Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm trying to play catch up after spending some time in Chicago with my daughter. Hope you all had a good week. I got back on Wed and just missed the mess on HWY 10 in Waupaca. The aftermath was looking pretty bad! Cars flipped over and everything - it was crazy!

The light is back on in the coop. The girls are complaining but they're giving me a good number of eggs in spite of the bitter cold. All that poo is never going to thaw out!

Hi all...everything is frozen here and I dont have ANY water at all. Evidently the pipe coming into the house has frozen...sigh...I hope it is clear by the time I am done with this post so I can get water out to the stock before heading to work. If it was at all feasible I would call in. I hae to caryy buckets too as F&F only had cheap hoses and I wasnt going to waste my $$$ on them again! Madison has 22 farm duty ones in stock so I am heading there after work tonight. Yeah--no more buckets! Now if I could just get the barn well working again...

Misty--many times new birds will do the rubber egg thing as their systems are sorting out the "proper" way to make an egg! Amazing that you even found it; usually the other birds scarf them up as soon as they are laid!

OK--going to check the well...why is is you are always thirsty when there is no water?

YOW! So sorry about your water, TO! I hope you get it back soon without any major damage!!

All of the chicks are out..the last one looks like it has neck issues. It looks like it is still in the egg all curled over..Hopefully by tomorrow it will look better or the poor little fella goes to chick heaven..I gave them all shots for immunization..I did not kill any of them..we will see how they are doing tomorrow..

This weather sucks..I sure hope Jim's prediction about February is a big fat lie!!!

FFF to All... yep, still Winter here too! Good news at the feed mill today, the quality layer I buy dropped fifty cents a bag....$8.50 per 50lb bag...now that's worth a dance...

I'm glad I don't heat with natural gas...sounds like the price gouging is the norm there. I always hated buying fuel oil back years ago...like you can argue the price. Folks pay it, so they charge it.

Be prepared for the worst, and hope the best prevails. Then you are a winner.

Stay Warm... bigz

Hi all ~ Nice to see you.   BBP I have moved into Eau Claire and I have no chickens at all. All of my chickens went to a sanctuary. It has been one hell of a year.  ha

My dog Tiger died 11 months ago and she was my best pal for 13 years. But I am starting  a new part of my life now, hopefully wiser for all I been through. I miss coming here, but for a long time it was just too painful to come back. Still miss those feathered friends. Wow I really get attached to my animals . :'(

I will check in more often and t is nice you remembered me. :)  thanks

I still have a bantam black cochin hen that I got from you. And I think SClark has the silkie mix rooster. I've been wondering a lot what happened to you. I knew you were having issues with the place you were living. So sorry about your dog. :hugs

Hi All!

tiki.... It does sound like you had a rough year. Hope thing work out for the better for you.

Big Z..... Wow! what a feed price! I'm paying about $12.50.

Nothing to say yet.... Night All!

Wish I could sleep...grrr. Moved the two littlest birds back to the garage yesterday with the heat lamp. Besides my silkies, think that bantams are not for me with this wide open yard. Although the bantam rocks seem to be ok for the most part.

Heading to Chicago for a nephews birthday party. Should be an adventure as this side of the family is a soap opera.
Stay warm everyone.

Good morning...up early today; couldnt stand the dogs barking and DH snoring! So they are all fed and coffee is on--time to sit and veg for a bit. I have a few recipes to post and I actually FOUND the tax bill which is due in a few days. Gotta remember to get that check in the mail before I go on my scrapping weekend!

Not too much going on here this AM! All must be under the warm blankets dreaming about spring---which WILL arrive on March first right?

Great deal on the feed Brent! I am paying right around $12 like Cind. I was actually surprised when I was at F&F last week that they lowered their corn prices to match the market a bit closer! Usually once something goes up it stays up for sure.

Glad you had a nice trip Irish! I went to visit my daughter this week too(but only to Madison) We exchanged birthday presents. All horse stuff! She got me a helmet and said I HAD to wear it now that I had a comfy one! I guess she does worry...sure would have saved my head a few times! I took her to dinner at Harvest on the square--it is Madison Restaurant Week and you got a 3 course meal for $25. We both had the mussels...they were not done very well. She had had them at another place on Monday and said they were fantastic. Jury is out as to whether I ever try them again.

Sounds like the coffee is getting done...YEAH! Have a great day everyone! TerriO

Mussels are delicious when they are clean and fresh..they suck if they are not..sorry your experience was bad..you need to try them again.

Sorry about your dog tiki...

I need to get up to clintonville and get some of that feed..

Organic chick feed here went up to $28 for a 50 lb bag..made me sick.

Oh my goodness! That is expensive.
Bigz, next time we visit the fam, I better stock up on feed from your mill.
My older sis is comng for a visit today! And my younger sis is being induced as we speak! Exciting day here! We are trying to enjoy the relaxing coffee before it all breaks loose! Lol
Jim, you will soon have your hands full for sure!
Miss, sorry about not hearing back :-( hopefully something turns up.
Have a good day! Keep warm :-)
