Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good to hear that some young folks do indeed like to cook....better food, less cost, why not?
Bl4 will prolly chime in, but my guess is that those are the blue canning jars?
Split about 1 1/2 cords today...all tossed in the basement for Winter use...I have about 15 face cords in the basement...that should last all Winter with some wood leftover.

Bingo, blue canning jars. My best canning jars are my old ones we have picked up at auctions. I bought new ones a few years ago and lost 4 jars in the canner; the bottoms broke out of the new jars. Some of the jars I have are over 100 years old......

Yep, we have a lot of the older jars also... and even some jars that commercial pork hocks came in back in the fifties...really heavy quart jars. Id have to take a count of the really old blue jars we have....a lot....collecting them from the grandmas when they had to give up canning.

Annie likes saurkraut, I am not a big fan of it
I believe that the kraut should be rinsed before cooking it.
with some of the meds I take, I am not allowed to eat much cabbage anyhow..
I like boiled cabbage in what Annie calls boiled dinner.. I eat it despite the "no no"
we have a book about pricing old canning jars. there are not very many worth anything more than a couple of dollars..
My dad used to make kraut in a large crock. I liked it when it was about half done..not real sour yet..
I love Kim chi ..

All 3 of my kids know how to cook. when they were in middle school and high school, we all each took a turn during the week making supper.. had some very "interesting" meals sometimes..
the youngest daughter always made mac&cheese with hot dogs on the side...
......jiminwisc.......

I like sour kraut. But only make it a couple of ways: Country-Style Spareribs with Kraut and Brown sugar; Ruben Sandwiches.

Out of 5 kids, us 3 older kids all learned how to cook from my mom - it was a big help when she died from cancer when I was 10. We took turns making supper while she was sick and until my Dad remarried. My oldest sister almost always made Kraft Mac & Cheese with hot dogs on the side, lol. When I would "Help" her out by taking over, then we would get something more substantial. Dad always wanted his meat and potatoes for supper, with a veg and slice of bread. and a DESSERT! We always had a baked good for dessert: cake, bars, cookies. My dad has quite the sweet tooth - funny though, he never eats candy, just baked goods.

Hope all you Cheeseheads who are getting this WINTERY MIX stay safe!

This morning I woke up to the dog puking alllll over the bedroom. Then I went downstairs and puttered around a bit...and noticed that one of the kids' backpacks was hanging up. He was still in bed upstairs! Man, to be 11. The other three all got up and got on the bus, business as usual, and I didn't even know that he was home. What a dork. Needless to say, I drove his butt to school. And now he owes me $5. $3 for driving him, and $2 for opening up the chickens, because it's his week to do it.
