Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hair appointment in eau claire?! That must be a.fancy place to drive that far. I don't think I've had my hair cut for at least 8 months. I should probably get on that.

Now you have me feeling guilty on the f2's cuties. They are all doing great. Marans are the leaders, though none of the others come close to wing/feather development the OE's have.
So far Bcm's only breed that is roosting.

Jim, I'm headed back to Kersten road on Monday. Need any backhoe work let me know.
Should be done with inspector by noon.

..
I finally got one to upload,, but it took a loooong time.. It is not my computer, because I just sent 3 pictures in one email to a friend and it went very smoothly .

anyhow, this is the rough opening from inside the coop.. I will be attaching the concrete sill to the sidewalk .. the sill will be slightly higher than the sidewalk to help keep the water out..

Its hard to find any place around here that does a decent job on hair and that is open either after I get home from work or weekends. So I am heading to the place Terra works and the owner is staying late to fit me in :-) (think I am getting a spray tan thrown in for free LOL Show up at work tan and I havent even been on vaca_

good morning, going to try pictures again, today,,

..

OK, pics seems to be working a little better this morning,

this picture is from inside the coop.. It shows the rough opening at the head.

you can see some of the repairs I will be doing with the suspended ceiling.. I had high humidity during the cold months and the ceiling tiles absorbed the water and turned to mush, like oatmeal and just dropped to the floor.. I have some old peg board that I am going to cut up and run a row along two walls.. that should give me plenty of venting..

you can see the lean to just on the other side of the side walk.. the vertical steel siding is the end of the garage where the lean to is attached..
I have a tarp hanging down the walls for a wind break for the winter..

Jim: Does your hatching trays in your sportsmans have the covers or did you make something to cover?
I didn't get them and I have chicks falling everywhere. So far of the layer/meat I have 43 hatched. A few died trying to break out and too many eggs in the tray. Total hatched from first sportsmans is 102 with about 50 more yet to hatch and a few in drying. Their would of been more but my nosey butt did some dumb things and ended up killing about 4 opening eggs up.

stacy, I made hatching trays,, they are only 1" deep.. since the turner is not going, I made them long enough to reach tightly from front to back..tight to the door
In the rear of mine is the turning mechanism.. I had to work around that to seal .. I still have some chicks, especially guineas, who can find a space to crawl through.. I am thinking a strip of self sticking foam will clinch it..

I used a 1/2 " wire mesh for the bottom,,

I kept it shallow so that I could easily look in to see what was happening..

I put a sheet of non skid shelf liner on the bottom,, that gives the chicks drying off some traction so they don't get spraddle leg .. (
(like they use in RV's to keep dishes on the table)..

Nice work jim!
Stacie, Scott made "pens"nfor our trays. I will attempt a pic.
Kildare,no worries. I am heading to TerriO's today to help put up some hay. And hopefully helping her out on selling a couple of her chickies. And I am crossing my fingers she has an F2 to snd along for the hard work ;)
type to y'all later!

good afternoon,

got rained out.. but I did get the frame all built and set in place.. I might have to trim off about a 1/4 inch on one of the "legs" so that I have some wiggle room to square it up in the opening..

I ran out of wiggle room from left to right, so now I have to adjust up and down..

I think the smart thing to do would to install the door and adjust everything to match the door..
there is just no way to make the door plumb and level with such a lousy rough opening..
the guy who built that coop should be shot . Oh wait, it was me 40 years ago.. the frost has done much to knock it out of whack..
