Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Jim...we bought the hutch off someone who had it for bunnies... It is really well made and solid but not crazy heavy that two people could not move it. It was exactly what I was asking my DH to make me... only thing I would have done different was making it a little higher in each section for big bird medical cages. Most would fit in there fine for a period of time. Might winter my bantams in there next year...we will see.

Like the heat pad idea... probably going to have the chicks in the house for first two weeks in a large rubbermade bin. I am hatching for some other people as well as myself so lots in the incubator, but most are darker colored eggs so I really cant tell if viable or not. Tossed a couple clears yesterday but otherwise a big question mark. Need to start my process of bleaching/cleaning out chick waterers and feeders that have not been used in a year. Get everything ready since we have 15 people coming for easter (please be good weather) and chicks are due to hatch that weekend. Hoping the people who wanted chicks will be able to pick up in a timely manner either Easter evening or Monday! Next up is building something to raise the roosters as meat birds.

Question...we have a decent sized coop and run for our birds with extra space. There will be a time, around when these guys are 11/12 weeks old that we will be out of town for 10 days or so. I think we have space, but if I throw the roosters in there with the pullets and big birds, will they go bonkers? It will be easier for my bird caretakers if they are all in one spot.

I would put them together a quite few days ahead of time so that they would be all settled down before you leave.

ETA:
it looks like i have the last word.
good night Cindy.

The sun popped out for a short time late in the day - just a tease but it felt warm on my face.

My seed packets are spread out on the dining room table. Time to make plans for what goes where. Can't wait to get the garden turned up and ready for planting. Everything is GMO free and all is heirloom except for the Peaches and Cream sweet corn - I just love that corn, it's the only hybrid I ever plant.

We went to Chicago this past weekend for the engagement of our daughter and her boyfriend of three years. He previously asked us for our blessing and he had a beautiful surprise planned for her.

We went to Millennium Park under the pretense of meeting her friend for brunch on Sunday. The friend met us and said we should wait for her BF who would join us shortly (we had to stall a few times along the way). When we were near the pedestrian bridge over the highway a Mariachi Band was there to perform a few love songs dedicated to her with love from Heli. She was so touched and nearly cried.

After the last song her friend told her that it was time for her to walk up on the bridge. "What?" "Just go. Go now!" And Cate walked up the ramp to the bridge. Heli met her halfway across with a beautiful bouquet of flowers with his family following at a distance. He got down on one knee and proposed. She said "yes", burst into tears, and there wasn't a dry eye on the bridge.

I'm so happy for them! I'm so happy for us! We're going to be in-laws with a wonderful son-in-law and I just might get some grandchildren, too. Wedding is tentatively set for next spring.

I'm not allowed to post it on FB because they haven't told all of their friends and family yet. I couldn't wait so you, my WI chicken peeps, are the first to know.
