Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Been a long time since I've posted, my life has been consumed by my grand daughter. Daughter took off a little over 2 weeks ago and went back to the boyfriend. I forgot just how much work babies were as my youngest is nearly 14.

Here's a photo of her when she was a month and half, she is now 2 months old and growing so fast.

I have much better photos, just haven't had time to download them off my card and this was the latest I had on my phone.

I have lost alot of chickens due to the weather(mostly the very young ones, I shipped them outside too soon and a few really old ones) and not being well enough prepared. The 4 are finally out of the house and in with my BLRW coop and doing well. All coops now have heat which should of been done long before the bad cold set in but I just couldn't get to it with everything going on.

Chicks raised in the house, Athena(blrw) sure was too big to be in the house, I hope her color darkens up. Her lacing seems to be consistent but far from quality I'm sure.

The Boys

The Girls

Went in last Tuesday and had injections into my sacrailic joints, the only relief I had is while the numbing shot was active about 6 hours and nothing since. They said if it was going to work I should know by day 7 which is today but nothing. Right back to the same pain I had before the shot. I'm not sure if they'll try another time again or not. They did say that they don't fuse the joints and my right has pulled apart from walking all these years with my right leg being 1 1/2 inches shorter and noone finding it or even checking until about 10 months ago. Something is obviously messed up with my record transfer from Marshfield Clinic to the Mayo clinic as none of my scans show the damage that I was shown when they were done prior. I am requesting they do new scans as I know the damage but last week he showed me a cat scan with perfect vertebra and disks and I know they are not mine. Also when I went to Rochester my mri's didn't show my stroke so they didn't believe I even had one. Someone screwed up somewhere.

Finally got the wood stove hooked up around Xmas so I've been spending alot of time out in the woods with the boys cutting wood. Sure is alot of work but it's been heating the addition and cutting back on the gas for the house. At $2.22 a gallon it's worth the extra work for sure, besides the electric is saving not running 4 extra heaters. My Jonsered saw blew a rod bearing 4 cuts into a tree after I just spent $82 on a new bar and chain. Traded my Husky(it was a 42, never meant for cutting firewood) in on a Jonsered 655 and paid $140 so I'm back cutting mad. Thankful for my boys, I just have to cut it up and they do all the rest. I picked up a decent sled for them to haul it in out of the woods.

Congrats on the pups Jim, good luck with the interviews babylady, Judy hope your rooster picked up, I know I'm forgetting more. Someone got kittens hope they are doing well. Daughters trying to talk me into getting one for Anellia but I'm not ready for another cat at this time after losing Seymour.

Hi All!

Wow... SClark.... sounds like you have a real full plate! Can't imagine taking on a grand baby full time. Kudos for you!

Jim... sounds like you got a very full house now!

Went to the doctor yesterday (Mon.) for a checkup and to see if I could get things going on disability. I hate going that route but it may be the only way I can afford insurance. Sucks! Anyway, my doctor that I was going to for the last few years had left and I had to start anew with a different one. That's going to set me back in both time and money! Oh, and I'm no longer 5' tall.... I'm 4' 11"

Well, got to get the chicken's breakfast finished (eggs, oatmeal, noodles and FF) so it's ready when DH gets up.
Night All!

Nice looking birds..
you have a plate full..your g baby is adorable

good morning, Delisha, pictures right now would not be too exciting.. they just look like so many white sausages,,,with very short apendengies .. OK, I will take a picture anyway ..

good news, and sort of a miracle. all (3) of the gray ones turned white within a few hours >>???
I told Annie that all of the licking that Dora did, she just licked the gray away .. LOL

One of the puppies died.. so now there are 8 .. it happens sometimes..

I have been losing guineas and chickens on almost a regular basis .. seems that Puppy figures that anybody that strays away from the coop is fair game.. I think the shocking collar will change his mind about that .. he was doing so well last fall.. I guess he just needs a refresher course..

dr appt did not go as well as I had hoped..

the Blazer still has a blown transmission,, $1200.oo to put in a different one,, but then, will the next one be a good one or just another one waiting to blow up ?? Looking for a different car.. need not be fancy, just has to be big enough to haul 10 or 12 bags of feed.. I really do not want a pick em up truck.. I like the Blazer because I can just leave the feed in it where it stays dry and away from the red squirrels ..
however, I did find holes is a couple of bags this time.. the squirrels must have crawled up through the rust holes to get inside..??

If it weren't so cold, I would do some squirrel hunting ..

neither of the ladies who seemed interested in the baby parakeets have responded to my emails.. WTH ?? do they think they are the only ones who want them ?? One of the women lost out on the last batch because she snoozed ..

Sandy don't be so hard on yourself, while ACV does help with gut health (in some opinions) it does little if anything to add what electrolytes and a vitamin pack will. That said, I am not familiar with the product you mentioned. I ferment grains (lactose) and occasionally add ACV to the water but I would not be without the additives I use during times of stress as I previously mentioned in my posts.
I have used 3-4 different kinds all have been powders that you add to the water,,,and I don't use at the same time as the ACV simply because most of the prepacked all contain an acidifier

Hey Dan,
Thanks also good info. I did quit beating myself up and added the bottle to my first aid kit knowing that sometimes I can't do it all naturally even though that is my first response. Question, I understand not using the ACV in the water if adding the powder, what about the FF since I used ACV as my fermentation starter? My thought is that there isn't enough of the ACV in the feed to be an issue

Snowy Afternoon All...are we ready for more Winter?

I was happy to see the new sandhillpreservation catalog in the mail yesterday. I'll have my order in the mail by the end of the week. At least we can think and dream of nicer weather.

Dumped some compost in the garden today...the snow is past my knees.....poor wildlife are having a tough go this Winter for sure. My redneck suet feeder is nothing but bones with all the feeding going on.

Good Luck with the granddaughter sclark...it would be tough love here...I raised my children and that was enough for me....the grandkids visit and that's long enough stay for me. I would go crazy with a crying baby and diapers to change.

Peace...bigz

Hi all--just warming up and then heading to F&F to pick up 150' of heavy duty hose. Thanks Goodness they have it in the back. It better be the HD good stuff too...I am so tired of hauling hose already this winter! The outside FF pump seems to have given up so I have to hook up to the hourse well in the vasement. That is an extra 25' of hose and two doors to manipulate. Then I still have to pull the hose back down into the pump pit for it to not freeze. I tried putting it on a reel and into the basement...yeah, It froze! Too close to the floor I guess. (I really needed that couple of days in Florida...) So yesterday the vinyl hose had a bad kink and I guess the water stayed up too high in the pit. It was frozen at the kink so I had to cut it. Then it was too short to get all the way to the big water tanks--I ended up carrying buckets again! I swear I am going to dig up the barn FF hydrant this summer by myself and fix it! Water is no fun in this weather for sure!

OK, here is another thing that is not fun! Here is my egg bucket:

Twenty two eggs and FOUR were not cracked! If I want to have eggs it seems that I need to go out early, mid day and at night! I have moved doing the water to noon time and was collecting eggs then too...gotta stop! The chickens and the dogs enjoyed them at least!

Clark--your Gbaby is really cute! I love her round head! I assume she is doing better now a days? (I sure wish you were too!) To bad about your daughter...
Still feeding those darn noodles hey Cind? That is great you can ease the feed bill that way.
I hope you got your job BL4!
Cuties...are you back from MI? I hope the relatives are better.
Gotta head out to pick up that hose now...have a good night. We are making tie blankets with our 4H club tonight...will donate to the hospital or somewhere. TerriO

where's bigfam? we have a tranny problem!

Sandie,,,your thinking is correct on the FF

tired of this winter,,,,really tired of it

birds are doing well,,,steady egg production,,,been averaging right at 30 eggs/day for months now,,,,pays the feed costs and customers are happy

Tired of winter here too! Hi everyone! Just poppin' in for a bit- hope all is well with everyone. Sick of cracked eggs and cold weather, but only one casualty this winter. Oh, well... I was surprised she lasted last winter being a bantam. Now she's in my freezer until spring because my son has to bury her in the chicken grave yard. Oh, boy...
