Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Went to an auction yesterday, my favorite cold Sunday afternoon past-time when the Packers aren't playing.
Jim there was a vehicle for you a 1994 Chevy S10 in immaculate condition, 4WD you would have probably wanted to buy a topper though... the real sell was the mileage 21,000... Hubby sure was tempted.

While I had hubby stationed to purchase a dresser and night stand, I was waiting for a couple of items to come up to bid on a table a young guy late 20's early 30's and I were talking. He was saying he really valued older people (omg I am an old person)We talked moderations and how things change... I told him my philosophy on a long life was simple " Have a sense of humor and you just have to get up every morning" He smiled and then when they were auctioning of the Little Jiffy Grain Mill (make your own flour) he bid and won it $150 and then turned and gave it to me...

He said that he had made a killing at the auction and just wanted to do something nice. Still totally amazed and my hubby helped him load of his truck he bought all kinds of wood working machinery lathes.saws, a concrete stirrer and construction type compressors etc., still in shock now I have another hobby but when I use your recipe to make bread I will now be grinding my own Flour, how neat is that...

Live long and prosper all, get up tomorrow and of course stay warm :)

Hey all! Hope you are surviving the cold.
Well, I posted the chickens last night. I sold 28 birds today!!!! I don't have much left to sell. Of coarse a random mix roooster. And a mg rooster. A young hen. And I single call drake. We will see. I am happy with the results. But my thumbs are tired from all of the texting ;-)
I have met someone desperate for a sumatra rooster. I am keeping the trio I have left. Any of you have them? I ak sure it would be appreciated! !
Welcome wildsam! Hope you can male the bash :)
Del, if I knew those orps were pure I might be very tempted to pick my blue rooster!!!
It sure feels empty here with half of the birds rehomed :-( but we now have all the room we will need for all of the purebred chicks for the 4-h stuff.
Jim, how is the search for a vehicle going? Your por chickies probably won't lay for a week! After the water deprivation. Funny when syd slept at a friends house on friday, I told her she was having a surprise. She was sooooo excited when she asked if we were going to Jim's house ♡
Blue? I thought you said you wanted a black male..I just ate all off the blue males.

Hi All!

Delish... if they weren't chicks I would take that Maran cross and maybe a couple more. Chicks in the house seems to upset some people

Nothing else to comment on, getting tired.

Night All!
I will let you know in a couple of weeks if they are hens or not..I have several other Marans crosses in the incubator due in the next week or so.
I will not be hatching out any more unless someone specifically want them. I might sell all of my Marans eventually. I am not happy with egg size. They are all medium sized eggs..very pretty and dark though. I think I have 5 hens. This is my first hatch for Marans. I do not think they will get any larger even if the girls are young. Pm me if you are interested in taking all of the girls.

Aw :'( I have always wanted one like your giant blue rooster.
We have one marans hen. From casied. She is so sweet. And her egg is good size. And almost every day! She is a keeper :) poor girl is a favorite omong those roos. And her hiny shows it. I am thinking of separating her for a bit. She is the only one that looks like that. I am quite sure she is the gal the cockerals fight over.
Jim, I will not be sharing this information with syd. She would go for sure!! You could take Blake for a week or two ;-)

good morning, cold here, but not as cold as predicted.. so , what's a couple of degrees amongst friends ??

Ang, after I "graduated " from 8th grade I left home for awhile and went to Conover to work on a large chicken farm.. I stayed there for about a month,,
then I went back home and worked on a couple of different farms and for one guy who grew Ginseng.. set pins at the bowling alley, stocked shelves at a grocery store.. joined the army..

I started off right after the army as a baker.. I worked at Dixie Creme donuts, Wonder Bakery who made twinkies,, our bakery made bread, though.. the twinkies were made in Illinois.. and I worked at a Super Valu bakery where they made everything for the store shelves,,

then I went to school and became a Mechanical Draftsman.. did that for a lot of years,..

then I quit that and went to work for a concrete company.. then I quit that and went back to drafting and research and developement for Weather Shield windows in Medford..

during all of the afore mentioned jobs, I built my house .. and worked part time at Dixie Creme..
they hired me back whenever I wanted a short term part time job ..

went to work as a draftsman at a couple of different large companies.. got fired from two of them and quit the last one..

On the way home from the last one that I got fired from, I stopped at a real estate office and purchased a bare lot.. I had no money to pay for a $4000.oo lot, so from there I went right to the bank where I did my checking.. I told Ray S, what I had just done.. I said I wanted to put up the lot as collateral on a building loan.. he went into panic mode and rushed out of the room.. came back with a bunch of papers , I signed them and I was now a building contractor.. (don't try this at home) .. then I went home and told Annie that I was going to build a house and sell it,, which is what I did.. twice ,,,

I did all of the trades on the houses, from foundations, flat work, up to the ridge cap..

On the second house, I made my own trusses.. the building inspector wanted the specs for them before he would let me use my ho-made ones instead of purchased ones.. I could not come up with any specs, so I found a diagram in a building book I had and copied the formula and submitted that.. he accepted it and I built my own trusses..

for the first 7 years after I left the army, I held a full time job and a part time job..

that is it in a nutshell.. sorry this was so long, but I wanted to hear it again ..\\

Absolutely in awe!

As for eating poached animals from someone, I knew or didn't know... I don't think I could do it and would probably be making an anonymous phone call to the DNR and have him arrested...

Thanks Cuties, the drive home was much nicer than the drive there. The wind had died down for a little bit while we were on the road so it was not too bad. Upon arrival, the ducks took a much needed dip in the tub. They are in there right now having a wonderful time. I did pick up a new pen for them, one of those collapse-able puppy pens you can pick up at Fleet. The bottom and sided on the inside are water proof, and the bottom comes out for cleaning. When we are finished I can just fold it up and put it back in the carrying case.

Jim, you are an amazing person!

MomG, I agree with you.

Stay warm everyone!

Jim-all I can say is WOW!!! What an awesome life experience. I too, am in awe! It takes a brave soul to go out on a limb and make their own path.

Wow, another slow day for the cheesehead thread.

MomG.... Cool guy at the auction! I miss going to auctions.

DH brought home about 15 lbs of apples that have to be used soon. I pulled some of the worse ones and made apple fritters. The chickens are going to love the scraps! I left some nice long peels they can chase after each other for too.
The birds seem to be doing OK, no desire to go out at all but all the rooms in the coop are open so they have lots of room to move around in.

That's it for me.... Night All!
