Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

Looks like everyone was busy today.

No broken eggs today. I think only the young ones are laying right now. I think they get too excited when a nest area is being used. They haven't used the box for a year.

Night All.

good morning,

I spent almost an hour on the phone with my computer whiz son last night,,
He gave me some ideas on how to make my pictures show up so that I can email them,,
I got up early this morning, anxious to try it..

It worked !! I am still not sure exactly how I did it, but I can send the new pictures I took.
that is all I was after..

here goes, just because I can..

..

..
this is how the plucker looks with it's shiny now motor..
the black dots are the bases of the fingers.. I still have to take a picture of the inside of the drum to show the arrangements of the fingers..
the plucker is actually resting on the dolly wheel. to move the plucker, just tilt it and push like a dolly .. I stripped those 8" wheels off of an old wheel chair ..

..
this shows the cut out section on the edge of the drum,, it is called the "feather chute"
I still have to add the metal chute from the hole to the wooden rail for the feathers to slide down..
Note the mortise and tennon joint construction.. there are no metal fasteners in the whole wooden frame..
the wood is solid clear red oak..

..
this is underneath the plucker,, it shows the chain drive system , (my design)..
shows the wheel chair wheels..
1 HP Marathon motor.. the most expensive part of the plucker.. $202.oo

I hope I didn't bore you.. but I just had to try out the picture sending..

@jvls1942 I am really impressed with the plucker you built. I bought my lottery ticket last night, maybe I'll be in touch! Actually, it is worth every penny that you are asking.
We bought an LED worklight for the coop - on sale for $25, I was worried about the brightness of the thing. I have it plugged into a timer - light goes on about the time dH feeds in the morning and goes off at 7:30. It is very bright and has an estimated lifetime of 10 years. We'll have to see on that one. it is plenty bright enough for the coop. when the light turns on there is a run for the coop - it is funny to watch them. the Sagittas are a pretty solid bird, theya re like bowing balls with legs. I swear I can feel the ground shake when they run to the fence looking for treats.

good 6 -0 packer evening..
why does every game come right down to the wire ? Dr says I am supposed to lower my blood pressure,,, the Pack sure doesn't make that easy ..

Jim, my MIL is a hoot to watch during the games. I agree it was a nail biter, but you would think she had her life's savings bet on the game. She is 5 feet, 100 lbs of mean and worried during a game.

I like her already..
I watched the game alone but I catch myself talking out loud to the TV..

Yep same thing here... we had it on delay because we watched the end of the Bears Lions game...TIVO is a wonderful thing, but I could see the score on the computer, glad its over and its a win to boot.
i have the cold from hell...Saved a few of my potted flowers from the frost so had to haul them back outside, trees are a lovely color here, but need some more rain.

Oh and we used the free Purina coop plans... Made a very nice solid coop we added a window and put linoleum on the floor for easy cleaning, and a pully to raise and lower the door.

3 of the 4 older (2 1/2 yr old) have not laid in over a month maybe 6 weeks... They are Maran mix, olive egger and Ameraucana,,, they shed feathers for a molt but do not look bad in general, do you think its the daylight or that they are done kaput? No sure how long I want to hang onto slackers...

Good night all have a great week...

Some A-Hole dropped off some kittens at my DD's workplace.... these babies are barely 7 weeks old...... I am glad we found them before the temps dropped so much last night! We have the three here, warm and safe. Sometimes I hate people.......

I am with you on your feelings about Aholes leaving animals. Our neighbor up and went to Alaska for an extended period and left cats and kittens. We rescued three of the kittens that look about 5 weeks old, they do eat dry food tho. Then today, the mom, dad and sibling came to our property. Should not have put food out for them, but, could not help my self. So sad that they did n't take them to a shelter. If they come back I am going to give them what little piece of my mind I have left.

Yup, we got the right thing then. Ok, so, the fine neighbor down the road gave us 5 more hens. It is really super of her, but, hope that is the end or we will have to build onto the coop. We now have 3 Wellsummers and 2 black marans. So we have a total of 18 birds. So, how long will it take my RIRs to lay regular size eggs. My grandson really loves the little bitty eggs they are giving now tho and two fills him right up.
