Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all :-)
Yes terri, I am back. And all is well.
Not much new here. Still cold.
Jim, cute pic. Dora looks tired lol sorry about the blazer. Sucks for sure.
Sclark, glad the baby is well. The blrw look nice. Sorry about you daughter.

aww Jim,,,,Dora look happy..and tired

Glad you are home cuties

TO..it sure sucks this winter..I do not know what I would do if i had so much water issues. I do haul out water in winter, but I only need three trips. I use two waters for each coop and I no longer have ducks. A new hose should help. I get frozen eggs and I go out three times a day..the first time is 6 am...I just don't seem too find them all. They have all kinds of hiding places.

Thanks everyone, I hope to get you some much better photos soon. She's getting better by the day, things have been going much smoother since my daughter left as I don't have to fight her to keep Anellia on a schedule which is what she needed. I have her w/d to a minimum and she's eating roughly 4-6 oz every 4-6 hours give or take a few episodes which makes life much easier. I'm just glad she's her and not in a foster home. The sucky part right now is I have to drive to Chippewa Falls which is an hour drive twice a week for them to have visitation and found out that Tuesday at the visitation that he failed the drug test and they still allowed him when the judge specifically ordered that if either fail they lose their visitation for the day. I will be bringing that up tomorrow morning at the visit or I will be writing a letter to the judge. They both failed theirs last week and they denied them. At least my daughter passed one finally. The judge was pretty tough which he should be it's just now getting the soc worker to enforce his order!

Went out and cut wood today, that wind was deadly. Ended up jamming a 16in ash tree on my saw as a wind gust whipped right as I was making my last cut. Ran to the house and got a ratchet and took the bar off the saw as to not ruin the new one(that would be really bad luck) and grabbed the wedge and sledge hammer. Got saw off and went to town beating the wedge and the tree finally dropped where it was suppose to go in the first place. It was a bit greener than I wanted but I was completely out of wood and wanted enough to last until the great warm up on Friday when me and the boys could get more cut. I ended up with the ash, oak, maple, some dry birch and poplar to get us thru.

hello everyone.

Winter....well I put out the heat lamps again and nearly froze my hands off in the process. We had better have a long growing season this year and an abundant one at that to make this winter worth all of the fuss we've had to endure.

Getting 4 eggs a day out of 6, we are getting a few cracking when I take them out of the coop into the cold air, but they are still good to use.

Clark-you are doing a good thing for that baby!

bl4-share please

Had a meeting with the head contractors for our remodel project at Carthage. I walked them through the labs and described what needed to remain powered and undisturbed and what could go. They are tearing the entire East wall of the building off in late March (O joy) and the construction should be complete in 2-3 years (double joy). I am excited for the new building, but dreading the complaints!

Keep all the critters warm and yourselves too! Night all.

Tired of winter here also, as are my birds and the DH too. Sooooo tired of it...............

Yes, Dora does look tired, but what mom wouldn't be.

Haven't had any frozen eggs here since the last polar plunge so the heat lamp must be doing its job, thankfully. It runs 24/7 in the area where the nest boxes are all winter long. So far we've only had 4 or 5 cracked eggs, but that'll probably change now that I opened my big mouth............ The daily egg count has increased slowly from 2-3 to 6-7 so the days must be getting longer, right? Please say yes? Now if only they would get warmer.

Great job on the grand baby, sc. She is a cutie, and worth fighting for. Good luck to you.

Hmmm, smileys are MIA. Guess I had better quit before the post goes poof. Sweet dreams, all!

That pie did not last 24 hours...... I found some meyer lemons while out shopping the other day and thought they would be perfect, and they were.

Kittens had their booster shots today, they are both growing nicely since they kicked the worms and the ear mites are almost vanquished. Thank goodness! I am really tired of cleaning their ears! They are both bundles of energy now, chasing everything they can. Tonight Jinx thought she would take a stab at Grover's tail...... yeah, he was not too happy about that. He is pretty tolerant of the two as long as they only sniff him. No playing yet. Spice is a whole different story, she hisses every time she sees a kitten. Today, I did manage to get both kittens up on the bed with her. She had a fit for a little bit, but once she realized they wanted nothing to do with her she calmed down. A step in the right direction....

Sclark, be careful burning that freshly cut wood. I would hate for you to add chimney fire to everything else you have going on..... kudos to you for taking on the baby but I hope your DD has taken steps to prevent another one from making an appearance.

CS, how exciting for the remodel!!!!

Kids have off on Friday.... I think we should do something fun but can't figure out what quite yet.....

Everyone stay warm, and stay safe!

Hi All!

Jim.... Hope you find a nice replacement for the Blazer, looks like she's been a good worker. The pic. of Dora and the pups is real nice!

TO.... I probably have enough noodles for the next year! Can't feed them too much or too often but it does help stretch out the feed.

deni.... I think we all have some sort of "chicken graveyard", although I have burned a few that had been sick.

Sclark.... So glad Anellia is improving. Hope you have some help with her. Good work on the wood!

Well, nothing new here. Night All!

Hello Wisconsinites!!! I've moved south, but I still bleed green and gold! I have a cold weather question for you guys. I have some pullets who are starting to lay. It seems they all pass a rubber egg before laying nice hard shelled eggs. I found this below the roost today. It is frozen, and seems to have a rubber shell. My question is: do rubber shelled white eggs turn yellow when frozen? If not, I have an EE that has started laying. Super exciting!!

don't get too excited yet,, that is only the membrane, not the shell.. and I don't think yellow is a color you will be getting from the EE ..

If you continue getting rubber eggs, supplement some oyster shells , free choice, besides their layer rations..

......jiminwiscwhereitisbelowzeroagain/yet...................

Another chilly morning! I am glad my DH feeds/waters the chickens through the winter. I hate going out in this!
I bought an incubator, should be here Monday. It is obviously too cold to have eggs shipped. Does it have to be above freezing the whole time they are in transit?
Really wish someone local sold Swedish Flower eggs or chicks....
