Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,

this morning the lady from New Albany , Penna arrived and picked up her big girl puppy,,
then I went and picked up 200# of ground oats and corn at the feed mill..
went into their retail store and had breakfast ,
came home, emptied all the bags into the feed bins and was all finished before 9 AM.

one of the gooses is sitting on some really old outdated goose eggs.. while I was filling the feed bins, I heard a loud BANG !! one of those old eggs exploded right under her.. it stunk like heII ..
she just calmly ate it ..

I had a turkey do that, too!

We're at two foxes down and at least one more to go but haven't had any more losses after they got our Sicilian Buttercup rooster.

We harvested one of our Freedom Rangers Saturday. At almost eight weeks of age, his live weight was 5-1/4 pounds - dressed 3-1/2 pounds. Cooked him up on the grill via a "beer can." Delicious!!

Newest grandbaby has arrived and is staying here (with his parents) for the time being. I'm getting lots of "hands on" time.

:welcome   and to the Cheesehead thread. How many roos do you have? It might be from fighting. Or if he is submissive, one of the hens could have done it, or he might be having a light molt. What breeds of hens are you looking for?

FirstChic, I would suggest 2x4s for roosts with the "4" side being the side they stand on. It will help keep their toes from getting frostbite in the winter.

45, chickens are a learning experience, that is for sure. You will have to let us all know when you get your dream home/yard. We will all help you fill your barn(s).  :D

I have one other rooster. they have little skurmishes but nothing major.also im looking for any kinds of hens

Jim,

Always thought it was dogs who appreciated eating stinky stuff... Rolling in it etc.,
and Tomtatoes, another brain cell filled.
Having a rain with the sun shining here today... missed the northern lights last week drat...

I put the last 3 girl pups on craig's list today,,
have one sold already,, two to go..

had one inquiry asking if the price was "firm" ,, If I wanted less, I would have listed them for less..
I did not say it to them like that,, I was more diplomatic about it..

we had a few minutes of rain with the sun shining, too.. but it quickly clouded up and really dumped on us ..

Hi, I'm Mike in NW Wisconsin. I have 4 speckled sussex pullets with a cockerel, 5 barred rock pullets with a cockerel, 5 naked neck pullets with a cockerel, and a dark brahma cockerel. My birds are 9 weeks old now, trying to start a heritage flock. Its my first time raising chickens so I choose the 3 breeds to see which one I preferred but I really like them all (the dark brahma was my free chick). I have the time and acreage to maintain breeding flocks for all three but I'm not too sure which direction to go with this.

Hi All!

Had to tear out 5 rows (252 stitches ea.) of my knitting

guess it could have been worse.

Nothing new with the birds.

Night All!

Quote: Will do, Celtic Chick. :) Was at a friend's dairy farm yesterday in Vernon County. If I took a sickly cat that was dropped off, they would take my roo. Ummm. Nope! I love cats and have four, but this one was not in good shape. I will keep looking.

Cheesehead82, I'm jealous that you have the acreage to have 3 flocks off the bat! I'm lucky to have 4 8-week olds in town.
