Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

How did Annie fare with her heart tests on Monday?

better than she expected..
they did a heart cath, found a slight blockage, not going to do anything with it for now..
good news is, she doesn't need open heart surgery, more good news, she doesn't need any stints..
she will be going in on Friday to have some electrical routes blocked . I don't know the medical name for it.
but it sounds like a heart labotomy to me
they will go through her groin to the heart via a vein instead of an artery .

An ablation?

Great news though, glad she is doing well!

these are some of the blackberry blossoms.
this picture is taken from the corner of one of the chicken yards . the berries go down two complete sides of the yard. the yard is about 30 ft x 30 ft.
there is a corner post just about in the center of the lower picture..
this patch goes farther back about as far as what is shown on the first picture.
now you can see why I was happy to get missed by last night's frost .
the fence posts are just over 6 ft tall, can you see the tops of any of them ?.

I'm so jealous :) We planted our first blackberry plant this year but I hope they spread quickly, as I love blackberries. We only got one BC we were told the are self pollinating.

Busy day here with a lot of garden tilling....good start but nowhere near finished. Gonna make a trip with some of the brotherhood tomorrow and look at a pull behind grater for the Camp driveway. They are only asking $300 for it...we will check it out and decide if it's worth it. I'm just there to watch prolly.

My birds are mad as heck being locked up. I'm giving the fox a chance to move on. Then if it doesn't, the flock will be protected by me...then the outcome for the vermin is in big trouble. I have free range chickens because that's what God planned for them to have...freedom without borders.....if I have to keep them locked up, then the meaning of free range is lost.

Our flock has been angry with us too. While we did lock them up for several days following the last attacks. We are now letting them out but locking them up earlier than they like. We are now almost 100% certain that we have at least two predators that are both distinct. We have seen a fox and we saw what we are pretty sure is a badger. Both built very very differently and differently colored.

We have seen a fox twice now and it's in pretty hot water with us. It has even showed up when we were outside in brood daylight with our dogs. It's been a week now since we lost the last birds and I think it's getting desperate. It's just too bad it developed a taste for chicken because there are plenty of mice, gophers, ground squirrels, rabbits and other animals around here for them to feed on. Not to mention it's fledgling season.

Our silkie roosters has been looking after the broody chicks since Ginger's two chicks were orphaned and the buff orp broody basically decided that her's was grown.

good early evening,

there are 4 quail in the bottom of the bator now. there were 10 eggs.

I got the other whacker going today. couldn't adjust the carb because the gas cap is cracked and there was gas flying everywhere. but it did run at half choke.

I let the young pullets loose early today. they sure don't take long to learn what free ranging is all about.

got another goose egg today, it will be going into the bator when I am sure all the quail are done hatching.
#5 is pipped.

it will take one blackberry plant awhile to spread into a patch. we started out with a couple dozen wild ones dug up from along the road and planted along the driveway. our son was in jr high. he is 54 now.

I will make some wine,, and lots of jam. we don't get crops like this every year . we don't have this crop yer, either. just the potential.

speaking of crops. I mowed about a third of the lawn after supper.

there was a ton of small branches on the ground in amongst the nut trees. I don't stop for anything an inch in diameter or less. as long as they are dried up.
