Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Quote: Awwww.... I couldn't let a sick cat get any sicker. Would probably cost me a few hundred bucks in vet bills.

Then, I'd feel obligated to keep it, and it would move indoors. I do not need another indoor cat!!!! Trying to do the homesteading/downsizing thing. Don't need any more cats!!! (If I had my dream farm property with a barn, I'd agree to it, but I don't!)

Nice weather day here today....Welcome to the cheeseheads Mike!

I always consider companion planting in the garden...tomatoes always go by potatoes for best results here. Something to do with a good mix....I have 0 potato beetles and large harvests of both the veggie and the fruit....just sayin. Do what works best....companion planting is very important.

Hoping for another dry day..the tiller needs some more action soon.

Brent, are you saying that potatoes planted near tomatoes don't get beetles ?
If so, I am not going to jerk the volunteer potatoes out of the tomato patch,,
so far, knock on wood,, our potatoes in the two rows are picture perfect and blossoming and no beetles,,,,,,YET ,,,

next year I am not going to plant in narrow rows like I did this year.. I figured I could use the small weeder tiller , (10 inches wide) but once the peas git big enough to see, they flopped into the row and I would just rip them out with that small tiller,,
and all this rain kept me from using the tiller anyhow, so the weeds have taken over that part of the garden,, just ONCE I would like to have a perfect garden,,

weather man said next 5 days are going to be dry ..

No rain here today so we did a lot of hoeing and roto-tilling. I walked behind the tiller with a small box and filled it with grubs for the chickaroos - they loved them! The new crew just watched while the older gals gobbled them up. I had to replant some bush beans as something is nibbling them off. Cukes look like they have some blight and my tomatoes are looking like early blight, too. I pulled off the yellow leaves and added some ground egg shells to the soil. I don't think I'm going to have a bumper crop of tomatoes like I did the year before last. I may also add some powdered milk.

Since I didn't have a garden last year I planted some year old seeds. Some did not come up like I hoped. No eggplant, early cabbage, onions or ground cherries popped up. Bummer.

Hoping for some rain tonight! I will sleep very well indeed.

Good luck on the Fox. Has been quite in my backyard flock for a couple of weeks. I know they wiped out neighbors layer flock. He is retired so I believe he has had better success at turning them vegan than I have had. The dog has not caught fox scent in over a week.

Current flock is 3 hens, 2 pullets, and 4 cockerels. All cockerels are freezer bound unless I find a few hens to add to the flock. I really like growth rate of the LB/BCM cockerel. Enough hens and I will keep. Broilers will be arriving the 21st. Believe I have done all the security measures I can do
with the broiler coop & run.

Work has severely limited the "to do" list....and projects on the land.
This is a good thing...business wise....but high on the burn out factor.

No garden this year & the kids will be need to come home & help if they expect to have food plots worked and seeded for this fall.

Very easy work weather to this point. A little heavy on the rain & skeeters...but great temps.

Hey everyone... Well we are down to one raccoon but the good coop and run is set up like fort knox. He keeps trying though..need to work on some permanent means of removal. he is to big for the traps that we have so going a little more critical. Have two broodys but trying to talk one out of it. I can only handle two more birds in my coop to replace the two we lost... Rather give one momma two chicks and go from there.

I am so ready for this vacation we have scheduled later this month to visit my sister and her family in virginia and then on to DC. My kids are going to love that! But first we need to move Mom this weekend to her assisted living place. She is not happy but knows she needs to go...that is a small step in right direction. Have sold most of her big stuff...just have a kitchen table set and a big beautiful china hutch to sell. All t he little stuff is going in my rummage sale for next weekend. Decided that since we got rained out a few weeks back, city wide in New Glarus is next weekend so sell away. Have many more boxes from moms to add to the sale so lots to sell.

That is life in a nutshell besides running to different softball events every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with the kids.

Hope all is well with everyone.

WOW..... was BYC down today?

Nothing new for me..... Night to who ever may stop by.
No, it was up, I just did not have anything to say. Then I think I thought of something, but, can't remember it now. Old age sucks on some levels.

So, how far apart would one plant a tomato plant from a potato plant?
