Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Got snow? The driveway is cleared one more time today.....sounds like it won't be the last time this week either. These temps are better on the birds and the pullets continue to lay every day without additional light. It's also much better for collecting eggs....they aren't in danger of freezing with these temps, so I can collect twice a day with no worries.

Have Fun …. bigz

Supposed to get 6-11 inches through Tuesday here. We had less than an inch last night. I too would much rather have snow than a polar vortex!

Count me 3. Snow isn't too bad at above zero.

Welp, lined up eggs for the kiddos at the elementary school. I wanted to get them some white eggs to make viewing by candling easier for them, so have arranged for some Exchequer leghorns. I've always wanted some of those beauties and they'll add a nice white egg to my rainbow basket, methinks. Depending on numbers, he may make up the difference with some rose-combed whites or CCLxLH blue laying hybrids. Either way, all eggs will be white, so it'll be fun showing the kiddos candling. I ordered a couple dozen to start them early with plans of moving them into the schoolroom day 3-4 once I can tell what is developing. I'm hoping for an average of 1/2 the eggs to show development for the kids, which would give 6 or so each room. I won't need that many for my flock, but rather too many than too few for the school bators. I want them to have a decent hatch.

Some show photos from the breeder. Pretty nice Exchequers, I think.

I looked into this place last year. I did not order anything, but it looks like a legitimate operation.
If you are going to order, don't delay, I know last year they sold out early..

Let’s see.... bees are going to cost $450 for two more hives, $350 for the bees themselves.

Calculated how much it would be to order chicks from that place (minimum order is 15), so with the variety I want that will run me approximately $160. Then I need a coop; there is one that I have been looking at that is mobile that will hold 18 birds (mobile coop does not require building permits), and is on sale for $1750 but with shipping will be over 2k.

What’s the lottery at right now????

Nope, I haven't had exchequers to this point, though I've almost purchased some several times. For various reasons, I've been thwarted. Hoping this attempt is successful. Eggs are purchased, time will tell if the incubation gods still look favorably upon me. :fl

I second the lottery notion, as well. Bring it! Good luck on your next step in the honey production world. I'm rooting for you...and the bees! :highfive:

Hey, Jim! :frow

I've not had any experience with Northwoods Poultry. I did get a tickle out of the tab when I went to their site. "Northwoos Poultry" Made me think of little furry chicks that woo instead of crow. :D
