Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

Spirit passed sometime between 6 and 10 am. She will be missed. I had her and raised since before she had her eyes open. Peace to my "Pretty Girl".
When the vet drained her this lat time she also did an ultra sound and said it looked like she had tumors pushing and blocking fluids. The fluid was all from "waste" down. They must have been fairly fast growing, a month ago she seemed fine. Then the fluid rabid started building. Took her in and they drained some and put her on some meds. When I took her fri. (a week and a1/2 after her meds.) they drained out a liter of fluid. She hardly ate or drank since before I took her in the first time. I think she knew it couldn't be fixed and it was time. The whole while she was sick she was either on or next to my bed. I'm so glad she went at home.

Good neighbor you got BigZ!

Angie... Hope you find a good solution for heat.

Jelin.... Sorry about your hen

I think I'm going to try to hit the hay early myself (before 3 at least) couple of things to do then,,,, Night All!

Hi all, been trying to keep up a long time now, i end up skipping pages and all that but been away and busy.
Spent almost two weeks in Arkansas. Dad was scheduled for heart surgery on Oct.28,went great but never recovered and failed progressively suo i few down the30th. He died on the Nov2. Stayed to help mom for a bit but had to come home my family.
Here was supposed to visit during hunting season to help with processing and to hunt with me. Sad timefor us but blessed my hunt anyway and i got a buck that's getting hung on my wall.

Lost a hen (BigMama ~ my one Aussie that survived from my first batch this spring)night before last. Must've fallen off the roost, curled up in a corner to sleep and froze to death. Of course out had to be my favorite. :( I've got a light on a timer (5a-2p) and am now debating on whether i should keep it on all night too.
One of my roosters had ice on his wattles this morning. Yikes! I put Vaseline on, HTH~ put some onboththeir combs and wattles.

Nice Buck Amyb, nothing better than a successful hunt. Sorry to hear about your Dad.

Tough to hear about spirit Cind. Dang losses everywhere it seems. Life is so fragile.

Nothing new here. The cold weather is old already. Time to haul water again.

Glad you stopped by bigfam. You're just as sweet as ever.

Later...bigz

Amy B sorry about your dad and all, Just lost my Dad this fall also. Nice buck there I have been doing a whole lot of thinking about getting into hunting. We have no land and my hubby does not like to use public land says it is just too darned dangerous. Maybe we will look into purchasing a 40 acre lot not too far from Madison. Just that the closer to Madison we look the more expensive it is. I just don't like the thought of a 3-4 hour drive for a weekend trip. Call me spoiled I guess... Now that the kids are leaving the nest

have to find a hobby like this for hubby and I to do together. I love being in the woods long as you are dressed for it.

Cind... So sorry about Spirit too, thankful it was at home and any more drawn out for both your sakes...

Big Family: Holy crap you scared me popping in like that, it has been months and months, good to see you still have your sense of humor. Perhaps you can steal sometime and drive to "Cluck" this weekend.

We have one of those remote temperature gauges in the coop, I love it. Even though it was zero outside the 9 girls are keeping it at 10 inside, nice to know it warms up too during the day and I can also tell how hot it is in there during the summer. Last year the RIR combs did turn blackish on the edges but by the time I decided to get rid of them this summer their combs had all recovered no one lost anything. This year all my birds have smaller combs so I don't expect any issues. There is a reason they call em "tough" birds....

Good day all, I gotta go back to work

good afternoon,, I sold 20 guinea today.. that should help the feed bill somewhat..
I did a quick count and there are still in excess of 40 left..
I got rid of all of the older ones.. so now all I have are last summer's hatch .. most of the ones that went today were roosters.. the people are going to butcher them so that worked out well for me..

Arny, tough break, losing your dad..

You have to set your timer so that you have at least 14 hours of light per day if you are trying to get eggs.. 5AM to 2PM leaves you just a bit short, or at least cutting it pretty close.. It gets light at 4A in the summer time.. can you set the timer to go on in the afternoon as well ?
Is that your buck lying to the right of you in the picture ?? who shot the big one ??

BigFam,, nice to see you back.. How's it going with DS ? I hope things are getting into a mild routine..
