Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wow everyone seems to be typing fools! I LOVE it! The dog park was really fun--met some nice folks and saw some that we seem to always see there. Funny you know their dog's names but not theirs!

All of our dogs are sleeping now except foe Elliot (my avatar) she is making her little bark for her dinner...which is in 15 minutes! I swear that dog wears a watch! You should have seen my fat beagle running after a couple of boxers! It was hysterical--there is some connection with boxers and beagles but I have no idea what it is.

Still nothing in the bator...today is day 19 for the buttons--I think they are supposed to hatch at 18-19? I guess I will give them a few more days. (such a sucker) I just feel that there might be something ready to hatch...My counter is getting pretty full of guinea eggs! I am going to set them and some really dark brown eggs that I am getting lately...probably not a good idea but this hatching bug is really serious!

OK--gotta see if the porterhouse is thawed....MMM I love getting a new steer! Asparagus with Hollandaise, baked potato and a steak! What a dinner!

Eta: Cinlady--let's get together...I would like to take that roo off of your hands. I used to have a Turken a long time ago and I want another one! PM Me!

I did an "autopsy" on the goose egg.. the little buggar didn't have an egg tooth at all.. the top beak was about 1/8" shorter than the lower.. I don't know if he formed that way,, or if he wore it away.. I am leaning toward it not forming..

My guineas are not laying yet.. I think their coop is too cold..
if they do like last year, I still have a month to wait..

they do lay slightly different colored eggs.. I never had any brown ones though.. their eggs are very distinctive tear drop shaped.. the small end is very pointed.. and noticeably smaller than a medium to small chicken egg..

raimnell , I can't believe your grandpa would scrimp on framing in a house.. even if he liked to scrounge for parts..

Annie has 11 eggs from the new hens for hatching already.. we need 9 more by Wednesday.. doesn't look like that will be a problem.. I should incubate a couple to see if they are fertile...
The sportsman is running anyway and it only has 1 egg in it..

If they are fertile, I might just go ahead and set about a week's worth of eggs..

Had a pretty good day today. Charlie is a two-year-old Aussie male that I got back a few weeks ago from his co-owner. She was sold on co-ownership as pick male out of Riley, my original Aussie. The gal really wanted to get into showing and wanted a very nice quality Aussie to have some success in the show ring. Charlie was sent on co-ownership with the understanding that she would show and I'd retain rights to breed to him in the future should I choose. Well, a year in and nothing, sucks, but they loved him and if he had a good home I was willing to overlook the contract's requirements for showing. They contacted me a little while ago saying they couldn't provide a home for him any longer and wished to rehome him. I flew him home and have been working to get him into show shape (poor thing was absolutely terrified when I got him, don't think he was ever socialized outside the home). Well today I took him to a match in Waukesha and he did better than I could hope for. He's come so far in the last two weeks, I was very proud of him. He showed pretty nicely, by the end of the day he thought he was pretty smart and was acting like a show dog. He took Best of Breed Aussie and a Herding Group III in the match. I'm just delighted that it was a good experience for him and really bolstered his confidence. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.

Got about 13 nice dark eggs from my Marans collected to set on Valentine's day (along with any darkies I get that don't freeze before then...have lost at least 6 to freezing of the darkest ones). Hope to make these my next generation, selecting my Blue/Black/Cuckoo Marans for the darkest eggs I can manage.

May pick up a dozen grocery store eggs to set for grins alongside them. Hehehe.

Enjoy the heat wave! My chickies certainly are!

TO, you stinker! Thanks for the "pizza"!!!!! I don't know about the flowers but the rest is 'doable'..... thanks again! I love Rose! She is amazing! I could never produce anything as beautiful, but I can try!

Here is a shot of our kitchen with the new cabinets. These are not seconds, we ordered them at MS and they were made in DePere. Please excuse the construction mess!

Raimnel, I completely understand you wanting a dishwasher that works; no matter HOW small the sucker is! For busy moms it is an essential piece of kitchen equipment!

I am taking a beginners Kayaking class at the local Y (not sure if I said this already). Tomorrow is class number 2! I am sure it promises to be as much fun as the last one! Going on a trip sounds like a fun thing to do this summer!

Glad it got there BL4...remember "the deal"!

Although now you have another assignment...since I have to be gluten free I guess that is going to throw a wrench in the deal! If I can just see that cake made and others enjoy it--that will probably have to be good enough! (whew...arent you glad I am easy?)

My neighbor came over and said that some of the eggs I have that I thought were guineas are really chicken eggs...they are of a similar shape but a little more brown. I am setting them all tomorrow or maybe in Monday--I will see what they are....somehow!

Sleep tight everyone...good dreams to all--mine are still haunting me from last night! Terri O

speaking of kayaking,, have you ever heard of the
Portage to Portage web site? I don't know if it is still on or not.
that is my nephew who took that trip all alone..

he started in Portage Wi and went to the Gulf of Mexico , across Florida from west to east,, up the east coast,, through the great lakes and back to Portage.. He left in Dec 2009 and finished in Agust 2010..

Terri, if you are going to set guinea and chicken eggs together,
delay putting the chicken eggs in until a week after you set the guineas... that way they will all hatch at the same time.. same lock-down time etc...

Wow everyone is busy on here the past 2 days. Loving this warm weather.
Sorry about the accident Goth-it can be really scary. glad you are ok.

Well I spoke too soon before, had 5 great layers, started selling eggs last week and now I am only getting 2 or 3 a day rather than 4-5... of course, once I start selling this has to happen, but it feels good to sell some!
Question for you experts... we have been putting the poopy hay in the compost bin this winter from the coop... how long does it have to mellow to be able to put in the garden so it wont burn it? Will it be ok by April/May when we think about tilling for prep?

Cant wait for my babies in 2 weeks! 2 new chicks... the kids will love them i am sure... so will I!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. So I LOVE my hubby. Look what he got me for a "get well soon" present. Well first he picked me up from the hospital and had flowers and chocolate on the table for me which I thought was so nice and the end of it. Well...... look what I got today! Sorry the pictures are so bad, the lighting was terrible and he was scared. Also if you click on the pictures they get bigger.

Isn't he adorable! He is from a local breeder that has been breeding for 27 years and got his original breeders from Jean Mill. He will be my newest show kitty. Lets see if anyone on here knows what breed he is.........
