Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Not a clue what you're saying, but sounds like something that will collapse and crush your chickens when it gets too full of snow.
Why don't you just build a lean-to off of the front attached to the wood part of the barn?

that is a calico for sure.. looks like a project gone bad ..LOL

Lean to roof is not very expensive,, use metal and give it a 6/12 slope,, snow will slide off that.
You can order your metal roofing precut to exact length from Menard's..
I have lean to's on 3 sides of my garage,,

I think it would work ok. Scott built a free standing covered pen for our animals. It had a pitch to the top. And the snow slipped right off :) do you have 2x4? Th T would help make it more sturdy. And then he stapled the chicken whire to the 2x4's.

Nice Packer win today...sucks that the Lions won and are still in first place. Getting ready to go sit in the woods.

Have fun...bigz

All this talk about building fits right in. SO is on his way to build a leanby barn to the one juvie pheasant pen we got. That way (if we ever find some sort of roofing material for cheap or free) we'd actually have a fully covered day pen for the ducks once the bad S stuff is here... But so far we ran out of money, materials and the tarp will not hold the white stuff. And as luck has it we're away from most yard/garage sales and there is nothing of that sort on CL to be found either. Dang it!

Otherwise same ol, same ol. The ducks are happy and healthy, the geese chase chickens and ducks around, the skinny dum dum is still getting caught in the (still empty) bobcat trap and the bears didn't come back either.

Mama pheasant and her babies are happily outside now in a small grow out pen and the house is once again bird free!!! :D

Cleaned the condos today, got more straw and feed and trying to eat a couple of bites before we put everyone up for the night again. Really thinking bout putting the scovies somewhere else as they keep picking on my special babies, but no clue so far. Don't wanna have them just by themselves with the weather getting colder now and then winter. Any ideas?

Oki, off to munch and herd the crowds again. Later all!

We have a ton of brand new blue shingles, red steel and white steel piled up in our yard. I went to a friend's house last night. She just got sheep. She had a lean-to built, but it had no roof. And she had thrown some other materials together for a little A-frame, but that's squished once the snow accumulates. So I offered her some of the steel. Now my husband is all worried that I'm giving it away. He's a construction material hoarder!

I'll come by and take some off your hand if you want to! Gosh, that would be so great! We got the rafters up and the walls pretty much build, but nothing for roofing besides the tarp on it right now. So pretty much anything would be great right about now. And if hubby is a construction material hoarder, even better! lol. SO pretty much brings back anything he thinks he can use some day or another. Most accumulates in the yard but pallets and wood and tarps etc is always a nice thing to have for building. Here is a pic of the barn lean-to as far as we got so far.

The roof area is about 30x16' we need to cover, which is okay for right now with the tarp. But not once snow starts to fall. It will tear the already "holy" tarps apart. It would be awesome if you could talk your hubby into letting go some of his "I need this and can use it" things... Tell him it's to help out a growing starting farm out... ;)

to put metal panels on your roof, you need to add purlins ..
but you knew that already ..
