Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

That’s what we’re thinking. I think he’s jealous of me, since I feed the girls, water them etc. How will this affect the girls?
I have read here in forums hens without rooster, a hen will become alpha. Anyway true? ALpha hen leader?
Your hens will be fine. Like JV said they wont miss him.
Your rooster make soup. get a new one.

Not so fun in summer in shorts and have the rooster run behind and attack or to have children, visitors around a mean rooster.

My wife and daughter aslo help take care the chickens. mean rooster does not last long here.

Personally, I wouldn't be so fast to get rid of him. He's just watching out for his hens and if he doesn't hurt, you know, you can always kick him out of the way.
my rooster doesn't like me messing with my hens/His hens, and like this afternoon, I was in the coop, getting eggs, and there was a couple hens in there. Next thing I know I feel him bump the back of my leg. He's done that a few times. So As long as I know, he's looking out for his hens and we both are OK with this He's gonna stay but you'll have to decide what's best for you.
I've never felt claws or biting. if I did he'd be gone.

That rooster would be gone here. I dont tolerate any mean chickens, that could hurt anyone. Ive gotten rid of 3 for being overly aggressive. I am rehomed a cockerel to someone yesterday, he is only 12 weeks old and was to young to butcher. Plus he was super friendly.

The weather is unusual for Wisconsin. Usally its atleast hit -10 by now

I agree, there is a no-tolerance rule here as well. We've only had two that grew up to be horribly mean. One got a trip to the woods with me, and the other the neighbor farmer wanted him. She got a hoot out of watching a hot-headed little white silkie roo trying to hump her Brahmas. That was last fall and she still has him, and them.

Silkies are just too small IMO to bother with butchering and even though I helped my dad do 100s when I was a kid, it just didn't sound like anything I wanted to do again.
