In regards to chicks consuming layer feed, it's best to wait till the onset of lay or 16 weeks old before they start to consume the additional calcium in the layer feed they don't need....I personally don't feed layer until then and have longevity in my flocks, with old hens over 7 years still laying eggs. Not saying that is why, but saying healthy birds will live and lay longer than stressed birds....in my opinion.

yep, what bigZ said about layer feed..
with a general good diet, they can even lay without layer feed..
Wyo, I fill baggies with sphagnum moss and wrap the baggie around any branch that I want to air layer.
I fill the baggies and then seal them air tight with some tape. then I split the baggie with a blade and open it up like a baked potato. wrap it around the branch,
squeeze it closed and tape the cut shut with tape .. the tape makes it air tight around the branch, then I encase the baggie in aluminum foil. that makes it totally dark inside. I tape the foil to the branch so it can't spin or slide. then I wait for at least 8 weeks to check if I have any roots forming.. If there are roots, I cut the whole branch off below the baggie and plant it into a pot.. after the roots grow a lot more, it is ready to plant directly into the ground outside..

I got this sweet wagon today at the auction in town. I stuck around for a lawyers bookcase but at the last minute, decided I needed the wagon. I get a little carried away at auctions. I set a limit of $70 before I started bidding. I bought it for $235. But I love it.

I just think it's so neat. I walked by it like 3 times and didn't even notice it. One of the guys there was a dealer and he said that it was a good buy. That made me feel a little better about getting carried away. I didn't buy the bookcase. That went for $550. I like the wagon better anyway. There's another auction next weekend.

If you really love it, it is a good buy at any price..
I don't go to auctions much any more.
I was at one about 50 years ago .
they were auctioning off a solid oak 4 drawer dresser with a mirror and a matching real tall carved head board for a bed.
we wanted it. as it turned out, the lady standing right in front of me did too.
she had on a cap that was fuzzy like long rabbit fur. I was so close that once in awhile my nose got tickled.
she bid, and I bid. she kept looking around and asking her companion where the other bidder was ?? I could hear everything she said.. I even heard her start to falter on the bidding.. LOL
I bought the set for $75.oo.. we still use it..
some day I will tell you about how my sister bought a huge house at auction.
one she could not afford. but managed to get financing anyhow..
I always liked the one about the auctioneer saying, "SOLD to the lady whose husband has her in a bear hug and his hand over her mouth"
