I did miss Theo for a few times when I stepped out the door and he wasn't there..I am very proud of him that for sure. He is teething, so it is even more impressive! He has plenty of balls, ropes, and pig ears to chew on. He also loves to drag his blanket around the yard, arrange it and lay on it. I am continuing to get him to recognize his name, come, and to not eat the composted poop that I just put on the garden (it must smell and taste yummy). He will come if I whistle and slap my leg a few times, but not by name alone yet. It appears that he has learned to sit at the top of the driveway and not come down when I get the mail or garbage. I do not want him to have reason to go toward the road or to think that the sidewalk or road are our property. I walk the perimeter of the property every morning and have him sit while I pretend to get the mail or when I take out the trash. So far it took one correction and the rest of the times he has stayed where I put him. I can see why Jim would be sad that he is gone...I love going out to him every morning. He is always so excited to see us.
DD13 was sad that the 5th chick, with the unabsorbed yolk, died. She had wanted to bring it in and doctor it. I told her that we had to let nature take its course and not play God. I was hard for her to accept last night and saddening that it had actually died. I explained that it would have been an ill critter its whole life if we had stepped in.
How is everyone elses hatching coming along?
Lol....I'm on 57th and 11 on Braun.
wonderful news!!Good news!!! My dad was at an senior resource event today and ran into the Treasurer of Zion Council and he asked about my ordinance proposal and what was happening with it and that it seems to not be progressing. She said the man you want to talk with is over there. So my dad went over to this guy, mentioned me, the guy was VERY familiar with who I was and mentioned that the council had already agreed and approved the ordinance, but that it would take a little while to get it all on paper. SO, although it isn't official, my proposal for ordinance change to allow chickens & bees has passed!!!!!!!!
I have only a pair ..I am supposed to be getting white hens, but I keep putting it off. Cuties has more than I do. I sold most of mine to her..Have 3 SS and 2 EE hatched today. 6 more yet to hatch, all but 1 has external pip. Put an ad on swap line today that I have chicks and will be hatching most of the summer. Lady called north of Hawkins interested in EE's so will call back if her husband will allow her to get more. She said she had a friend interested in Silkies and I don't pure anymore so I directed her to this site and thread as I thought someone on here breeds them, Deli? maybe, can't quite remember.
I have 2 more batches to hatch over the next week and half yet. Still have to set 4 dozen BYM that someone requested and 2 dozen of my EE, SS and BLRW.
The chicks I hatched a few weeks ago are getting quite big, nearly feathered out and don't want to stay in their brooder so will move them over to the rabbit cage I had the others in most of the winter until it gets warmer outside. I had anticipated for better temps, but seems they are saying it will drop again next week.
It's been raining steady here since about 8pm, not looking forward to what it has done to my driveway in the morning as I have to take son to work, pick him up and be in Eau Claire by 10 for visitation.
Thankfully they are turning the cows out after milking now at the farm so instead of getting up at 4 to take him to work I get an extra hour of sleep and he don't have to be in until 5:30 now. And since I knew this my body decided to wake up at midnight, gah can't ever seem to win.
Was working on the driveway this afternoon with the skidsteer. Got to the end, got out to check mail, sat back down buckled up, turned around to head back down and made it about 15 feet and heard a grrrrrr and it stopped. Runs just fine but won't go forward, back or the bucket won't engage. It acts like the parking brake is stuck. Will have to call John Deere tomorrow and see if they have any clue as to what is wrong with the darn thing now. And I'm sure it's going to cost dearly to get it fixed. Sad part it's sitting right at the end of the driveway, in the way.
Oh so tempting, but I have so many hatching now and steadily that I just can't. Deep down I really want to but have to hold self control.yes..almost walking distance..
