Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I have been getting the potting shed ready for spring, I bought some peat pots and seed, and now I am ready to plan the garden layout for the season. Wishing the snow would go away so I can scope out the ground for spots that need some rabbit/bird/horse puckie. I'm itching to get my hands in the dirt!
i I have been thinking hard about fertilizer for the garden.
I have hardly nothing in the chicken coop because I kept only a few birds all winter.
Maybe I will have to go to the neighbor and try to get a load of cow sh-manure..
Otherwise there is always the option of buying compost by the cu. yard from a place just Nort of Wausau.. trouble with that is, I don't know what was composted.

It was still a good race to watch.

The livers from northern are excellent dipped in flour and fried in butter. I always fillet my northern too.

Welcome to the thread kz....just might be someone looking for that specific roo on here, if I remember right. Someone might just want to claim him, have a little patience for the right response, some folks don't check in here everyday.

It was raining, then snowing, and now it's just dark out there... :idunno

We also had fried livers Sunday, yummy.

Vicki when you get settled in let me know and we'll have a coffee date.

Cuties no problem in tapping. We got 5G in 2 days and have it boiling down. Haven't been out today but with all of the snow and never having been above freezing I doubt the sap is running.

6.5inches here today

I completely agree. Can't wait for that first dirt manicure. I already started some of my garden plants. I never really plan out my garden layout. I probably should. I have cleaned the coop 2 or 3 times so far and will be doing it again shortly. I have been spreading it out on the garden and will be tilling the heck out of it as soon as possible.

Just a inch of the white stuff here today...sorry to hear about those that received more. Good thing it's gonna be melting soon.

Yep, I have my seed order all filled out for sandhill preservation, I just have to drop it in the mail tomorrow.

I'm still getting 6 eggs a day. The good weather coming next week should help get things going for real good improvement in the laying dept.

Jim...in my knowledge the special blacks are mixes to produce good egg layers so combs could vary. But floppy comb is also indicative of dehydration. Even though we got 3 inches of snow yesterday and freezing rain which sucked to drive to work in... we had a 7 egg day! With 12/13 layers, that is pretty good! My bantams are showing no sign of laying yet. Now that Drago our OEGB has matching girls, I would love to see those babies! although still not sure what exact color our original OEGB hen is... I need to get a picture of her.. I have seen quail listed as a color but dont know if that is a proper color but she also looks like a brassy back as well...she may just not be quality. They are sweet little birds though. Incubator filling up plan is for this weekend so getting excited to have babies around Easter.

Hi cheese heads,
sunny today, but still not real warm. not much thawing going on.

collected 7 eggs so far.. one hen in the nest yet.

the window in the coop door is real loose, I will have to build a new frame around it before it falls out.

I am glad some warmer days are coming.. maybe I can get some outside projects worked on.

ETA went out and found egg #8.
now I suspect there are 10 laying..

Tax day for us - we're off to have our taxes prepared. Hopefully we'll elect someone who will help get our taxes simplified and maybe even streamline or get rid of the IRS. One can only hope...
