good afternoon,

I planted 60 pounds of seed potatoes , tossed some compost over them and covered them with two bales of rye straw.. I still have 4 bales of straw left.. I will add it as the potatoes grow..

and now it is quite chilly outside, but it is raining lightly.. good thing too, I don't have my hoses stretched down to the garden yet.. this is the first rain I have on my garden since I planted it..

Nevertheless, the tomatoes look great and so do the peppers.. nothing else is up yet..

I sold 20 of the mixed breed chicks today.. they are feathered out and do not need a lot of supplemental heat .. good thing, too, because I think their brooder quit ..

looks like I have a good % of hatch with this batch of guinea eggs.. I will transfer the keets to the chick tv tonight.. I will count them then,, It looks like there are more than 20 in the hatcher..

Sandi, duck eggs take more than 28 days,, more like 35 days more or less.

I let my flock of 25 geese foster all of my ducks one year..
the ganders made the best foster dads ..

I forgot to plant the squash, again !! one of these days I will remember to take the seeds along .

I want to get some onions too.. but they are not absolutely necessary ..

cooties,, guineas take 28 days according to the "book" I am starting to make mine due in 26 days.. My guineas don't go by the book ..

Now Heather is back.. I don't want anybody picking on her.. I am not going to name names, but their initials are CC Robin ..

Has been two weeks of great weather for work. SOME rain wouldn't hurt. Was able to get away from the business long enough to plant last 2 fields.
Last field is always buckwheat. Have someone who wants to set hives by field. We use a lot of honey with the one business....so we will see if we can strike a deal. This field sits next to my former pasture with a lot of native flowers their bees should do well.

Hi yah... Too much to catch up on with you guys and vice versa. My purpose of today is to find out who might have fertilized duck eggs. Georgie is broody. I don't really want more geese because Georgie is the sweetest goose ever and there won't be another as good as her. It only gives downhill with comparison geese I think. (That is unless someone knows of and has particularly docile, sweet geese AND hatching eggs). While I was in Scotland my kids lost all but 2 of my ducks. All I have left is my Aystralian spotted drake and my Welsh Harlequin drake. A total bummer. Since Geirgie is broody, and I hate brooding ducklings, I thought I'd ask on here. Anybody??

Yes I miss all you regular characters. And YES I did hear stories from the Bash. I think it was probably better I was in Scotland for it... ;-)

What type of duck eggs were you looking for? We currently get fertile Pekin and Rouen eggs. In fact, a few Pekins should hatch by next weekend again. Then some Rouens, but hard to tell since they are green/blue colored eggs.

What kind of business do you use honey for ?

Isn't buckwheat honey quite dark and strong tasting ?

Wilds am what kind of duck shelter are you making? Inquiring minds want to know. We put together a hay house last fall for the winter because they weren't staying in the one we made. Worked Great But Would Love Some Plans For A Real Duck house.

Lol. I pretty much just adapted a box type house with a slanted roof. It now has one side opening all the way for easy cleaning, a drawbridge door (that gets locked at night) and a roof you can open to look inside if need be. Built one last year for my gang, but with the increased quacklings we need to find different accommodation for our gentle and special ducks.
Started yesterday with the floor, finished today the back and front (with fold down door) side. If tomorrow's weather holds out I might be able to finish it. Depending on how many pallets I gotta take apart, de-nail and cut to size. Urgh, my back is killing me!
