good morning,
just a quick note to pass along some info for Mel
I credit you for fortitude in wanting to make the trek to see the ice caves and take pictures of them,,,rare beauty for sure
as to vehicle for the trip,,,,dependable is the key I think the roads themselves are kept clear and drivable with the exception of any winter storms that involve "lake affect" that along with these nasty low temps this winter seems to be made of
There are a few stretches of US2 that are pretty desolate but are kept clean and safe to travel, keep in mind there are most likely many areas with no cell towers,,,,
not something I plan to do at this late in life but wish I would have since it is so close and they are pretty amazing!
watch the weather for a window and good luck,,,,,what else to do or see? well the bubble heads are out in force,,,cross county skiers are pretty happy with the trail conditions and there is lots of "local color" in the bars this time of year
ETA: depending on dates and weather you might consider going even farther north (if you have completely lost your mind) and check out the winter carnival at Michigan Tech in Houghton,,,excellent snow statues (these I have seen a few times)
