I wanted to pick up one more hen and there is a local lady who is offering me two for $25 (hopefully she will sell just one.) The are buff orpingtons that started laying about two months ago, I think she said. Is this a fair price? I read that this breed is broody and medium layer, but otherwise has the traits of quiet and docile which I want. What do you think?

I don't know what you mean by "medium layer".. Egg size? or number of eggs.. I had a bunch of them one time and they were prolific layers. and the eggs were at least Large.. and one or two days when it was minus 20F I had 100% lay an egg..
18 chickens..

they are quiet natured and do go broody, some even in their first year of egg laying..

the price is not too outrageous.. If you are buying them to sell eggs, it will take a long time to offset the cost of the bird.. If you want the chicken just for the sake of wanting the chicken it is a good price..

at any rate, try to make her come down. $$$$

Amyable-What cute babies! Makes me want more. I so do not need anymore chickens til I get rid of some of the others I have floating around here (anyone want some French Black Copper Marans cockerels?

) Too bad DH ordered a little Brinsea for me for my B-day, hehehe...

Dooner-I love my Buff Orpingtons! Our chickens are mainly for pets and eggs, and these little girls are some of the friendliest birds we have. Definitely talk the lady down if you can though.

So here's a question. Does anybody have much experience with BB Bronze turkeys? I have 5, probably 2-3 months old and want to find out what's a girl and what's a boy. Does anyone know how to tell? I want to keep 2 toms for myself and sell the rest, but can't tell who's who.

We're hoping to make it to the bash this year. Fordmommy told me about last year's and I think it would be neat to put a face to all of the names on here. Plus my DD5 really wants to go too. Maybe just because it's called a "bash".

Thanks, I paid $8 each for the production ones. I say Medium because that is the term that is used on this site in the breed index. They rate the frequency of laying which is medium for BO and then they rate the size and they state Large for BO. Thanks for the information.

Welcome

! We have BB Bronze that our kids raise for 4-H, this is our 2nd year having turkeys and it seems that the for sure way to tell is when they start to gobble. We got ours in March and our fair is July and we probably knew by mid June. I know that this probably wasn't what you were hoping to hear- maybe someone else will have some information for you.

The vote for changing the hen ordinance is on Tuesday. *gulp* *crosses fingers*

If you´d like to come down again Dooner, feel free! It was great to meet you!

Hi Everyone,

Well the wyandottes are 1 month old. They have grown so much , I think they are ready to go out in the coop this weekend.
wyandottes.jpg

they have feathered out nicely and are getting their combs

The golden comets are a lot friendlier. I have one that pecked the camera a few times and once it was ok, the rest came closer.

They are about a week older and also have feathered out and getting their combs.
I am not sure if the one who pecked is a male, or just an assertive female, hopefully tsc had them labeled correctly and I have an assertive female

We are supposed to get storms but I think they will be ok, Do you guys think they are ready to leave the house and rough it in the coop. I will probably have a
heat lamp in the coop in the evenings

thanks

David

I read your note about making phone calls, that's great. Did Cream City prepare/present any FAQ's for the voting members in order to address their concerns? I still think about some of the questions they raised and even if they wanted an answer....
