Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well I do have some seeds started but the onions are having an issue with dampening off... There was a bit of white mold on the soil... I used sterile soil too. I added cinnamon to kill the mold, but maybe not enough... My Impatens and Colius though are thriving though. This weekend I will be doing the tomato's, and peppers, maybe a couple of Brussel sprouts to... There are only the two of us and I love planting the seeds and getting the garden growing but by about the middle of June I am done with weeding etc. Also we have something in the garden called nut sedge... I think we got it from someone who gave us some horse manure 10 years ago, I have been pulling and pulling it and finally figured out that doesn't do any good cause there are these little nut thingies at the end of the roots that break off and start the plant all over again, it near impossible to get the whole plant... Round-up doesn't have much affect on it either... Had to buy something special on-line but I read the fine print and you shouldn't use it in a veggie garden. If it wasn't surrounded by a wooden fence I would set a large bon fire on top... that did kill a raspberry patch I had planted in a bad place...Maybe time to replace the fence

I havent' started any of my tomato plants yet. I was thinking the last week in March. I normally don't plant everything in the garden until Memorial Day weekend depending on weather, maybe a week early. So I think that's ideal to have tomato plants 6-8weeks old when transplanting in garden.....right??
The rest I do by direct seed or plants already started.

TerriO- I LOVE squash. I got 4 different varieties from Baker creek heirloom seeds this year and Im SO excited to get them in the ground. One year at my old place in town, I had a relatively small garden and planted the whole thing in Squash and harvested 106 squash. We kept 50 and gave the rest to my family. we ate like 4 squash per week until they were gone in February.

Any good weed killing/ keeping down tips?? The weeds were rampant last year in the place I want my new garden. Like 15' tall weeds! I don't want to use Round up so im thinking a heck of a lot of mulch & a lot of weeding. I was going to use cardboard or newspaper on the paths to help keep them down at least on the paths. I have some old bales of marsh hay that I just use for bedding for animals that I thought I would use for mulch around the plants. Their kind of crappy so it won't be a big loss at all to use for the garden instead of bedding.

I have an order in for heirloom tomatoes, I just LOVE those super cool old fashioned varieties! I have some nice Italian varieties on the way here, along with some striped ones. I never thought I would like tomatoes....... must mean I am growing up.

No news here, apparently I am needing to find something to do so I quit baking and watching old movies on Netflix..... ;)

Time to go pick up the kittens! They both had their surgeries today, and not a moment too soon! Poor Annabelle was in heat AGAIN! 10X worse than the first time!

Windy Fish Fry Friday To All....forgot to say Happy Anniversary momg...so Happy Anniversary..glad you enjoyed the meal of Gold!

Yep, Terri..whatever crossed with your hubs will create a different looking but great tasting squash that are fun to grow....I've played with this issue on purpose for crosses...fun , and good food..what's not to like. Now I'm back to just the buttercup, and a couple of the really sweet meat crosses that I like.

Looking good for the snow melt to all run in. The future weather looks like a perfect slow melt this Spring.

Sorry about your wabbit H&R....

Pan fried bluegills, swai, and Pollock tonight...had a couple filets of swai and Pollock left, so were gonna fry them up and see how they do...we usually bake those species, and again Cajun fries cause they are goodie.

Enjoy the week-end ...bigz

Del-DD13 and I won't be able to come over this weekend. But I'll be able to stop by over my Spring break 3/22-3/30. I have to wait until I figure out my schedule for spring break based on construction that will be occurring that week.
That OK..Coops are still frozen..I tried forking today..froze..
No place to put the old stuff..I have too much snow. I bet I have two feet yet. (It has gone down a good foot already) Just paths..but this warm weather is making my paths wider. I opened the house and let some fresh air in..nice.

I am not complaining about 20F .. it is 40 degrees warmer than what we were getting..

but as long as winter insists on hanging on, I made a large pot of chili .. no regular meal times here for awhile.. just scoop a bowlful any time and grab the box of Ritz and some cheese spread ....

part of my fly pen roof partially collapsed.. just the part that had a tarp over it.. doesn't look too bad.. I think I will be able to just push everything back up into place.. might have to add a couple of boards for bracing..

H&R.. I do not have any peafowl anymore.. we were down to one peacock and he up and died in early winter..

Joe might make it home Sunday..maybe he said..

I wanna get that puppy..

I would not mind it if it stayed above 30..for a week so we can get rid of all the snow., with out flooding.

H&R sorry for all the loss..

I couldn't talk the guy from Minn into taking the 10 month old pup (Bo) ..but he is interested in one of the new males.. He is working on his DW about it.. I keep sending him cute puppy pictures to help his cause..

things are a lot quieter out there today.. we have the tow dogs tied just so they can't reach each other.. they seem to be getting used to the idea that they should get along..

I was going to let Puppy come into the house a little while ago, but he was sound asleep on top of the snow bank ..

Annie even turned Puppy loose when she came home from town.. and instead of running at Bo. he came right into the house..

the little pups are wandering farther away from their coop.. yesterday a couple of them went way behind the garage and through the blackberry patch..

I can't believe it,, over 25,000 members and no posts..??

I had chili for late breakfast and then again for late lunch.. I wonder what I will make for supper ?

Puppy broke loose and went right into harassing Bo.. I called him into the house.. He tried sneaking past me to go back out and I lost my temper a bit.. when I got done hollering, he was lying down by the door and not even thinking of going back out.. I purposely left the outside door open, just daring him to try that again.. I guess me must have believed me, he stayed put ..

I hope they call me to play cards tonight.. I think I have a bit of cabin fever..

only 6 eggs today.. got 13 yesterday, but I think some were from the day before..

Sorry for the loneliness in front of your puter Jim, but sometimes people have some things to do on a Friday to be prepped for a cooler weekend and maybe finally getting to clean out some pens etc. you sure could have let out cries of despair and I'm sure someone would have given you a couple of words to read before now!

Here, I took care of all the pheasies, chickens and ducks. Tried to clean up some of the worst goo and poo and tried to avoid the big puddles of water from the melting snow as not to sink any further into the muck. Supposed to get another couple of cold days now (with even -6 on Sunday morning! Brrr) and maybe some more of the white icky stuff before it warms up again nicely end of next week. Can't wait for that again!
It seems spring has finally decided to slowly move in even in the north here and I'm liking it! Now as just for the snow to slowly melt for we don't swim in this wet mess and all should be looking up again!

Aaah, back to relaxing a bit before raiding the fridge for some munchies...

I looked up that weed Connie and I think we have it here too. I dont think I have had that much problem with it though. It seems to be mostly in the lawn. Do you till your garden pretty deep? The problem that I have is the creeping Jenny/Charlie! I cannot get rid of that stuff to save my soul! Oh yeah...if you want to plant extra seeds for me I will be happy to come to your place and pick them up! (especially Brussel's Sprouts!) I cant seem to grow anything early...everything dampens off or the cats eat the sprouts! I have pretty much given up at this point.

Jim I was just saying that you must be feeling the effects of being housebound! Then you say you want to go and play cards....maybe you will win some $$$ and can get your BO fixed! That would solve the problem ya know...or are you planning on keeping one of the girl pups for him? Yup--"Jim, the crazy dog guy..." I like that name....

OK--it is now decided that we are NOT going out to eat. DH is eating a meatloaf sandwich and I will probably make myself an omelet. I didnt feel like going out....problem solved!

Later folks! TerriO
