Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,

the surgery went well . Dr gave me 102 blasts with the "laser needle".
this was my 3rd surgery.
they always say that it is painless. I suppose it is ,,,,for the Dr. as long as he keeps his fingers out of the way..

for awhile afterwards, I felt OK.. then an hour later the drugs wore off and wham !! I was in real pain..
I sat with an ice bag on my eye for a couple of hours.
got the pain down to tolerable and went to bed.
this morning it is just mildly irritating ..

I am going to work on the siding and roof today if it isn't too cold outside.. the eye isn't going to hurt any differently if I work or sit around doing nothing..

that salmon sounds good.
I like mine baked.
my nephew lives a half a block from Lake Michigan.
he keeps us supplied with salmon..
I was at my sister's house and she baked one of his caught salmon. she didn't think there was enough , so she bought a piece of salmon from a local fish store..
Let me tell you,, there is no comparison. the fresh caught salmon beat out the competition, hands down..

I never ate any home made canned salmon. but I always liked the crunchy soft bones in the boughten canned salmon.

after one day of only 4 eggs, the hens are back up to 8..

Jim, your are going to like those Sagitta's. I have 6 Sagitta hens in my flock of 12; the other 6 hens are egg layer hybrids (3 blacks and 3 browns from the same hatchery). I have been getting 10 + eggs for the last year. Those Sagitta hens are bowling balls with legs. When they hop down from the roost (3 foot off the ground) you really know it. I got 4 roos in my straight run order and butchered them at 15 weeks. Dressed weight over 5 pounds. My parents got one and my dad is asking for more. :)

I think it was this thread that someone was talking about making a hoop greenhouse. FYI, they now make a 5 way connector for PVC. They are called furniture grade - not for plumbing but would be pretty good for hoop-house building. The 5th connection would be great for a winter support. Not too expensive - search the internet for 5-way PVC fitting.

wyoD ,
I hatched some Sagita eggs for Jason. He said I could keep half of them for my effort.

The eggs I set were LARGE , to say the least.
they barely fit into the normal egg setting trays..
Of the ones I am raising, there is one that looks like a buff orpington. and one is sort of on the whitish color.

they are growing nicely, and I think 10 or 12 of them will make it to our thanksgiving feast..
one of my bucket list items is to cook a bunch of individual chickens for thanksgiving.
I put it off too long last year.. this year it will happen..

I raised one buff orpington and one barred rock pullets.
they should be starting to lay right about now as well as the 6 POL black productions I bought.
we are getting 8 eggs a day, and yesterday there was a pullet sized egg, so maybe we will be going up to 9..

my eye hurts this morning.
but this weather is not going to hold out forever, so I have to get back onto the roof and finish that chimney cover.
I have all the pieces cut and ready, just have to nail it all together up there.

Tearing down the garden today. Got the posts pulled and the last of the carrots and beets dug. Let the silkies and frizzles free range for a couple of hours while I was working on the garden. They were in heaven once they settled into it. Tomorrow I will let the other chickens have a turn.

i will not be going to Hutchinson, I hope you get what you want/need.. I don't need any more birds with winter coming.

I am willing to let anyone dig my potatoes for half the crop.

we are digging the first row on a need for supper basis.
if the rest of the 4 rows are as good as this first row, there will be some bountiful harvest ..

the rooster was out early this morning, we just chased him and two of his favorites back into the coop.

football,,,,,Badgers tonight,,,,,,,,,,Packers tomorrow......

Got the game on, although I am not keeping a close eye on it. I peeled, cored, and sliced apples this morning and got them in the dehydrator for making apple chips. They are cooling off now before I pack them up. We had some delicious homemade chicken soup for lunch today and homemade pizza for supper. Used a lot of veggies in both. Used some turkey sausage that was made up earlier this week on the pizza. I am full tonight!
