Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Could you just buy a bag of fish meal and add that in? Also, Eprinex pour on is easier on the chickens system.

Going to Portage! I just need to reserve a hotel room.

fish meal will do the trick,,,,,,but it can affect the taste of the eggs ( I learned the hard way) and it is a powder so hard to get it in the birds if feeding crumbles/pellets

yes the pour on works, I have around 100 birds much easier for me to give in the water haven't seen a problem doing that

Unkadan, it seems everywhere I searched (on line & word of mouth) it comes back to meat proteins. I was actually thinking of just callling the Brandon market and asking if they would possibly send scraps our way. But was also then told that I wouldn't want to feed the scrap items. As they are not really whT the chickies needed.
Where did you find that feed? Also is ivermectin something I would need to order? Or would fleet farm cary it?
you can use meat scraps but then you should cook it first, I like simple if possible

the feed I am using comes from "Big Gain" they have a couple plants in WI and 2-3 in MN, local feed store sells that brand and they order for me. I think the gamebird products come in from the MN plants. Dealer locator on their website.

I order the Ivermectin online,,,,Foster and Smith carry it in injectable,,,not cheap but one small bottle treats the birds for 2 years here

Cooking the meat scraps does what exactly? Kill pathogens? Are you cooking all the bugs, mice, voles, and snakes your chickens eat as well???? I do not see the point of cooking meat scraps prior to feeding them to chickens...... Does somebody care to elaborate why you would do this???

..
I had the 8 lower pieces glass out for cleaning out the coop..
I washed them and put them back in,,

but wait !!!

Pan to the left..
How are we supposed to get back into the coop ?
somebody plugged the big holes..

I had to chase them around the coop and into the door..

Jim, I do believe there is oats in our scratch. Maybe I will switch the treats to oats and boss. I will research more on the ingredients of our scratch. Thanks.
also, why do you not feed the whole corn to the layers?
clark, either way he is a handsome guy

We did have them on the meat maker type feed. It is 18%. But according to research thei fleet feed we were using has poor type of protein. Things like byproduct. The feed we are going to get from the mill is 24% if I remember; the barley % is upped to get the highrler levels.
thanks for the feedback!
I do not feed corn to the layers because they prefer it to the layer mash.. then they fill up on corn and the overall protein goes down and they quit laying eggs..

Evening all!

Just got in from running some energy out of Theo and working on some perimeter training.

Dad and I made about 6 quarts of refrigerator pickles.

Alice feel asleep in my lap today while I was waiting to finish watering the side yard.

Otherwise not much happening here.

yup,,,to kill pathogens

since folks are getting meat scrapes from an outside source it's a safety precaution suggested

mice, voles, bugs, snakes are live/fresh so different consideration,,,also if you do your own butchering then fresh scraps should be no problem

and yes I did say it
