My Grandpas single shot Remington is a Target Master 510...he dusted squirrels with only head shots. Me and grandma and grampa would drive around the country and spot them on the ground...a simple stop the car and a chase up the tree and that was that....it was back in the 60's before all the laws we have now. Granpa told me he paid $7.50 for the gun at the hardware store....a lot of money in the 40's.
Yep Jim, we always took our guns to school for hunting as soon as the bell rang....we never even had any stupid thoughts of misuse back then....none of us had a phone either....just part times jobs for money to buy the things we needed...I worked at a grocery store and all my friends worked at the different gas stations like clark, phillips 66, shell, standard oil, citgo, Texaco and the dinasour one...hard to believe they all had full service garages with folks that could actually fix things...just sayin.

I wasn't into hunting in school, but I remember lots of kids bringing their guns to school. Can't remember why, but I think FFA or something actually asked them to bring them in once in a while. Today things are crazy. One reason I want my daughter to know how to handle a gun. Unfortunately the day will probably come that she needs to defend herself.

sadly true.

the window trimming is going to be slow for the next couple of days. other things need doing.
the need for self protection with a gun is very remote. and when the need arises. the odds of your having a gun handy is just about as remote.

I just figured out why some words are printed in blue in some of these posts.
they are key words for spam. just hover your arrow over them and read the ads.

I am getting lots of pop ups lately, something that I haven't had until Google Chrome "upgraded" our service.

to get rid of the pop ups in Chrome;
click on customize (if you don't remember, it's the 3 dots in the upper right) click on settings, scroll down to advanced and click, scroll down to security and privacy, toward the bottom you'll see content settings, click on the arrow and locate pop ups and click on it to turn on/off the pop up blocker.

Membership status has nothing to do with pop-up ads, it is the browser settings.

Home inspection set for the 9th. Only item I can think of is a lack of a railing on the stairs..... everything else should be fine.

Thinking the one black walnut closest to the house has got to go..... I would like to use the deck without fear of getting knocked out by a stray nut! I would like to save the wood and build a mantel for the fireplace with a big chunk of it..... not sure what to do with the rest though.......

I have a whole grove of black walnut trees.. there are about 80 of them left of the 100 we planted.
plus we have 3 next to the house.
nobody has been konked by one yet.
usually the squirrels get them first.
this year there are so many the squirrels can't keep up.
what is treacherous is stepping on one and twisting your ankle.
I was wondering if I took a bunch of the outer husks and soaking them in paint thinner, if I could make a usable stain ??

If you are intent on cutting the tree down, get the boards cut into 5/4 thickness. no less than 4/4 ..
the waste makes very good firewood.

I have to trim some large branches off of one of the old trees next to the house.. If that doesn't rejuvenate the tree, I will take the whole tree down.

Unfortunately there are so many walnut trees in the yard the squirrels cannot keep up with the supply......

We might be able to get away with a trim only..... I have not made up my mind yet.
