Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Congrats on selling the house bl4. Now you can focus on the new place. Nothing new here....weighed one of my squash today for the heck of it....17 lbs and I even washed the dirt off first. I hope we have a little snow for Christmas...then it can melt and not come back... :barnie

The sun came out and melted most of the overnight snow and now we wait for the next round to begin. The girls finally got brave enough to come out and explore the "new stuff". But not for long.

still not enough snow to stick on the ground.
that's OK with me.

I got the saw all adjusted. got the run out from .1" down to .02" . I can live with that

I cut out an oak sill and got it fit into the opening. I have 3 more to do.
Annie found a can of fruitwood minwax varnish in the basement. It has to be old, but it still seems liquid. I haven't opened the can yet to see if the pigment separated.

Spent the whole cold day basically outside at a local gun club. My DD was taking her "final exam" at the Hunter Safety Field Day. Passed with flying colors. Now I need to go get my small game license so I can take her squirrel hunting. I think I ended up with a cold.

I would think any .22 would be good for a youth. They grow up fast and will be able to use the gun their whole life.(just a thought) I think a nice one for a lifetime of enjoyment and memories should be considered. I have both my grandpa's Remington single shot tack driver, that I have enjoyed for over 40 years, as well as my fathers Remington auto with scope, that I've enjoyed over 20 years....they are worth what you pay, and the memories are for sure a priceless place in my mind...especially with all the history I remember with them...just sayin is all.

We mowed the lawn today...... the entire thing. Three push mowers, completed in 3 hours. Not too bad!

Word is out that we are selling our house to the local Chief of Police...... nothing moves faster than news in a small town....

The real estate agent held an open house today, had 6 families walk through..... so if this falls though (which I doubt) there are potentials.

Next project: massive garage/shop for the hubs. :)

when we were kids, we didn't have any money.
cheap single shot .22's is what we learned on. I held about three shots in my dry lips and could load and shoot accurately as fast as my friend could with a bolt action.
when I was in the 8th grade, I bought a remington bolt action for $26.00 if I remember right. No adult was along with me. I bought the gun with a cloth case and carried it through downtown Wausau and 2 miles to home.
I still have that gun. never had a lick of trouble with it.
when I was in 7th grade, Gary W and I brought our 22's to school with us. after school we went to the YMCA for shooting instructions.
the nuns knew we had the guns there.
we put them in the "cloak room" and didn't show them off to anyone.
do you think we could get away with that now adays ?

I chickened out this afternoon. it never got out of the 20's. but after dark, right now, it is 40F .

maybe tomorrow I can get something done.
I discovered that there is not really much wood to screw my sill support onto.
Plan B dictates that I will have to get some shorter wood screws and some glue.

we had a 22 single shot that was about 24 inches long, including the stock.
the neighbors gave it to my brother.
it was just about all worn out.
once it was cocked, it sometimes went off by itself. you could make it shoot just by slapping the stock. I still had it after my kids were born.. I took the bolt out and never put it in again.

btw don't get a lever action for a deer rifle for a kid.. some adults shouldn't use one either. very dangerous gun..

Appreciate the stories and the info, Jim. I would prefer to get her a bolt action. Called our local gun/bait shop yesterday and they have one there for only $368.00 for a .22!!!! I love that little girl, but......
