb of 2011 when I had my first stroke and never set me up with a Rheumatologist(I didn't even know I needed one until they told me) My old Neurologist had done nothing but pescribe me Gabapentin for nearly 2 years for my Optic Papillitis, and I had a anurism burst in my eye a week and half ago which was very painful, I went into urgent care last week and they told me they had no openings, gah. Went to eye doc and they had no openings, come home frustrated and give up. It's getting better now but was very painful for over a week and my vision was very blurry, same eye I have Papillitis in. If this doesn't work out at least I know I tried as everyone I talk to about Marshfield has told me to go to Mayo.
Oh and I've been wanting to see if anyone on here has any knowledge of Creatinine? Boy my sons just has some blood work done and my younger sons levels were higher than normal(his wbc and rbc have been off the last 2 times he's had blood work done also)and older sons was lower. The nurse called and said they both needed iron pills as their Iron was too low due to the Creatinine levels but when I checked online they were opposite. After reading about it, high levels means kidney failing and I really worry about Diabetes as it runs high in my family at adult and adolescence. I am currently pre-diabetic. Their were other things that were way off of normal that concerns me. I had originally planned on keeping them with their current doc but and considering switching them to Mayo also due to a few issues I have had. Older son also has very high cholesterol as do I. I take Lipitor but it's not really helping after nearly a year.
Ok I'm going to stop now or none of you will get to sleep reading this nonsense, or it will just put you to sleep from boredom.
