Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Dr Ha Ha, we have electric baseboards at our old house, the rental. They are good for back-up heat for sure. But there are some things you should know.

1-You can't put anything within 3 feet of them they say, or they can start a fire.

2-The electricity you use with them is VERY expencive. My renter uses them for primary heat now (because his kid broke the pellet stove we had in there

)

And #3...this is my favorite
big_smile.png
.........you can melt crayons on them. I know this from experience.

I haven't been feeling good myself. That stomach bacteria I told you about has been acting up. Went to the Dr today and ran some labs. She put me on another antibiotic and vicadin. And for the first time in about 3 weeks, my stomach is not hurting. Hopefully this will be the end of it.

And Bigzio, You asked what I was going to be hatching. My roosters that I'm breeding are Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and Blue Wheaten Americana and Barred Cochins. The eggs are going to be from my Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and a BLRW splash, and Blue Marans, and blue wheaten americana, barred silkie cochin, a couple of Frizzles, White Orpingtons, and a few other hens. All for myself. I only took certains ones that I wanted to continue blood lines from. I don't want to hatch out everything I have. There are some breeds that I don't want to have any more or I don't have a rooster of that breed. You know what I mean.

So glad it's warming up. You know I LOVE the snow, but I HATE the cold. But....I was outside the other day and I swear I smelt Spring.

I also bought tickets for my family tonight for Disney On Ice for next week.
smile.png
That is going to be fun. We love stuff like that and the last time I was to see the Ice Capades, I was about 9 years old and my grandparents and my mom took me. So that's a special memory I get to share with my boys. And surprisingly, my 11 year was VERY excited to hear we were going. I wasn't sure if he would still want to go. But he surprises me almost every day.

And I get to be a kid again!!!!

CG hope all of you feel better soon!

Man I wish that cabinet place was closer! I would love to redo my kitchen. It's not as bad as some of yours I'm sure, but it could be allot better! And, it has that "wonderful"

Any one want him? Turken X roo......free!

Good Warmer Morning All! REALLY looking forward to getting outside today! Went out yesterday for awhile and messed around. Just practicing. Cind you think you've got that 70's look we had burnt orange carpeting in the living room and all green porcilin in the bathroom. I'm color blind and it hurt my eyes! fm glad your on for more than just a few words! I just want to put the elec baseboards in to take the chill out. Hope you can shake that bug! I woke up to clogged sinuses this morning think it's the change in the weather, I'll take it! Sounds like you've got quite a hatch program going. Be a kid a little everyday it's a lot of fun! TO I know how frustrating it is to write a long post then to lose it all by going back a page. GC OMG your lucky to be alive! Don't sign off on anything they'll try and get off as cheaply as possible. You don't know how things will be down the road for any of you. Jim please don't die even if you are happy we need you!
lol.png
Get outside people springs acomin!

Good Morning All... Hope your hatching goes well fm, and hope your feeling tip top soon.

Thanks for the tip about the cabinets at ms freight...our kitchen needs new cabinets too.

Don't know if there is more than one type of electric heat. Suzies relation has the ones that are oil filled...retain heat well and are econimical to use...they say the kilowatts are way cheaper than oil or gas
idunno.gif
If the electric bill is higher, but way less than the gas bill
idunno.gif
nothing is free for sure!

I'm with you Doc....gotta get outside and get some fresh air and exercise. I have some trees that need trimming. Just might get after some of those today while still dormant.

Enjoy today... ~ bigzio

Good morning all!

Got a fresh cuppa, watching food network, and relaxing in my slippers. I finally feel RELIEVED
smile.png
Went in for my drug test/physical. They take hair samples now, so they cut out 5 chunks of my hair
sad.png
Oh well. My hair is always up at work anyways, so it wasn't a big deal. The physical took FOREVER. I was there for an hour and a half? They fitted me for a respirator for TB patients and that took the longest. They kept joking how tiny I was with my weight, my arms, my face...everything they said was tiny! lol. Then they said it looked like I swallowed a basketball. Jee, thanks! The lady who drew my blood did a terrible job, but I kept quiet. I'm bruising up already. I do bruise easily, but it's so easy to tell a good phleb to a bad one on my arms. If I bruise, they need a bit of practice
wink.png
She pushed so hard down on my arm with the needle in my vein that I swear she probably tore my vein. Yeesh!

I did find out my vision is starting to go. In my right eye more than the left. She told me I still passed the eye exam, but I may want to get a exam once I'm on insurance and its covered, as it may make sense of my headaches while I study. I may just need them for reading. I knew it was coming, I was the only one in my family that didn't have glasses ever, so I knew it was coming lol.

Everyone at work has welcomed me warmly to the group. I love my job! I love the people I work with! How many people get to say that and mean it? lol. Not much sadly!

GC- Omg I hope you feel better! I got T-boned in March and it totaled my car, and although my injuries was practically nothing my neck and shoulder hurt for weeks just as it was re-aligning itself and everything. Car accidents suck
sad.png

I'm having a hard time keeping up with my english this semester...I took on too much this semester
sad.png
I always push myself, but with being pregnant I shoulda been smarter about it. At work they tell me all the time I can study for English, but I feel guilty! Maybe I will need to though.

Oh also, this is 2 for 2 on getting hired while in late stages of pregnancy!! I got hired at the landscaping place while being 7 months pregnant, and now at Aurora being 6 months preggers! DH said if I get laid off again, we'll just have to get pregnant again so I can get hired at 6-7 months preggo again.

We are hitting the dog park today as soon as DD gets out of the shower, should be lots of folks there with their dogs!
Still NOTHING on the incubator scene...I think I will crack 'em open when we get home...gotta take oats out for the hens! Later--Terri O

(PS) BL4--watch for a pizza delivery!!!!
wee.gif

I'll say good morning, but by the time I finish typing it will be afternoon..

Annie let me sleep in today,, she took care of the birds..
said something about saving eggs for hatching,, I didn't catch it all.. she went to town, I am "home alone"..

raquee, that is a neat job search plan your hubby came up with.

If you are going to go to electric heat, go to 220V. those oil filled 110V heaters are Volt-suckers.

Menards has an in-the-wall unit that really puts out the heat.
they are actually bathroom heaters, I have one in my bathroom and one out in the garage in my shop.. the one is the garage is wall mounted with a 220V plug.. but they are real simple to hook up direct in the wall.. it takes only about 10H x 8W inches of wall space and it has a fan..

If anbody is tempted to build a large incubator, that heater would make a good heat source..

when it is my turn to do the dishes I do them by hand.. I don't mind loading the dishwasher, but I hate emtying it..

fordmom, last year I used my blue laced red wyandotte roo with my red star hens.. out of 84 eggs, I hatched out 71 pullets...

I sold and traded all of them for roosters.. My original intent was chickens for the freezer. go figure.. LOL

I better let go and let somebody else have some space to leave a post..

I notice that Ma from lake superior is not here.. anybody know?

later,,,,,,,,jiminwisc.......

Hello fellow Wisonsinittes !

I'm not new to BYC but haven't really gotten a chance to get on the Cheese head thread.

I live up in the NE part of WI.
I raise several color of silkies, white showgirls and partridge showgirls.
I also have true black and blue Ameracuanas, Runner ducks, guineas, Black Astralorp and BO breeding pairs. Oh and one of my favorites, bantam turkens.

All those on top of a variety of laying hens that include EE, OE, BO, BR, and mutts.

I am looking for someone in the area that has cuckoo maran, black french copper maran and blue splash maran chicks or hatching eggs. I hatched out several of these and most turned out to be roosters so I'd like to try again.
Anyone??

Plus I'd like to add some lavender silkies to my group. Anyone have chicks or eggs here in this wonderful state of WI. I do get down the the Racine, Milw area often so could pick them up. As a matter of fact I am headed down there next Friday.

Hope to hear from some of you !! Emailing me is best since my BYC inbox is filling up fast, even with the gold feather membership.

Thanks

Sandi aka FrenchToast

Welcome FT to the WI thread.

So I am looking online to try to find chickens that match the new ones markings. They are in the QT stall for a month or so.
The rooster is from a school hatching project, and the hens are from the Beaver Dam Sunnyside hatchery.
The closest I find on the Roo is that he looks like a dark brahma with out the feathered legs.
The hens are either a Special Black (not BSL) or they are New Hampshire X Barred Rock crosses.
I will get pics up tomorrow.
My OEGB hens are starting to lay, not bad for August born chicks.

Have a warm day all!

dishwasher is fixed
wee.gif
ok this may not make sense to anyone (lord knows it don't make sense to my mother, and she tells me all the time) we a family of 7 use a counter top dishwasher says it holds 4 place settings but I can cram alot more than that in there. I just don't have the room for a big dishwasher. and I like my small one. just have to wash pots and pans by hand, unless of course you just wanna do more loads. lol
DH is buying 2 coolers to make incubators out of since all I'm getting from CL is a bunch of backsidees commenting on how lazy I am for not "having a job" and buying my own. wanting them "free"! BTW in my ad it says that I'll pay for them AND it says USED coolers!
rant.gif
somad.gif
anyway, next week I'll go buy some PC fans to put in them. buying Del eggs from someone in GB
wee.gif
and setting them 1st week in March
th.gif
already!

Ya at MS freight we bought cabinets for our other house for $1000. one set (2 lowers) we had to special order from menards (cause we needed them narrow) was WAY more than the rest on the kitchen. MS has 2nds is why they are cheaper but go through them and you'll love the results! but they also have 1st.
so Jim were you the one to be called to see if the house could withstand the extra weight?? our house was built with every scrap that could be found. grandpa was one who built alot of the houses around but when it came to his own house.... he used alot of everyones scraps!
roll.png
including the wiring! which we replaced! I think this
he.gif
is the right smiley!

FM what day you going to disney on ice? we're going too! well me, my 2 aunts and my DD3 (thats another story). IDK where we are sitting if thats how the tickets work. DD fav is tinkerbell! I think she's gonna be confused as to how tink can be so BIG!
lau.gif

frenchtoast sounds familar did you ever buy chickens from a lady in Shiocton??? seems as though I sold chickens to someone who said their BYC name was frenchtoast??? could be mistaken.

stabbed myself in the hand with a broken corel plate piece yesterday
he.gif
didn't even see it. took advantage of my dishwasher being gone (again remember it's a countertop model) so I cleaned to counter under it and there were 3 pieces of corel in the other junk didn't even see them. stuck it 1/8 inch in. bleed like a stuck pig! stupid plate broke probably 6+ months ago.
forgot what else I was gonna say cause my DH called me. so I'll talk later!
