Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Happy New Year! Winter has decided to make its appearanc, and we have a dusting of snow, and cloudy days in the high teens and mid 20’s. Girls are not liking being stuck in the run all day.
These silkies were all out today except for two of the frizzles. Too cold for them. I was surprised the silkies were out at all as it was cold with that wind.

We better enjoy this weekend coming up of mid-30s as the next one is going to be in the teens. Brrrr! I'm spoiled with how this winter has been so far.

I did butcher him, but after looking at how dark the meat was, and how tough it was, we tossed it.
Yeah, I get it. Some years back I had some older hens butchered. Not good.
Now when I had Henry butchered, months later I roasted him and filleted the breast meat off and made stock with the rest. Some day soon I'll make up chicken/veg noodle soup. :thumbsup

I did give them a choice, but they stayed on their shoveled walkway.

We have a path to the corner of the house and 7 of 14 took it, but then the path got covered and by dusk, 3 couldn't get back. We hadn't been out in it yet after dark, but heard a squawk and found 3 of them stuck and covered with 1/2" of snow. Picking chickens out of the snow was a new one to me.

I just saw my phone light up. A winter storm warning again for Friday morning 6 a.m. starts some more. Says 6-9" for here in Shawano County. I'm not letting them out in the morning as I don't want my ditzy silkies getting stuck in the snow again.

The problem with the wet heavy snow. Is it sticks to my satellite dish and my TV dish, And I've got to go and clean it off. Unfortunately they're both on top of the little barn I have. Fortunately, I figured out if I cleaned them off and sprayed some windshield deicer on them that that works really well.
Unfortunately for the chickens when I cleaned the poop board, today I forgot to open the pop door back up again to the run. So they're out there sleeping in the run on a cedar log I have propped up. Oh well, at least it'll be open tomorrow so they can go back-and-forth. And then they'll definitely be staying in for a while.
This afternoon my phone said ten to thirteen inches but we'll see
