ODrH; I incubated call duck eggs last year (that is how we ended up with Maggie), I just followed the same procedure as you do for chickens but misted the eggs once a day and left the top off the incubator for a 10-15 min stretch every day as well. Used the same turner and everything. I cannot imagine why the hatching procedure would be different from any other type of egg (except for the humidity of course).

Ugh, had too many glasses of wine tonite! The typos are numerous!!!!

My surgery is not major.. they are going to lazer some sort of weep holes to relieve the pressure in my eyes.. I have glaucoma. I have it but don't know how to spell it.. LOL

do not worry about how hard the shell is.. these birds have been hatching for thousands of years without our help.. I read somewhere that the shell actually becomes more pourous close to hatching.. and the egg is very easy to break from the inside compared to the outside..

Finally have development in 2 Call duck eggs in the 'bator, plus in a bunch of the Mille Fleur Cochin eggs!

So, I set another 2 call eggs tonight, and I have a batch of Hookbill and Stanbridge White eggs to go into the other 'bator in the morning.

We're all through being sick here, did some work on the Cochin breeding pens today to make it easier for the 12-year-old to feed them all.

I've never hatched Calls before either, but I'm not going to do anything different that what I do with all my duck eggs. No misting, no cooling - just turn on the 'bator, set them in the auto-turner and ignore them for a whole month, besides to add a little water to the 'bator once a week. If I fuss over them too much, I always end up messing something up!

We're going to look at a house we've been drooling over again (already saw it with the realtor once, and snuck in an unlocked door twice

) on Wednesday, and if we get the go-ahead from the mortgage company tomorrow, hopefully we'll be making an offer.

The messing around you do with duck eggs is a bit of a pain..... trust me, I did not monitor the time I kept the lid off; I would use that time to check the eggs for development though. I would just shine the flashlight down on top of the eggs to see if we still had movement.

So I am debating on whether or not I should sit in the Valley all day or just come home...... I am voting on coming home myself. I never get to just sit and veg anymore.

Good Crappy Morning All! Cindlady had to laugh at your take on the eggs. "Needs more bugs" That's a good one! Sweetfolly good luck on the house! Jim Good Luck with the surgery, hope it improves things for ya! Sounds like some of you sickos are coming around. Glad to hear it! Too tired to remember all that I read. Couldn't get to sleep last night thinking about flooding again. Yesterday a thought came to me while I was painting I didn't hear the sump kick in. Sure enough there was a chunk of crap caught in the float switch. Got it cleared and pumped and reinstalled the screen. Think I got about 3-4 hours of sleep listening for it to run. The ditch that runs next to the property is close to overflowing again, had a couple of million scenarios running through my head last night and early this AM. Think today will be a finish taping the bathroom day, washing the painted surfaces and watching the water rise. Would love to bulldose this place and build it right to end the worry. Need another cupper or maybe a beer or 10. And a nap.... Better go check the kids. Have a good one! Careful on those roads for the those are in the slick zone. bl4
