Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

hi again,

It is raining here like crazy ..

I fed the birds..

opened the gate and 6 more guineas went back into the pen.. I don't think they were of that flock in there , though.. there was a lot of fighting going on.. I will have to check them in a little while and if they are still at it, I will have to kick a few roosters loose..

got 2 more eggs from that pen ..

Hello all,
I'm a brand new member of the site, and brand new to raising backyard chickens. I've just bought a pre-fab coop, and am building an extended coop and run for the hens I will be getting this summer/fall. I am wondering where around Madison I can go to get good stock Buff Orpington hen chicks this spring, or hens this fall. Also, If there are any tips that spring to mind (I've read all the forums on that subject, but there's always more, right?)
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi and welcome..

In a couple of weeks I will be setting Buff Orp eggs.. but I am 150 miles Nort of Madison..

Rainy Afternoon All.... Welcome Wooly, to the cheeseheads. Good folks here always ready to help.

The nursery called today with my 500 trees.....met up with zeke in New London and sent his 400 on their way home...we will planting trees in the days to come. Thanks zeke...your the best!

Collected 12 eggs today....that's good girls for sure. Time to separate breeds I'm thinkin....I'm way late with hatching this year...kina like spring, eh!

The lawn is starting to green already...except where I never raked leaves last fall....that should eliminate quite a bit of lawn to cut....way to many leaves to rake in the fall.

Good luck with the hatches....sounds like you have a bator full Jim....maybe time to fire up another?

Hope I can get some trees in tomorrow....I'll be callin turkeys for a friend on Sat morning....hope he gets lucky early....so I can plant trees then.

Keep em dry....bigz

Evening

its been raining off and on all day, no sport practices tonight because of the rain so an evening to slow down. Each day this week one or more of the kids have had practice....keeps me running for sure.

Still working on a unit, it is looking so much better these days- new carpet, blinds, doors, patched and painted all the walls....have a few more days of work and it will be good to go- nice thing is, it is rented!

Welcome to all the new peeps!

Congrats on those hatching eggs!

Cutie you have there Sclark73- hope she is doing better these days!

Both sets of bunnies are getting bigger each day- some of these will be shown at fair by DD and DS(9)....not sure if DS(12) will show any of them.

Someone asked about Peafowl? We have a trio- white peacock and 2 peahens (India blue and pied), the male can get loud during breeding season(usually April thru July) and it does carry a distance. The male just about was added to our Easter menu- he decided to start calling at 2 am Sat morning and continued once an hour for the next few hours....jerk! So far the neighbors have been cool about him..

Sat. morning we will be picking up some buddies for our new Quail

Hi all, me again..

UnkaDan knows about my car trouble as does some of you..
I took it in to the fixit shop Monday.. They weren't going to work on it until next Wednesday, but they had an opening so they started on it..

The plan was to change the furl filter and go on from there..

the mechanic who pulled the short straw, called today.. said , he couldn't change the gas filter..
there isn't one !!
whoever changed the fuel pump, cut the filter out of the line and spliced a piece of hose in it's place.
did such a bad job of it, that they will have to replace most , if not all, of the fuel line to get a filter in.

also, was no check valve so the gas was draining back into the tank and losing pressure..
that was the main reason for the hard starting ..

Now I am wondering if they put a new fuel pump in at all,, or just a used pump from a car bone yard ??

Brent, maybe pluck a few feathers from your trophy and wear them when you call, maybe you will be a good decoy.. I only say this because I seem to recall Suzie saying what a turkey you are..
or maybe it was CC, ?

still raining here..
has anybody figured out how to make a dog wipe his feet when he comes in all muddy ?

Kalib let Gus in, and Annie was just short of throwing a fit.. so I snuck down here real quick..
that dog has really big feet ..

good morning, have a few things to do today..

Lens Crafters called , my lenses are ready.. they had better be right this time .. the service in that store has really declined since I first went there.. I am never going back again..

I posted picture of the Delaware roosters on wausau craigslins ..

I also listed my big trailer on there.. it is 8ft wide, 16 ft long.. tandem axle..

Stacy, my tractor's hydraulics quit the other day, too.. I have not checked out why, when something like that happens, the first thing I do is park it and leave it for a few days.. it just pisses me off, ya know ?

let's hope yours is just a sheared pin or something simple like that..

that sure is a pretty baby..

today I can start lifting things again.. life is coming back to normal, somewhat..

Oh most definitely Jim, and it always seems to happen when I really need it too. Won't be needing it now for a few days after all this rain and if we get the 3 more days they are saying Mon-Wed, I'll worry about it after it dries again. Only thing is I have my cousin in law a little upset as it's blocking him from bringing his trailer in. He can go thru his uncles driveway next to ours without a problem, but just wants to give me guff cus he can't I suppose. I told em their was nothing I can do about it right now and I'm not going to get all worked up over it, not like I made it break down on purpose.

Well I set 11 eggs this last hatch and had 11 chicks hatch. I'm quite excited over it after losing so many for the HAL. I did keep these in the Brinsea thru the whole process. They are all now in the brooder all warm and fuzzy. I got another blue and splash BLRW so pretty nice I'm getting much better percentages than last year. I put an ad again today on the morning swap line and had 2 calls already. A guy is coming tomorrow to buy all dozen of the BYM I have and another guy put an order in for 15 BYM so he could get time to get a place for them. So in my insanity I just set 48 Prod. Egg layers aka BYM, 18 Speckled Sussex, 7 BLRW and 8 EE. I have 9 EE, 6 BLRW and 7 Speckled Sussex that go into lockdown on the 1st of May. I've moved the first chicks to a better cage with a top as they keep jumping out the wood and cardboard brooders I made earlier. I still have the tote brooder when I run out of room. I can't believe the number of people that call about chickens and never heard of a SS. They are so pretty and have such character. Always chattering about and just friendly enough to not be annoying like my AI reds were(Never getting them again).

Thanks for the kind comments about my granddaughter, she's a beauty. One good thing is I have some good looking kids who seemed to pass it on to theirs. She's doing so much better and has a nice schedule and sleeps 10-12 hours every night. Hadn't slept too much during the day but I wasn't going to complain. She now is taking some naps and thru a suggestion I turn a fan on to drown out the noise in the house which has helped with her napping. She's rolling over and nearly crawling already. I can't believe how big she is getting and boy is she a smart one. Had a permanency meeting Tuesday and they say I'll have her at least until she is 15 months old and they are recommending the courts give me guardianship. My daughter is doing ok and has been staying clean a little over a month now. She did finally leave the bf and is in a shelter getting some really good help. She is changing the way she thinks finally and seems like she may be starting to grow up some. I pray she stays on the right track and keeps moving forward!

Picked up 5 Wheaton Ameraucana tonight.... They are 1.3 weeks old. I wonder if the lighter winged chicks are hens and the darker winged chicks roos

I figured since my CCL eggs were probably not going to hatch, I might as well get some Wheaton Ameraucana.

Hope everyone it doing well.

Jim - Sorry to hear about your blazer.

sorry is not necessary .. but thanks ,, we are just happy that it is going to be fixed.
the mechanic has a 95 like mine, but he said mine had hardly no rust except some on the undercarriage .. If the body wasn't is such super shape, that car would have been returned right off..

However, I am going back to the people I bought it from and try to get them to pay for some of this repair.. I don't think they expected me to take it somewhere else to be fixed..
surprise fellas !!!!!!!! I don't always do things "by the book"..
