Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I hope everyone survived their family gatherings!

We had a great time at my best friends parents house last night. Dinner was ham and crown pork roast, sweet & mashed potatoes, corn & broccoli, stuffing, a kale & brussel sprout salad as well as a regular salad, rolls, jello, and plenty of desserts. Everyone opened up their presents and a good time was had by all.

DH had to go to work today, so its just G.Pa and me at home today.

Haven't been out yet to check the chickens, but I'd better get off of here and get my day started!

Hi all! Hope you had a very merry christmas. Ours was lovely! We actually stayed home. The kiddos were extactic to beable to stay and play with all of their new stuff. It was a very relaxing and wonderful day.
Chickens are still very cold. And not very willing to come out of the coop. Scott has trails all over the yard for them and Brownie can't believe that little guy! He comes out in the worst weather. And really enjoys it :)

Peace and good cheer to All !....hope everyone had a best of the best for memories.... we went to jennies for Christmas...she loves having it her house...no problem...me and suzie made the food and delivered it to her house. She is so exited to have the celebration at her house.

Needed to go and do chores first though....gulldarnit, I have a hen in trouble sitting on a bale of straw looking sad....into the house with her I go. Suzie, please get the heat lamp and get her some heat fast!
Frozen closed beak, frozen closed eyes, labored breathing....never woulda thought the northern fowl mites coulda struck this hard without a clue to me this fast.

I'm a fan of 5% sevin dust.... I dusted her and she looked like she was shook with a pepper shaker as the vermin fell off after dusting... I moved her to the heated basement in her own pen with a heat lamp... she is looking good tonight (4 year old buckeye hen) it was another while to dust every bird in that coop before heading to jennie's...I felt so much better knowing the coop was good to go for now.

Just a heads up... this coop has a few black cap chickadees that can fly in and out...they are the culprit for sure...this winter is a real one for sure.... keep a close eye for sure.

Digging through the freezer for something I found some whole strawberries...they were doomed for daiquiris...just sayin!

Thanks for the heads up Bigz. I have some dark Brahma hens in a breeder coop/pen and one of them has not looked right for a week or so...pale, not eating much, staying by herself. I'm gonna check for mites tomorrow...the Juncos, Jays and Chickadees hang out in that pen all the time.
Glad your hen is feeling better!
