Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,

when I use 5 gal buckets with an outlet near the bottom, I tap the hole about an inch up from the bottom. that way, if some dirt gets into the water, it sinks below the outlet and does not get into my float valves and plug them up.

I have a friend, Bob H. , who goes to the Red Granite quite often

I miss Cindy's good night , too. Hope she is OK.

coffee must be ready by now,

I started the duck house this weekend! I am going to add a feeding area to this. My question is what should I use for the run area as I don't want it to be mud? I thought I read wood chips are not safe for ducks? Also the run area is 4 feet wide by 6 feet long (house is 4x4). Is that enough room for 4 ducks? They will be free range most of the time. This will be used at night and when we are gone on weekends .

Thanks

Fish Fry Friday the 13th to all. Way to go angiebubs.....think you are prolly happy with the new bator?

Nothing new here....went to the mill and picked up 5 bags of layer feed for $41....I love their feed and their price.

Yes the incubator worked well, however if I can I think I will stick with broody hens as much as possible LOL Felt like an expectant mom, with constantly watching temp/humidity, and with watching the newly chicks etc. then to just turn around and sell them? :-(
Had a couple with dirty butts yesterday, not sure why. I have Priobiotics and save a chick int he water.I gave them a little scrambled egg last night which they turned their beaks up at and went to the crumble instead.

Good Sunday to all.... I prefer to send the boys down the road in the slow roaster. It just seems right to not give up all the good effort put into raising them....if they were small then I understand your thinking bbp. One never has enough housing and pens for all the different projects that could develop if one had the facilities needed.

Gonna be a busy in the gardens week coming up. I'm past my May 15 now for frost, so the babysittin plants is gonna come to a halt here this week if the rain stays away.

I hope Cind is ok to bl4

.....we worry you know, when folks in the cheeseheads family go missing.

Have Fun....bigz

good Sunday afternoon,
I am staying inside today,. did all my running this morning,
went for meds for Annie first thing, came home dropped them off and headed to F&F for a noon appt for a whole set of tires for her Honda.
came home, ate a little lunch and took an unscheduled nap in the recliner.

I am trying to come up with some parts to make a 1 row potato/corn hiller and raised bed maker.
I could buy one for about $400.oo but I think I can make one for well under $100.oo

I haven't been back by the garden to see if my neighbor dropped off a load of manure yet. I don't smell anything so I am guessing, no ..

Been busy in the yard the last few days. Most of the garden is in. The plants won't go in for a couple of weeks but I picked them up and put them in the greenhouse. I have 6 frizzle chicks and 3 silkies in the laundry room growing like weeds. My MIL has a huge round mound that she uses for a flower bed. The soil had gone stagnant from no amendments so last year we dug everything up and sprayed it for weeds. This past week I got ahold of a bunch of composted sawdust and added about 5 wheelbarrow loads of sand/sawdust/poop from my chicken run and tilled the s*&t out of it. Today I got it all smoothed and shaped and put a ring of hostas around the bottom and a large rock in the middle with grape hyacinth around that.

Anyone have any hibiscus, hardy mum, daffodil, or tulip they want to get rid of?

I may post this in another spot also, but I need advice. One of my roosters is a little stinker and fights will all of the others. Tonight I pulled him off of my cochin and noticed that besides a poopy butt, he had red around the vent. My first thought was yeast. I have hens with poopy butts also. So, I brought him in the house to wash him. Then noticed the red was from his tail down his whole rear. And he has read under the feathers in his head. Is this from fighting or something else? I can't post a picture for some reason.
