Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Quote: I rendered a batch of fat one time,, I used an old electric waffle iron.. I would put a big glob of fat in it, shut the top down and had it tilted toward one corner where the juices could drain into a large metal mixing bowl.. worked like a charm ..

Jump River Rosies was an icon.. I remember watching the deer out the window.. and did you know that the cooler sliding doors were actually Weather Shield sliding windows ?? Donated by my boss.. the last time I was to Jump River was in 1980 ..

My mom was born and raised in Rice Lake/Lady Smith!!! I still have a ton of relatives in the area.

Mike gave the chickens some deer fat today-thats ok isn't it? (Ewwww)
any kind of animal fat is good for the chickens..

I built a Cost Cutters Hair Salon in Rice Lake.. I built several of them all around Wisconsin..
Waupaca, Antigo, Merrill, Stevens Point, Wausau, Medford, Rice Lake, Wisconsin Rapids, seems like I am forgetting a couple ..

A customer at work yesterday said he has a flock of Turkeys that come into his feeders every day. Some of them perch on his feeders and break them. He said he may just shoot some. I informed him that I would love to eat all of the illegal turkey that he can supply.
We have some beautiful alfalfa bales from Canada for the horses. My husband says their too rich, so we've been letting the deer eat on them.
I hope you r kidding!!! I am an avid outdoorsmans and believe hunting seasons should be honored.. Only the strong survive.... your buddy could be taking out the best birds and comprimising the flock.. not to mention hunting out of season is unethical.. and should not be encouraged.....maybe your buddy could set up a feeding station away from the feeders for the turkeys zeke

Zeke! Good to see you again.

Wow, it has been chatty around here lately. Nice to see someone new and a few returns.

Hi Tiki! So sorry about your dog & chickies. At least you know lots of people that will be more than happy to help get you a new flock when the time comes.

Wild turkeys........ oh, the stories we could tell...... DHs cousins used to get them up on their patio. They would tap on the patio doors until they threw some corn out for them. And we had a female that used to visit our yard daily one summer. She would take dust baths in my veggie garden, drink from the bird baths and take naps on top of my picnic table. Unfortunately, she was also very fond of leaving her calling cards on the table also.

I called her Laverne.

My chickens eat any and all types of animal fat. They especially love it in the winter to help keep them warm. You can stuff some in a suet basket or put it into a mesh onion bag & hang it in the coop for them to peck at.

Not much else new. Just bracing for the next round of hell freezing over. Sweet dreams and stay warm, all!

Oh, I'm not kidding. But he's not my buddy. I don't even know the guy's name. He just came into my work complaining about the turkeys. And if he did kill them and brought them in, I would eat them.

I think its ironic that you say "only the strong survive" when all of the deer Hunters are out looking for the big buck. Most aren't shooting the young and weak unless that's all they come across. There's nothing about human hunting habits that is natural.

Hi All!

Delish... if they weren't chicks I would take that Maran cross and maybe a couple more. Chicks in the house seems to upset some people

Nothing else to comment on, getting tired.
