Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

We had a lot of outages through Alliant as we have them to. Its normally during winter and spring right now we have a generator though that quicks on quick. Before it took forever for pur router
We actually can't complain here about them as it is very rare for us to be out. We did fire up the generator though when they said it would be a few hours.

They said a raccoon got fried at the next place down the road. They're the ones that own the feed mill so go figure lol. It's back on for good now I hope!

Glad powers back on.
Storms use to knock us out in the summer to but all the lines have been replaced now.
We havent been out since they replaced the lines over the summer. So hopefully a good thing

Good Morning. I have been nosing on this thread off and on since someone notified me this WI thread existed. :love

Sometimes it gets tough asking questions on the main page when people do not live in our climate and cannot relate to the struggles of the COLD---REAL COLD.

My name is Renee. I live about 30 min west of Wausau with my fiance. My children are grown and in college and I needed a hobby. In spring I hatched out some ducklings from a neighbor and she also gave me 2 goslings to raise. I have 6 ducks and 1 distinguished gentleman drake. A pair of geese who I adore. They have such personality and WOW are they BOSSY! We also have 2 French Bulldogs, who have learned to stay clear of the geese. :lau

Just getting things ready for winter at this point. They had the run of 5 acres all summer but now I fenced in a 150x150ft area for them for winter. They are adjusting and not happy so hopefully they get used to it. I don't do well with pouting ducks. :(

I am hoping to help when I can and get help from this thread.

Hope you all have a great day!
Renee

welcome Renee,
I am closer to Wausau. about 10minutes west.
don't be shy about asking questions. or giving your advice.
we are not mainstream byc'ers. we are friendly.
you have probably noticed that we do not limit our talk to just chickens and ducks.
for instance, i am in the middle of making blackberry wine. i have a 5gal batch ready for bottling as of yesterday. i started another batch on nov2.
i gave up all animals and birds a couple of years ago. so all i can report on is what projects i am in to.
lots of people have come and gone from this thread. bigzeo started it a long time ago. i guess i am the longest lasting person on here. there are lurkers. i wish they would check in.

X'2 Renee, welcome to the cheeseheads!
Good luck with the poultry. I think Jim has mentioned
in the past to watch out for frozen feet with ducks during
cold winter weather.
Hard molt continues here and with older hens, I
prolly won't see any eggs until the longer days of springtime
weather.

Stay Safe ... bigz

OOOO sounds delish! I do not have many hobbies yet. Just trying to figure out my life without all the sports/choir ect of the kids. It has been a struggle the past few months with my son leaving for Oshkosh. My daughter has been at school in LaCrosse for a couple years already. I do work 2 jobs outside of the house- daytime is working in the Ag field (we install milking equipment, I am in the office) and a few nights a week I work at a small local tavern. Mainly for extra fun money. :idunno

Hello!
I thought the ducks slowed up on the egg laying until I cleaned out their hut this weekend and found someone was hiding 8 eggs under the straw. EIGHT EGGS!!!!!!!!!! I would just cry if I had to raise 8 ducklings in winter. LOL! I raised mine in spring IN THE HOUSE! What a mess!!!! I would rather not deal with that again.

Hi, Renee! :frow

We're retired, and about 50 miles east of Wausau, in the sticks of Shawano County. We have lots of pets and raise/breed silkie chickens.

Glad to have you aboard!!
