JJ you might want to rethink that galvanized boiler ,,,,check your brine ingredients,,,just sayin'

plastic tote would make a good substitute
I lined it with a heavy garbage bag as to not have the bird or the brine touching the boiler. Good looking out though, thanks

Good point Dan...
From the time we got back, Sunday, we have been on a cleaning rampage. We have sorted through closets, drawers, boxes, and under beds and have donated 7 bags of clothes to Goodwill and thrown out 5 boxes full of papers, worn out clothes, and broken toys. I have sorted through each kids room and gotten rid of clothes that are too small, for the summer, or aren't worn. I washed all of their dirty clothes and supervised them as they put the clothes away, rearranged their craft tables, and cleaned their rooms (because we all know it wouldn't have gotten done otherwise). The girls made 6 dozen oatmeal choc. chip cookies and 2 loaves of cranberry-orange bread, my dad & I made rutabaga and butternut squash, DH is putting turkey #1 in the smoker as we speak, and I'm about to make Cranberry-jalapeno salsa.
Recipe for that Cranberry-jalapeno salsa please???? Smoked turkey---YUM! I bought DH a smoker...never has used it yet!

OK off to make cranberry sauce!
Have a great night! TerriO

Well I'm finally home with the baby and am quite exhausted. Haven't even had time to check on the chickens other than the 4 in the house. Tomorrow I'll give a walk thru to see how the kids did while I was gone. Baby is doing the best it can given the situation as is mom. Now to get her schedule back on track, she already has her days and nights switched as I haven't had any sleep in days.

Hope everyone has a gr8 Thanksgiving! We are doing a turkey and ham, but was just informed not many are coming so like Jim will have loads of leftovers to eat off for some time.

Sorry about your birds Delisha.

HAH Big Zio....that will never happen!!!! Don't want to see/hear about it at all. And takes me awhile after hunting season is over before I can eat venizun again :-( Wish my mind/tummy would toughen up a lil with this!

Pumpkin, Pecan pies done and Dorfers cheesecake in the oven now!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL!

Update..

I lost most of the young birds except the new chick with moms and two of my really old birds. I have them all on detox and pro gel and the adults that could not walk..are up and walking today. The treatment is for three weeks than I need to take a bird in to see how much damage was done to the kidneys, liver and gizzard ..I have not contacted the feed company yet........thanks TO for letting me know.

20 minutes a pound is for the temp at 350*. One year I screwed up & did 325*; the bird was not done.

ETA: I posted Jim's dogs pic for him. I believe Dora is the one in front and the puppy is the one in the back. Is that right, Jim?
Dora on the left, Puppy on the right with his neck bent..

thanks for posting that pic CC,, I know i have it, but I could not find the folder .. I just have to organize my pics.. and I will, as soon as I learn how..

Had company tonight,, really had a fun time.. I hope the parakeets make it home in good shape..

It was snowing when they left, so I hope the roads aren't too bad..
fl.gif

I sent a bottle of ho-made blackberry wine along home with them,, now I can share a toast with them each evening..

I brined the turkey last year.. DD#1 thought it was too salty,, I think it was all in her head.. I am pretty sensitive to salt and I couldn't taste it.. I think if I hadn't told her it was brined, she never would have noticed..

I had to put the turkey and chicken outside for the night.. It was thawing too fast..

I did not bake any dinner rolls today.. I figure I can do it tomorrow while Annie is baking her pies.. I THINK she is making pies, anyhow.. If I carry on and cry, she will..

I was going to comment about salt in a copper boiler, but I see it is all taken care of.. turns out to be galvanized anyhow..

only 11 PM ; seems so late..

.........
