Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Congrats on the bees & chicks!

Getting ready to do some hiking next week.
Looks like we will be bringing winter with us to the southwest.

Chicks are hatching under the 2 broodies.
We will see how they do with a long stretch of winter to go.

Good luck with the peeps kildare! Do you have a heat lamp for the peeps to eat and drink? I would think they will do fine if they can come and go when they like.
My pullets just keep laying every day no matter what the weather happens to be.

If I did not get an order in for chicks, my neighbors would have picked some up ay the local TSC...... :D

So, fingers crossed I get my Marans, Faverolles, and Ameraucanas....

Chilling today, still recovering from this bug.

Yep, just back in from the coop. Had to do some new wiring to set up brooder for cold weather.
My brahma's have never gone broody in winter months.
Guess the OE's & marans thought different.

Young Roo & winter, will see how the hatch rate goes.

Simply amazing how much added work the flock can create during the Winter months. Hope the broody women do a good job in this temps. You will have pullets laying before Fall for sure if all goes goodie.
Better get going on that coop bl4...being prepared will save a lot of stress... ;) I prefer to pay for a building and have it delivered to the site..... it takes so much time and running for materials when you build your own...I've done it both ways...just sayin

The January chicks are growing FAST. Split the crew to two cages for now. Was hoping to eek by on that until temps improve, but looking at the long range forecast, March is not coming in like a warm dandy lion. Ah well, I have a bajillion crates, if I need to expand my basement flock further. :fl

Good Sunday to all...race, race, race day today....love to watch the Daytona 500.
Yep Hurley it's nice to have all the cages, but a pain to deal with all the feeders and waterers and bedding kinda…… not a big deal, but more work it feels like sometimes. It's also nice to work with just a few birds in each cage for more attention to each one.

Gorgeous snow fall this afternoon/evening. I don't have to go to work tomorrow, so I can say that. :smackLOL The chickens took one look out the open door, said a whole bunch o' "NOPE!" and went back in the coop.

Gotta wing band the little chicks tonight or tomorrow, other than that just enjoying time with the fam. Have got Exchequer eggs coming this week to set for the kids at school. They're throwing in some Crested Legbar x Leghorn (CCL over Exchequer and White hens) for some blue egg layers, as well. Hope they have a gentle trip through the mail. The kids get so excited. (I'll set them the first week at home so I only take in ones showing development and if they all crap out, will grab some home/local eggs.)

Hope all are doing well!
