Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Out on 10 to get the ducks..... it's a mess out here. Blowing snow making travel fun...

Unk, my former night foreman was just up there yesterday. Since he is 55+ and out of shape and managed to parade around the ice for over 4 hours, I am thinking I'll be able to manage.

Split pea soup waiting for us at home. Yum!

just came in from outside,, windy for sure,, but it didn't feel too cold.. must be getting my winter blood..

I went to F&F and got some JB Weld.. did a fix on one of the water trays.. as suspected, that Llucite sh!t didn't hold..

yesterday a dummie forgot to take the cap off the spout on the waterer.. so the chickens got to look at a full jug all night, but could not get a drink..
they drank the whole 5 gallons in less than a half hour.. then I changed jugs and this time I opened the spout ..

I have 2 guineas up in the pine tree.. they won't come down and go into either coop.. Oh well...

only 7 eggs today.. there were 10 yesterday..

.........thatsaboutirfornow..........

The snow keeps coming..but at least the wind was not too bad today..I need to butcher out some of these cockerels this coming week. They are 11 weeks old and large enough to get a good meal out of them. That last hatch of the year was all cockerels but one..she is too tiny to breed so she is going too..It was too cold for her to put on any size and she will not show well. The males did not seem to suffer as much. I culled that one chicks with the neck issue..it just did not seem normal. I think it was too long in the egg and was exhausted from trying to get out too long.

This was a test hatch..anyone want chicks? I have them posted on craigs list..I have no idea what theses are but two..One is a Maran/Wyandotte cross the other one is a Orpington/Rock cross. The other ones might not have made it into breeding pens in time to be pure. They could be pure English Orpingtons.

We havea flock of about 20 wild turkeys that come visit us almost daily. They are eating whatever falls from the various bird feeders. I am thinking of throwing out some cracked corn for them.

WildSam-not sure if we "meet" on another forum? A while ago perhaps? Anyhow welcome to the wild Cheesehead thread lol

Hey all! Hope you are surviving the cold.
Well, I posted the chickens last night. I sold 28 birds today!!!! I don't have much left to sell. Of coarse a random mix roooster. And a mg rooster. A young hen. And I single call drake. We will see. I am happy with the results. But my thumbs are tired from all of the texting ;-)
I have met someone desperate for a sumatra rooster. I am keeping the trio I have left. Any of you have them? I ak sure it would be appreciated! !
Welcome wildsam! Hope you can male the bash :)
Del, if I knew those orps were pure I might be very tempted to pick my blue rooster!!!
It sure feels empty here with half of the birds rehomed :-( but we now have all the room we will need for all of the purebred chicks for the 4-h stuff.
Jim, how is the search for a vehicle going? Your por chickies probably won't lay for a week! After the water deprivation. Funny when syd slept at a friends house on friday, I told her she was having a surprise. She was sooooo excited when she asked if we were going to Jim's house ♡

Bringing up fat, I purchased a half a pig last fall and they give me a bag of ground fat. I'm assuming I can give it to them like suet to the birds? If so I'll thaw it and divide it amongst them. It's quite a huge bag, probably 10 lbs.
WHat you should do is make yourself some home made lard and then feed the cracklin's to the birds! They love them. DOnt waste that good fat without taking out the lard first! If you dont end up using it all them you can always feed THAT to the birds too. The best thing for biscuits, pie crust and the like for sure!

OK--really need to lock up...gotta be back at work at 8 AM tomorrow! Later and sleep well friends. TerriO

Hi Cuties, I am not searching too hard for a vehicle ,, yet..

I want to try fixing what I can, first.. Heavy on "try"..

Syd can come any time she wants to.. bring her pony and move right in..
we could go for buggy rides when the weather gets nicer ..

the puppies' eyes won't be open for about another week,

I hope it warms up by then so we can put them out in the dog house.. I am not looking forward to 8 puppies running all over the house.. even as much fun as it sounds,

we cannot put them down in the basement, because Dora wouldn't go up and down the basement stairs..

Neither of the older dogs have ever been allowed or encouraged to go into the basement.. they also know that our bedroom and Annies' computer room are off limits..

I should go make something for supper.. there are lots of left-overs but I don't feel like searching through the containers.. maybe I will just make some popcorn..

when I worked in Medford, I made many trips up to Ladysmith,, stopped at Jump River Rosies a few times, too..
.........jiminwisc......

Hi Terri, too,, we must have been typing at the same time again.

Jump River Rosies is gone and replaced with dog boarding and the garage is still there and they work on race cars. I can still remember when the deer farm was there, brings back memories. I live about 6 miles from there.

I have no idea how to make lard Terri, I can faintly remember when I was a kid my grandma making it but didn't pay close enough attention.
