Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

afternoon all, Well the brooders are beginning to smell, How often do you guys clean them, I just fluffed up the wood chips. The chicks are all fine and really look like they are growing, all except Bianca, She is a good 2 inches smaller than her incubator mates. Not sure what is up, she is more active, eating, but just small. Any ideas? I ordered back yard poultry the other day. My neighbor has been lending me hers. I hope I get new issues.

Hi all...anybody want some dogs??? My DD25 let them out of their kennels today and went back to work (without locking them up) and they got into the chick TV! Of course my 2 favorites are gone! I think they ate about 6 or so...I am so ticked! I think I will make dog for supper...anybody know what it tastes like? (chicken?--bad joke! Sorry)
So it couldnt decide what to do today; Rain? Sun? Wind? We had it all. It was pretty humid too, when I was walking the Deerfield dog she was really panting and hanging behind.
So I am making some country style ribs for supper, sweet potatoes (69 cents a pound!) and broccoli and cauliflower with Hollandaise sauce. Cant wait--I am very hungry!
I found 2 of the chicks in the coop from last night and reunited them with their original Mom--there was one other one that I thought might be hers but the coop Mom said, "NO--YOU ARE NOT TAKING THAT CHICK!" So I let it be.

BBC--how far was the pigeon from home and how did it end up by you? That is neat that the person wants it back. The one I got they didnt want so I guess that is why he is still here! Guess he wont be a great foundation for my racing pigeon flock!

David--Of course the Chows want to take a walk...they have really heavy coats! (take your umbrella) I would say if the brooders are stinkin' it's time to clean 'em!!! I do mine when the fam starts complaining...but idealy they shouldnt be in any kind of wet stuff.

MLH--that is a pretty extensive garden you have planned. If you want any help planning and stuff send me a PM. I can tell you about that failed potato experiment from last year....(but I might try it again!)
Winston is just adorable! What a cute expression!

Way to get a day off Shanti! Funny that the power went on right away...I hope you were out of the building!

Well supper is about ready...gotta make that sauce! Later! Terri O

Wow, hard to keep up around here w/all the posts. Sorry to hear the weather continues to be lousy.

Nice to see all the pics of babies and hear they are doing well.

TO, sorry about your dog/chick incident, that sucks.

Shanti, got a good chuckle out of the image of you trying to round up those naughty ducks!

We FINALLY got word this evening that the board approved the loan for our house. Tomorrow we are going to try to move up the closing date and hopefully be there before the end of next month. We are both SO ready to be out of Florida. Although the way the weather sounds right now I might have a hard time adjusting ... it's was a record high here today and humid as can be. Think I might find WI just a little chilly when I first get there, but I'll manage

before you let him take the pigeon, I want some fertile eggs from it..

that is one smart homing pigeon.. fly away, and wait for a ride home.. LOL

wasn't that pigeon from out of state?

.........jiminwisc............

This morning I emailed someone who had a website that offered help for locating the owners of lost pigeons. He used the numbers on the leg band to figure out who's bird it was. He gave me the guy's name and number (with a TN area code) and said the owner was from Tennessee. So I left him a Voicemail. He calls back and says he's from Colfax - about 50 miles away! So he'll be here tomorrow. I'll have to ask him if he just moved up here or something. I was kind of hoping he didn't want her, so I could keep her. He was training her, I guess, and he said she got way off course.

Hi all. I´ve been gone for a bit because my computer died on me! Not a good thing...I job hunt and run Cream City Hens from that computer. I put together a really old crappy desktop that is running horribly and driving me insane but itś getting the job done--except for allowing me to access all of my old files. Itś nice, though, because I have it hooked up to my tv so my monitor is 42¨.

Just re-candled my remaining 17 eggs about fifteen minutes ago. I have eleven left, including several Marans and a few EEś, then some of Terryś barnyard specials so Iḿ excited! Iḿ betting the kids are going to love them when I take them into the school next week, along with my big girls. I did two events last week, one in a library and another was a podcast, and the girls were filthy from the rain...so I gave them both baths. I can´t believe I bathed a chicken, but I did! And then I made them chicken diapers because they were both indoor events! They spent a few days with me before going back to their usual home (the events were three days apart), and ended up having to stay indoors with me because there was a stray dog trying itś da*ndest to get into the small run I have here, and frankly I don´t trust the sturdiness of it, because itś not meant to be predator proof. My son is unfortunately allergic, so we had a lot of open windows and he had to take a few doses of his inhaler.

Lockdown for the incubator is on Friday, so the kids and I are really looking forward to seeing some babies! That reminds me that I have to find my video camera so I can share the event with the kindergarteners, and maybe on our Cream City Hens website, too. Itś kinda a bummer that I didn´t start this a week earlier because this week is spring break for my daughter, and we could have had a blast with the chicks. Oh, well.

Anyway, hope everyone is well! The kids and I are looking forward to a Brewers game tomorrow, and the zoo on Friday, so we´re having a fun-packed week!

BCC, are you swimming yet???? Holy cow the fields are flooded!!!!!!!!! This rain is crazy!!!!

TO; your DD needs a swift kick in the you-know-what. And then go destroy something she loves......

The other two ducks have quit laying eggs under Jules, and she is being a good mamma sitting on those eggs. I feed her mealworms and earthworms for treats while she is sitting there so nicely...... I'll have to post some pics of my poor bald mamma duck at some point.....

Oh I want to move so much!!! It is hard trying to live in such a small house on such a small lot with the six of us!!! I envy all of you who are able to have your chickens and plant your gardens........

I wish the housing market would pick up a bit so we could get the heck out of Dodge.

Very cool story on the pigeon; it would be even funnier if it came back again!

KD, good luck with your hatch! I cannot wait to see the pics of the chicks!

So not looking forward to another drive on 41 tomorrow.... that road construction makes things so much worse! Good thing my boss does not care if I am late!

Cold chilly afternoon to all. Wow, the clouds are wild above me right now and whipping in various directions.

Easter hatch chicks are doing well. Completely miffed at the house getting hot right in the middle of them hatching. NOTHING hatched after it got warm. Had to end up cracking the incubators just to get them to not overheat. Ended up with only 1 chick from my Ameraucana split to fuzzy eggs. I've been bummed for a couple days with the crappy outcome. The hatch started out like gangbusters until that time. Grrr.

Well, the other incubator with a 2nd dozen Ameraucana fuzzy split eggs was concurrently incubating along with a handful of Welsh Harlequin ducks. That incubator tried to spike, too, and had to spend a day cracked open just to keep temps under 102 degrees. After the abysmal end to my hatch I figured the 2nd dozen for goners as well. Came home just now to 2 blue chicks out and running around, 1 more pipped at least. So stinking happy to have not lost them all! If I only get a small handful, I'll be delighted.

Thinking good hatching vibes for them.

On that note, my cabinet incubator arrived today, so looking forward to unpacking that and checking it over. Think I'll relegate the styrofoam incubators to backups/hatchers. Hopefully the new one will be a bit less temperamental.

Submitted my certification paperwork to be a pullorum tester, looking forward to testing out my flock later this summer once the non-NPIP obtained animals are over 4 months. Then just need to order the forms and antigen and go to town.
