Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning! DrH--you slept until the same time as me...must be a record for you! I bet you are feeling behind already.

I sure wish I had your energy ot get up earlier...seems that since I learned how to sleep in the day when I was milking cows on the early shift, I would rather do that! I certainly find it easier. I was up again last night for several hours but once that sun came up

I have been trying to get my incubator running at a constant temp. Not having a whole lot of luck with it but I set the button eggs last night anyhow. I think our heat fluctuates too much between day and night for that little thermostat to keep up. This morning it was down to 98 when I got up and is up to 100 now...well, I gotta leave for work--more later, have a fantastic day! Terri O

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!!!! I checked online in the ordiance section and nothing is specifically layed out regarding it. The only thing I saw was in the agricultural zoning you can have up to 20 chickens on 2.5 acres. So, I emailed them and explained that my son is in 4H and we are looking to see if we can keep 2-3 hens in our backyard for eggs and showing at the County Fair. So, we'll see. If they appove it I need to move fast because the hens need to be mature enough to show at the fair by the end of July. I guess regardless, I can have them live at my friend's coop (she lives in the town of Eagle on many acres), but there is some concern about introducing them to her flock if they aren't mature enough. So I'm left with the delima of what to do in the "in between" time.

As far as ordering day olds - any suggestions and can I do it this time of year?

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions and warm welcome

You can always check craigslist in your area for a smaller number of chicks. However, If you order from a hatchery and do the minimum 25 birds, you can always see if anyone you know (on byc or otherwise) would buy a couple from you? Or sell the rest on craigslist.

Welcome! Do you know what breed your son might be interested in raising? I know that in the upcoming months there will be swap meets coming up where you can go and get chicks from and just buy what you need. Otherwise someone out here might be able to point you in the right direction to get chicks from.

Good Morning All....Welcome to the Cheeseheads Treeva. Good to hear you are making some progress already. Alot of Good folks here to help in any way!
I too think finding something local is the way to go. Shipping this time of year can turn out disappointing. I think you could find what you want in time without any shipping involved. A simple road trip is a good option to consider in my opinion.

Wow the media is beating up Cutler for leaving the Championship game last Sunday. I wonder if he will be around in Chicago next year. The fans aren't supporting him at all! (poor guy) The Pack seems to be hard on opposing QB'S. I wonder if they can give Big Ben a limp in the Big Game?
