Hey guys! Just got back from work...yup I should be in bed...meeting BL4 tomorrow to get the calls and have coffee

Then to work again--hopefully I will have time to drop them off at home or they will be "cooking" with me!
H&R--told you those birds are messy! Seems like everyone had wet chicks this morning!
Jim I have to buy all my own feed too...and it's not organic. I cant get organic unless I go to Frank's...and then my feed bill would be twice what it is already! The article was also saying that there arent presently any controls or rules about labeling n any other way. The only one is that for free range the birds have to have access to "fresh air" for 5 whole minutes each day! Yup--I bet that makes them feel so much better!

down to 104 eggs out of 133. I'm good with that. Hey Jim why do you suppose those ones died? that late in the game? I know you said heat? guess I don't understand. too high of heat = grew TOO big? = got stuck/couldn't position to internally pip?

I got a 'bator that has some weird temp swings. like 97-102? I was hoping the 97 would off set the 102??? that's what the temps did last year???

time will tell. I'm not gonna mess with it now. ok I gotta hit the hay! night all!

I get UN medicated and that is good enough for me. Unless you can give me some REALLY good reason! and then apparentally I'd have to off my whole flock and start all over again. NOT! night

My friend is looking to cut back, he has 3 young horses, my arab gelding there (he is falling in love with him), a shetland, and his other QH.
He is the only one who rides on a semi regular basis. AND he is going to south america with the army reserves and just feels that 6 is enough, 7 is slightly too many.
Please let me know if you would be interested, Dill sat for 6+ yrs, half starved before he was rescued. But it also means he was not overly ridden in his teens, he is 19, in great shape,
super super well broke, he rides western or english, was a show horse, did dressage, 4H and
open shows. He is a registered QH.
Dillon is a little bit of a hard keeper, IE he needs to be blanketed in a rain sheet in the winter. He comes with his blanket, a light weight cotton sheet and his halter and lead rope. He had all his shots last year, he is due for his spring shots, and has his coggins from last year, but has not left the farm in the time he has been with my friend.
I ride him for my friend, he has ridden him, his son rode him, and his son has not been on a horse in a LOOONNNGG time and is a beginner.
My DH has been on him as well. He rides out alone or in a group. He is low horse on a totem pole.
He is 16.2 HH and just gorgeous.

Stan wants him to go to a good home, I promised the girl who helped rescue him that I would watch out for him, and ensure he went to a great home.

Now these first two pics were taken last march or there abouts, and he was still thin from being starved.

These were taken 2 weeks ago

And I think these were taken in Nov or Dec

He is ridden in a offset D-ring snaffle and I use a full QH Bar western on him, with a built up pad. The bridle and the saddle pad I have can go with him as well as his halter/lead and his blankets.

Stan would like some money for him, but I think a long term home is more important. I can work on him on that aspect...

evening all, got mom to go to bed at 10PM.. I fed her and then made her sit up rather than recline.. she cannot nap so well sitting up so then she feels tired enough to go to bed..

H&R this week should be super for sap run.. cold nights and warm days.. watch out for leaf buds.. they make the sap bitter.

Yeah Brent, those blue eggs are from my neighbor..(Brian).. of course, the color is lost on me,,, I am color blind.. LOL I could see colors quite a bit better before I lost my one eye.. that must have been my good eye..LOL Now my bad eye became my good eye, which really isn't that good..

got another goose egg from under the tarp on the hay pile.
getting to be almost a daily thing.. now maybe the rest of them will start laying.. this warm spell coming should shake them loose..

I always ave chicks die late in the game.. that is what I am trying to overcome..

If your bator swings from 80 to 110 and you get good hatches, stay with it..

WCC... Your killin' me here! He looks (and sounds) like a very good horse and it's been so long....

But we couldn't afford to keep him ourselves, even if we do have the room. I think you'll find him a good home!

Jvls.... hey, you blind in the left or right? I just see color and light out of my left... I can tell something is there, just haven't a clue as to what!( People like to sneak up on me on that side!)

Yea, saw the mites when I got home with them, 1 leg on 2 of the hens... weird. I wanted to wait a couple of days for them to settle down before I treated them. Got to powder them down and deworm them too... didn't see anything else, but not taking chances. Funny, they pretty much had run of the farm but weren't spoiled. They didn't even try the mash or the fresh veggies!

It's going to be very interesting trying to integrate the flocks, The new ones are older and a bit bigger than my first ones.

most of the reading I did talks more about introducing younger ones to older ones.

Well, I have a month to figure it out.

Glad the duckie is doing well... would a chicken apron help keep her warm 'till she gets more feathers?

Thanks Cind, but I have no idea how she would react to that! Right now she is nice and cozy in a wire dog crate in the livingroom

with a brooder light over her for warmth. Spoiled rotten but oh so cute! Whatever it is we are doing it seems to be the right thing. Her only annoyance now would be the dogs at cats. The cats have no idea how to hunt anything so they just check her out because she is different. The dogs on the other hand think we brought in dog tv.... the Boxer/Lab especially! Thankfully she is a good dog and listens to us.... and the duck is in a cage!

WCC you are killing me here......... I love horses.....

good morning, the coffee is prolly done, but I am down here in the basement and it is waaay upstairs..

for some reason the temp does not want to come down below 100 on the incubator.. I keepinching it down and nothing.. just you watch.. all of a sudden all those inchings will go all at once and I will be down to 96F..

I gotta figure out how to get the smileys to go where I want them to..,

got 5 goose eggs in the bator.. about 8 ducks, 4 turkeys , and 16 dozen chickens ..

I would love to have a horse.. but I could ever justify the cost of owning one.. I had beef cows for a couple of years, but I had to buy all my hay and feed.. that was such a hassle trying to find people who had hay for sale.. this was way before the internet or craigslist..

Cind, I can see light and shapes out of my right eye.. and that keeps getting worse by the month.. I have glaucoma so eventually my left eye will fail also.. I have a hell of a time driving at night.. I dread the day when I cannot drive at all.. I will be stuck at home,,, Maybe mom will lead me around..LOL

I wouldn't put a shirt on the duck.. I think the feathers will grow back faster if they are stimulated with a little coolness..
