Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Not gonna go to Beaver Dam. As much as I would love to go...I am going to a tack sale early-ish in the am.
I do need some laying hens though I adore Kristi's retirees and my widdle ones, we have one broody and none laying...
I am going to winterize the coop as well. Putting plastic up over the BIG chicken wire "window" except an upper corner of if, and the door which is
chicken wire. And put up plastic on the north wall on the outside, our house mate had put bits of plastic up on the inside but you can see daylight through them and more. And then use up some of my bad hay and insulate that puppy. I can't put any hay on the west side as that is near where the horse gate is and knowing them they would try to eat it.

Hey Hens and Roo's if you have some non showable chickens you want to sell, let me know.

Off to do laundry.
Jim.. I am gonna have to go fishing with you... I remember when I fished in Alaska while in the navy.. that was fun

What are you looking for? We have some young GLW, a little over 2 months. We just got rid of the other extra we had a few weeks back.

Nice Fall Day Today Eh! Cut and split and stacked some firewood today. Then dug the last of the carrots....it was a heaping 5 gal pail. I needed to split them into two pails for washing the dirt off.
Suzies mom needs a bunch for fresh soup....it was a good carrot crop, considering the deer ate over 50% of the tops.

Then hunting for a couple hours this afternoon....cute little nubbie that I watched for a half hour....that was it for deer sighted...oh well, back again in the stand again soon.

Life is good...bigz

good evening,

Cind, I am still betting "fox".....
an owl most likely couldn't/wouldn't carry off a turkey,, and an owl is a light eater, so there would be plenty of turkey leftovers..

Dave and I tried an old spot where our dad used to fish.. nada,, not one bite.. dad must have caught the last fish there just before he died ..

but it was a great day to be fishing.. the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of work anytime..

Annie dug about 2 bushels of potatoes.. well, they were just under the straw.. not a lot of digging to do.. still have about half of the patch to do.. I planted 60 pounds of seed.. already have way more than that harvested.. and happy to report,, not one potato bug in the whole patch,, We do not use any insecticides.. could it have been the guineas ?? IDK ..

did anybody else notice that there were not as many flies this year ? and I have not seen any Japanese beetles here either.. but there is a bumper crop of mice .. and pantry moths ..

fishing with me could be a big disappointment; catch wise ,
we do a lot of talking laughing and have fun..

I never fished in Alaska or Canada, but I sure would like to go to Kentuck Lake at least once..
supposed to be the greatest crappie lake in the country...

my boat went to Canada a few times with my nephews .. I don't have that boat anymore.. one of the nephews has it.. He fishes on Lake Michigan .. he lives just a few hundred yards from a launching ramp..

Hi All!

DH had to help me physically put the Toms in the coop tonight! Dumb Birds..... "Gee, something killed and ran off with with our friend last night, lets Both stay out tonight and roost even lower than he did! Dha"

Storky is trying to go broody again! You would think the cold and the lack of light would tell her something!

That's it.... Night All!

good morning,

slept like a baby last night,, cried myself to sleep and then wet the bed ,,,

IDK what I am going to do today,, Annie is leaving for work in a few minutes..

right now having a clear mug O' java ..

Pack plays at noon, will be watching that.. should be able to beat Carolina I think,,, I hope..
I wonder what they have planned for the last 6 seconds of the game today ??

Gus had frost on his protective hairs this morning,, 29 F in wausau,, prolly a little colder out here in the country ..

I was just informed that we have only 2 eggs in the fridge.. now it is up to me to find a source to buy eggs.. I have a few ideas of where ..

I just love my new little calico cochin cockerel. I will post pictures when I get on my computer. He doesn't have the best type but he sure is sweet. My gigantic black orpington rooster has hormones starting it. He mounted one of my little bantam cochin pullets this morning. Poor little girl. He is like 6 times her size. He's going to hurt someone :(

update, I found a guy who says he will have eggs all winter,, he has 60 laying hens,,

turns out that he knows me,, I lent him my chain driven plucker awhile ago..
he used it , then copied it and built one of his own..
$2.5o/doz.. we will meet at the feed mill in Marathon tomorrow at 9 AM..

He feeds Marathon feed's whole grain layer ration.. and his chickens are free ranging ..

Here's the little calico cochin. The lady I got him from bought eggs on ebay and hatched him from them. He looks like a project to me. He's not very typey, but he fits right in here. Nobody is picking on him yet. My little faverolles x cochin bantams sure have taken to him. :)

I want to build some sort of covered area for a small part of my run for this winter. Unfortunately the barn sides are cement. We have been trying to brainstorm ways of doing this and I am wondering about the following:

Could I build a "box" shape out of PVC and attach the plastic clear corrugated sheets to the top? I am guessing from barn to fence is about 8 ft and the width would need to be about 16-20 ft wide (need to measure) Have the "back" 4-5 ft taller and the "front" side shorter and hang out over the edge of the fencing to cause snow to slide off/outside of run? Thoughts? (if you can even understand what I am saying)
