Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Magnificent Sunday All... Nice cabinets bl4, I think you did good! Yep, that's a pretty kitty Goth. I didn't have a clue as to it's breed. We just have cats that are spoiled here.
Nice idea Doc about the quill whistles...sounds like fun for sure! I ain't got no goose or no whistle... what the heck

I have the grill fired now and the dehydrator going with venzun jerky. The jerky will be done around 10 tonight. If folks like it , i'll bring some to the bash for samples. We always make 2lbs at a time. It goes fast around here.
OK off to keep an eye on the steaks.... Later ~ bigzio

Hi everybody!

Sorry, I'm never on BYC anymore.

I moved a few months early, and I can't have my bazillion birds anymore! I gave away most of the ducks, and sold a couple more in the past week, so I'm down to 4 Calls, 6 Hookbills, a pair of Stanbridge Whites, a mallard, and a Khaki Campbell at the moment. ALL the Dark Campbells and Indian Runners are gone. I'm driving from Baraboo to Lyndon Station and back EVERY DAY to feed the reamining birds, so I'm sure I'll part with more of them soon! Edited to clarify, since I got a few PM's - I'm definitely keeping the last 4 Calls! I gave away the Butterscotches, Silver/Splashes (they were just too skinny, they had terrible type for Calls), and half the Whites, because I'm planning on concentrating on a B/B/S Magpie project for the next few years instead. I'm not getting rid of ALL the birds, I'm still breeding them, just massively downsizing in numbers and focusing on a few, specific projects.

I kept all my Bantam Cochins and gave away all the other mutts and mismatched chickens I hatched from swap eggs. I still have the Sebastopols - I'm planning on hatching from them this spring, my little sisters each want to raise their own gosling for 4-H.

So, since I only see the birds for about an hour a day, I'm going through some serious withdrawal, so..... I just bought 100+ Coturnix Quail eggs that'll be here Wednesday to throw in the 'bator. I'll have birds that I can have here in the suburbs of West Baraboo! I'm getting a mixture of Jumbo Browns, Tibettan, and Texas A&M's.

My boyfriend's looking forward to processing the extras for meat. I know I'm eating meat again and all, but we'll see if I can actually stomach butchering and eating birds I hatched and raised!

LOVE the cabinets, BL4! I'm trying to convince Will that we need to replace our kitchen cabinets before we put this house on the market later this year, but he insists there's "nothing wrong with them" (they're 40 years old!).

Sorry Annarie, I know how it is when you move and can't take critters with you! After 8 yrs I am back with chickens!
I would love a pair of calls, we fell in love with them seeing them at the Dane Co. fair.
So glad you are getting quail though they are sooo cute!

Worked horses today, riding mine on thursday, I have to, it will nearly be 50 degrees!

Enjoy the warm weather all.

Well, luckily, my younger sisters back home are willing to take over a lot of the birds for the year or so until my boyfriend and I move someplace we can have them (we have a little 5-acre farmette all picked out, just 10 minutes away from here, just outside of Baraboo - just hoping it doesn't sell before we have this house remodeled and ready to sell!), so I don't have to part with all of the birds - I just have to whittle the flock down enough so that it's not too much for a 12-year-old to handle!

I couldn't SURVIVE 8 years!

TO..... see you soon!

Goth.... A friend of my oldest son raised them. Real nice cats in general but he had one with "a screw loose" and got mean!A cat that gets that big and turns mean can be a problem! I know it doesn't happen often, but it is a genetic issue to look out for. Sure hope yours stays a sweetie!

Dr.H... I would love a goose whistle!!! Hope we get lots of quills!

BigZ...... Stock up on the jerky!!!!! I'm sure we would want more than "samples"! That stuff is addicting!

Annr......I know how it feels to be without the poultry! I was raised around chickens and pidgones!.... Then my ex-IL's had chickens I was talked out of keeping them myself... then we moved to where I couldn't have them....a few times. Then I moved to where I could.... but the land was so toxic I didn't want them there! After over 30 years I Finlay have my chickens!!! and I am so happy with them!!! I think part of the trick with having a 12yrld taking care of the poultry is giving her an insentive.... money, some birds, a gift....the more she wants it the more she'll work for it! 2 maybe 3 kinds of birds.... the number of each shouldn't be as important as how many kinds. JMO

Well, got to sleep so I can take "Turk" to his new "mommy" ...LOL I'm sure he'll be happier with TO than here!

Good Morning Everyone! Good hear from you Annarie! Sounds like your new life is coming right along. Still wondering about KAQ? Cind I need to find some quills to see if I can remember how to make them. Dad and Mom stopped over yesterday and I forgot to ask Dad if he remembered. Bigz I betting that sample of jerky would go well with a beverage of choice. Experience tells me so. Well the person that doesn't get sick is sick.

Gotta think of something with a lot of garlic in it for this evenings repast. The chickens were very happy yesterday. All the snow from the plowed areas melted so they had fun looking for something to eat. I let Pea and Btwo out. I went out many times to check on them. Buster didn't pick on Peatwo at all but one of the slw hens went after him and he put her in her place. One time I went out and 4 hens and Buster were in the appartment and Peatwo and Btwo were checking out the nest boxes. Peatwo followed Btwo around while she inspected them. Reminded me of a hen pecked husband forced to follow his shopping wife.

had a shocker this weekend, my older cousin who I go to swap meets with, got hit by a train in his driveway. Lucky for him he didn't have his seat belt on, he pick up the mail so was driving up to the house, the worst part is the engineer never call the accident in, plus he never blew the horn

Congrats BCC sounds like you have quite the variety. I went out and opened up the appartment going to give it a day or so to see if they're going to get along. Btwo used a nest box this morning. Have to look at the long range forecast maybe a complete clean out is coming. Kinda early for that tho. Called the contractor early this morning and he's coming over at noon. Once I get his estimate back then on to the tax man. Then the work begins. Man I hate chick pics! I want some! They are beautiful BCC!
