What a beautiful day today turned out to be- windy, but gorgeous! DH and I are taking full advantage by doing outdoor chores while the sun is still up- he has an '89 S10 that has seen better days that we are trying to get fit to at least pull a trailer. It needs quite a bit of work and body parts replaced but nothing he can't tackle. Our newer cars, though... he refuses to work on those. I'm giving the rabbits some yard time.
Getting mice in the house. DH set up traps in paper bags and they seem to work well baited with Snickers- so we will keep up with that. The cat clearly isn't pulling his weight!
I made a pumpkin pie completely from scratch on Saturday- baked out the pumpkin, made the crust... best pie I ever had. DH also made some rhubarb kuchen with rhubarb we had frozen. I think we are set on sweets for a while.
Hope all is well with you. Cind- was that you that lost the bird? Sorry about that. :/
I just lost my pretty little Bantam Roo. I am looking to replace him as I have one RIR roo and 17 hens......might be a bit much for him. I am looking for a Dutch Partridge Bantam, does anyone have one for sale?
Sorry first chick never even seen one. Hope you find what you are looking for. If you are interested in any others I could ask around and see. We have a black oegb we may be selling but I'm not sure yet. I admit I've become attached should never have named him and his sister Mickey and Minnie.
They don't call them the Cardiac Pack for nothing. Nice pics of your plucker Jim. Did I just say that? Oh boy, here we go.
Good thing Heather hasn't been around lately.
Momg, I hope you are feeling better real soon. My 2+ year olds are done laying for awhile too. They will still lay during winter but not during molting and not nearly as often. I have one 4 year old BO left that will pop one out here & there during spring & summer.
Mel, good for you for taking in the kittens. You've been a little light in that department lately anyway.
I really hate people sometimes too, especially in those situations.
fishcrazy, that is one heck of a project. Good luck to you. I personally would just buy a shed kit or plans & go from there. If you build a shed & things change down the road, you can always convert the coop to a shed & have some very usable space to store things. Just a thought. It is so much easier to just fling the doors open, walk into a shed/coop and start raking it out or searching for eggs or whatever. You can easily roll a wheelbarrow into it too. Also if you decided to sell it someday, I think you would have a broader market. Just saying.
I saw this one at Home Depot. If I was in the market for a small coop, this would be the one I'd probably get. It is all wood except for a resin roof, floor & doors. It even comes with windows with screens. It is a bit pricey, but you will probably spend just as much, if not more, no matter what you build. Coops are not cheap unfortunately, at least the ones that last do not. The resin roof would be easier than shingles and the resin floor is easy to clean, no need to add any slippery linoleum. (I've had a resin greenhouse for about 10 years & I really like it. It's durable, but I don't like the resin walls because you can't insulate it or hang much from them).
Helped neighbor and brother clean out a storage unit and got these and many more awesome items for free.
Kitchen so far, just have to finish ceiling and trim work.
I won this on an online auction site out of Eau Claire for $1.19. Will fit in nicely.
Another wall in living room partially finished. The rest will be boards.
Went to barn to get rafters I need to frame the floor in the 12x24 that will attach to my orginal addition and had a mishap. I went to fling the end of one as they are 14ft long to detach the end nails on top and it snapped back and went thru my index finger, gloves and all. This was no ordinary nail either, was about the same size around as a round pencil and coated in solid rust. Pretty painful, tried to suck it up but called the dr's and my tetanus show was way overdue. So in I went, reason I stopped going to Rusk Cty, dr bent finger, said nope it's not broke and on his way. Never even cleaned it out and I had to ask for them to bandage it as if I moved my finger it would split back open and pour blood. They did however put me on antibiotics, which was good. I usually don't get too worked up about cuts and scrapes but knowing my shot was out dated worried me, I had tetanus when I was 9 and nearly died. Came home and cleaned very well and have it bandaged up nicely with some vet wrap.
good morning, pack will be 6 - 0 for two more weeks..
If you are going to go through the expense of a new coop.. go with a conventional built one.
dollar for dollar you will have much more coop..
in 50 years you will still have it.. You won't see many 50 year old prefab ones.. IMHO ..
I was awakened by the smell of a skunk at 5 AM.. by 8 AM the odor was gone.. both dogs are fine,, no skunk smell on them ..

ETA:
it was such a nice day again,,
I cleaned up the yard a little.
Then I got on Ollie and spent a good hour or more back dragging the driveway again,, since nobody else was home, I didn't have to dodge around parked cars.. I did a good thorough job..
we mixed some ground feed with the layer crumbles.. those chickens carefully picked out all the ground feed and left the crumbles.. I can't say that I really blame them..
they seem to be gleaning what they need from the yard yet.. wait until it is snow covered and we will see if the crumbles look better to them,,
Annie found sthe gas tank cap on the driveway,,
She just happened to see it when she was pulling the dumpster back to the house..
I searched for it before I back dragged.. I must have uncovered it while I was dragging..
