I just got up, having a cuppa . sitting in my girlie PJ's.. can't stay long, people are supposed to be here soon to look at the feather plucker..

Puppies are growing like weeds.. their eyes should be opening soon.. then they will start to roam shortly after that.. then we will have our hands full. too cold to kick them outside ..

I just took pictures of the 3 newest cockatiel babies ..
the quality is not the best,, I had to snap as soon as Annie set them down or else they would take off running..

Riley and I are at the store today. I was hoping to get a lot of book work done but the little muffin man wants to run, play and put things in his mouth. Puppies and throw rugs sure don't mix well! He's a good little greeter, gotta give him that. If anyone needs a little puppy love drop in and see us - we have lots to spare!

Anyone looking for a little vintage sled rigged up with a box for ice fishing - tip-ups, etc. included? I just got one and will put it up for sale in the store today.

Awwww Jim!!! SO cute! I miss cockatiels so much! (I had 150 at one time color breeding when I lived in Cali and had a business "Flights of Fancy") Do you had feed them? or momma raised? With having house cats now, I can't have a pet bird....someday!

Angie, why not? I have birds and cats. They get along just fine, you just keep an eye on everybody.

we do not have cats.. I don't have the desire or time to watch them with all the baby birds we raise.
I think Annie has only 2 or 3 pairs of breeders.. to me, that is too many..

Nobody here has the ambition to hand feed these birds.. the parents do such a good job..

I sold the feather plucker at noon.. I like it when people show up when they say they will..

going to a birthday party tonight.. nothing fancy,, will end up playing cards, I'm sure..

made it to +1 F today.. starting to cool off already.. really getting tired of this cold weather. I can handle the snow and plus 15 F and above..

I fixed the waterer with lucite again.. not near as good as JB Weld .. Annie is in town and is picking up some JB Weld for me,, and some oil,, and a small electric heater.. 14% off sale at Menards for anything you can fit into the big shopping bag..

I am dressed for outside, and am overheating.. going to peal off a layer or two..

Hmmmm..... I have had birds and cats off and on together many times in my lifetime and have never had an incident with the cats killing the birds. If your birds are out in the open, well of course they are easy prey. The only time I have to make certain my cats are contained would be when we allow our birds to fly around the room. No need to tempt fate.

Made the banana cream pie today, I added a layer of chocolate in the middle. Since it is made with a lot of eggs and bananas, it is healthy right?

My former night manager is up at the Ice Caves of Lake Superior this weekend. They look so amazing! I would love to make a road trip up there to see them firsthand and to fill up a memory card with pictures.

Probably have to bring the ducks back over tomorrow..... I am not liking the forecast.

Just thought I'm gonna introduce myself, since I've only been a member for not quite a year, and have mostly been swarming around in the Pekin Duck Forum, as I have duckies (my lovelies, as to my dogs the babies!).

I live in the Northwestern corner of Wisconsin, wedged between Hayward and Ladysmith (if that is at all familiar to any of you) and we (meaning my boyfriend and me) have somewhat of a hobby farm started about 2 years ago.

First, he got pheasants. Reeves and Red Golden, then added some Alaskan snow, this year some regular Ringneck and Lady Amherst. When he came along with wanting chickens too (to add to the almost 70+ birds we already had!) I told him flatout that I would get some ducks, since I ALWAYS wanted some of those.

Sooo, at the swap meet we got altogether 13 chickens, 5 turned out to be roosters that we sold, and 2 got killed, leaving us with 5 now (no clue bout their breed, it's just not my thing). A week later I went out and got me some duck eggs to incubate, having 2 hatch. Both turned out to be Rouen males (although I first thought they're females. lol) and I went out to get me a couple of Pekins too. One Rouen male was sickly and needed extra care and being separated while the others tried picking on him. So I got him a Khaki Campbell as companion. Turns out we had 3 guys (the Rouens and one Pekin) so I was on the search for more females, as that ration is not a good one.

In October I finally found them on Craigslist, in pretty bad conditions, extremely skiddish, filthy, skinny and malnourished. I initially only wanted to add 2 more females, but they had to give up all of their ducks and were afraid that someone would "delete and eat" their one deformed Pekin (which I named Sheila), so I took her home too as I do have a very soft heart for all animals abused (see to my 4 babies lol).

Since having my lovelies my boyfriend fell in love with their funny characters and loves them almost more than I do now! Needless to say, we have LOTS of birds and some dogs, yet are all living happily together.

So NOOOW, after this somewhat lengthy introduction (sorry!), I was just wondering if anyone around knows of a vet in the area that would test pheasants, ducks and chickens? And maybe where I could get some Golden Cascade Ducks from, as I am not able and wanting to buy them from a hatchery that has a minimum of 10... I got plenty already, without adding 10 more, and with my luck, probably ending up with more males AGAIN! lol. Any and all info would be appreciated...!

Yea, these wind chill temps are NO fun! And the ducks and chicken won't even come out from underneath the topper, where we mounted 2 heat lamps. lol. And I'm sure getting sick and tired of seeing all this white stuff. Nice for Christmas and maybe New Years, but after that it is only a hassle to deal with when taking care of all the animals!

Hello Wildsam..welcome to the group..I no longer have ducks ..many people on here have ducks and I am sure someone can hook you up. I live way south of you in Racine County..we have a camp out weekend every summer you should come camp with us..It is in Clintonville.
TerriO will put together a place for us to chat about that soon and to make plans..about who is bring what..exchanges..all kind of fun things..

I am already thinking of things to build and prizes to donate..
