Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

..
this is the "before" situation

this is the "after" .. now we can see the oat field

this is the whole row of trees I trimmed today..
I reclaimed all of the lawn to the left of the trees..
You can see one of the three piles of branches between
the nearest tree and the second tree..
the brush to the right of the nearest tree is about a quarter of
Annie's raspberry patch.

Jim, you work too hard.

Say, is anyone going to Farm Progress days next week? It is in Portage County this year and is held on the 12-14th.

Hi all!

The quills are done!

Ready to pack and ship.

Saw a baby opossum on the deck Fri, night, today I found a dead rooster a few feet from the wood pile. I think it is the one that escaped from the bachelor pen a few days ago. It looked like it had a broken wing that went gangrene. It also looked like it was dead a couple of days. I figure it broke it's wing getting out and when he started to feel bad hid in the wood pile and died. Mama opossum probably was going to drag it out for dinner and something scared her off.

Guess I borrow the grandson's live trap again.

Jim... nice job!

Night All!

Yeah! So far it sounds like the following people will be able to meet for dinner at Sept International Poultry Show?:
Myself
Blackbrook Poultry
Cuties
BabyLady
TerriO
Delish?

Maybe:
Huntress
BigZio

Anyone else?
I'm going to try and make it also, will hopefully be just me and son Tyler going. I'm only going to learn and possibly buy.

Well getting ready to head to the Ladysmith Swap and finally fair will be over and I can bring my birds home. They will be in quarantine, birds next to mine are sneezing and a few had swollen eyes. Not a good sign, makes me so paranoid. They all received probiotics and electrolytes during this whole time so I hope that will help.

Here is a few photos, will try and get some better ones today.

I might be able to go the 13 & 14. :)

If I'm around, I might also go to watch the show in Sep. Not sure if exhibition birds is something I want to get into a the moment (I breed show mice, it's just a matter of room!) but it might be nice to see the different varieties. Thanks for mentioning it!

Kristi it is in September and sometime around the 20th I believe. Somebody posted a few pages back, they do have a web site if you would like more info.

good afternoon,

I got all the branches hauled to the burn pile ..
I did two piles by myself, and recruited some help for the last two piles..
as soon as the shadows fall across that area, I am going to go mow the weeds down and reclaim a little more lawn..

the birch stumps are still not rotted enough to scoop them out with the loader bucket..

it has been a few years since we cut those birch trees down.. I figured the stumps would turn to mush in short order.. no such luck..

there is a dead furrow right along the edge of the lawn,, I am going to take the tractor and drag along there and try to taper it a bit so that I can mow right up to the oat field without getting hung up on the drop off..

........jiminwisc.......

I have had some bad experiences with dead furrows - typically ending in a sprained/strained ankle and a limp.

I have been researching ways to get rid of stumps, as we are going to be cutting down a couple of pine trees in the area I want to make into my garden. Being a vegetable garden, I need something somewhat organic. The information I have found says to use high nitrogen fertilizer or Epsom salts. Drill holes into the stump and fill with Epsom salts, saturate the stump and area and cover with a black plastic bag to keep it from drying out. The Epsom salts/fertilizer helps the bacteria and fungi grow and break down the stumps faster. I guess I'll have to see if it works. At least the stumps are just adjacent to the garden, not right in the center of it.
