Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning after the storm,
midnight, wind , rain and small hail.
knocked down a pine tree from our wind break and took the tops off of two others.

what kind of dial is that on the front of the canister ? pressure, heat or volume ??
If volume, then I vote kerosene container, too..

No storms here overnight, but we appear to be on the edge of one now. Picked up 50 meat chickens today. Last year I had a broody hen that I gave 25 meat chickens to. She did an awesome job! No such luck this year.

Did you pick up chicks for raising cherMoz? We did 2 gallons of pickles today, and a couple quarts of stewed tomatoes....the maters are ripening fast now, so salsa will be the next thing we process. I'll be giving away extra cukes now, we have plenty of those left over from last year. I should make relish, but we still have enough for another year too. Venzun cheesburgers on the grill tonight...one of my favorites!

My tomatoes are still green and growing. Looking good and with luck I will be able to get some canned up this year.
Finished canning cherries - cherry pie filling, cherry bbq sauce, Danish Cherry sauce and spirited cherries. I have a couple bags of cherries in the freezer that I should so something with, maybe a batch of Black Forest Jam - chocolate & cherries, what could be better?
My heritage apples are ripe - NOW! I have about a week to get canned what I want before they are over-ripe. No-one knows what type they are, but they are an early season apple that's for sure. I think they may be a cider apple. Only good for applesauce, they are lousy in pie filling - maybe apple juice, but I haven't tried making that yet. DH needs to make me an apple press. :)

one of my apple trees has lots of apples. the other one has none.. weird, they are both growing out of the same stump..
it is a beeyoutifull day in wisconsin..
going to get hot later on.
last night the sunset was neat. the smoke from the wildfire in Canada obscured the sun so it was just a large ball with no rays.

My apple tree was started from an apple dropped in the yard. it grew for a few years as a multistemmed bush. I didn't know what it was, but I mowed around it because it was green and we had no trees on the place.
then one day Annie told me it was an apple "tree". so I trimmed out a ton of shoots and left a few. planning on cutting out the weaker ones later and letting the strongest survive . so after a few years there were 3 trunks. each of them bearing apples. so I let them all go. we ended up with two different kinds of apples. both very nice pie apples.. the tree is about 50 years old and really not in the best shape.
I have never sprayed it for bugs or anything. never had any worms in any of the apples.. I think what helped that was the chickens. if an apple hit the ground the chickens would quickly eat it. so there was never any clutter under the tree of rotting apples.. ???

good morning,
I just came in from outside, coffee is brewing
I weeded and staked the three established grapes and tied them up.
we could smell the smoke from the Canadian wild fires all night.

Hey all.
I still have at least 10 old layers for sale for butcher or eggs. A few have picked up laying again.
Various breeds, around 2 yrs old.
