Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ensure your housing is up to snuff to protect your flock. 4x8 foot screened -in-run and a 4x4 foot critter-proof coop for up to 3 hens. The more the room, the better. Though you might get ready-made ones, the joy in building one of your own is special. Few useful tips you will find in this article https://www.thespruce.com/building-a-chicken-coop-3016589.

Keep your coop elevated 2 to 3 feet off ground, seek shade, keep the inside illuminated, feather the nest, utilise predator-proof hardware and use safe outdoor space.

Having vinyl siding has many benefits like eliminating the hassle and expense of repainting paying an outsider to do it.Along with saving money, it saves work too. But not all vinyl is same and you have to be extra careful while picking a quality product. Usually PVC includes a number of additives. Check for vinyl siding standards. Every time you replace windows and doors, check for services in Edmonton who are reliable and competent and get them installed properly.

Treated wood would ensure no rotting but nailing may lead to leak and corroding. Some prefer applying peel & stick before installing windows. Check for wrap f the opening first.

Treating wood would make them weather-proof, insect-proof and resistant to rot.Framing with treated lumber is very good. But ascertain the effectiveness, longevity, and toxicity issues.

Edmonton? Like in Canada?

My 9 chickens are getting a 10x8 coop. They aren't getting a standard looking run...more like a weird shaped circle that is 25x41 with some huge arborvitae in there for shade. Top will be covered with bird netting...maybe. Fence will be 7 feet tall...first fence is field fencing and second fence attached to the field fencing will be deer fence. If they get over that 7' fence, then I'll add the bird netting

They won't fly over 7' if they are standard large fowl. I prefer windows on 3 sides to allow summer breezes to cool the coop. Cross ventilation really makes a difference....they can become hot boxes without it...in my opinion.
Good to read all is good by everyone.
Welcome to the newbies on the thread.
Canning sweet corn today....really nice stuff from our farmer we always buy it from...$3.25 a doz...I can't grow it for that. He also sells to all the grocery stores in the nearby towns.

Our pet chicken died yesterday. Matilda was the most friendly of the flock, always ready to be picked up, always willing to take treats out of your hand, always standing on my foot when I went to feed them (she got to sample the feed right out of the bucket when she would stand on my foot), came running when I called. The prettiest one also.

I am not sure what she died from. She had been lethargic for the past week or so; and then Wednesday when I picked her up a lot of liquid come out of her mouth. Her crop felt empty and I noticed she had lost a lot of weight. Very similar to the chicken I lost a while ago.

good morning,
hectic day around here yesterday.
everybody except me had dr appts.
quite a juggling act with transportation..

I sold 3 hens. I have no idea of what I have left.
it is supposed to be 5 roosters and 5 hens.
I have not had a chance to see them all together to count.

another busy day shaping up.
I have to get my butt in gear and get that slab
poured while the weather is somewhat cooler.

I agree , windows on all sides, better cross breezes no matter which way the wind blows.

these cool temps really makes for nice sleeping with the windows open and a heavy quilt to keep warm.. sure beats the heck out of AC..

I have 2 buff brahma bantam roosters. They need a good home. I have only 9 hens and three roosters. Three is too many. I will only keep one. The whiteone is quiet and sweet. He does not like being picked up (he doesn't want any of his feathers messed up) Lol. Very calm though. I have never been a attacked by him. The red one has attacked my feet several times. He has his good days and bad days. I hope that some one will give him a second chance, that a new flock and home will change his attitude. I would feel very bad if they were to be processed. They were my baby boys when they were chicks and they still are. They just turned 2 years old this month.

good afternoon,\
the day is slipping away and I have accomplished nothing.\
there is still some time left so I will go out and start making the forms for the concrete slab.\
I sketched up the stud walls that I will have to build. I have a pretty good idea of how much lumber I have to buy.

I think I found a taker for the rest of my chickens and roosters. now all he has to do is show up. He is going to take them directly to the processor near Mosinee..

it is kind of late to be thinking of project chickens for 4H for this year, isn't it ?

And the battle for a home continues.....

The people who own the 14 acres keep going on vacation.... so progress is slow. As our previous offer was doa due to no response from them because they were out of communication; we have put in another bid.

We are also eying up another place. Only 5 acres but the house will work. It was built in the 70's and was never touched, so it is a time capsule.

I kicked butt today. Got my mushroom area finished which was a complete overhaul. Cleaned part of the garage. Got a couple loads of junk hauled away. Weeded the biggest flower bed in the yard. And.....I got my first egg out of one of the pullets I bought this spring.
