Amy-super cute chicks!

Keedokes-my fingers are crossed!!!

Welcome Frizzler!!

WCC-sorry about to hear the job interview was not what you thought it would be. Shame on the interviewer person. She should have been truethfull in stating what she was looking for. Wasting your time and your gas was not cool.

Otonoh-your chicks are so cute! Your TSC Comets look smaller then mine did at the same age! They have much smaller feet too!! Mine are sweet birds. One is very skittish, one is interested but leary until you make her stand to get petted, then she loves it! The other one is beyond friendly and loves to get her chest scratched-especially when her craw is full! Your look to be all girls to me! They also look feathered enough to go outside. With a light on them at night you should be ok. As long as the don't get soaked and they can stay warm and dry they will be alright.

dk1-glad to hear your feeling better! I can't wait to hear about your furniture....
wink.png

Had a busy day today and it was NOT doing laundry! That is on tap for tomorrow! I got the chicks and duck separated into 4 more brooders and have set up a "hospital" tank. That is the tank where Buzzy lives. So Nurse Buzzy is kinda confused. Buzzy's digs got to be the Hospital Wing mainly because I have no more brooder storage totes left. I have one Cornish that is super small and I think just rather runty and won't make just because. I've only lost one out of 182 so far. That one was a Cornish he fell into the waterer and got wet. Dried him off and he was doing really well, but just up and died. Such a Cornish thing to do.
roll.png

The other punkie one is a Barred Rock but she got into the tank and drank for ever and now is roaming the hospital wing looking for her buds. I think I have to either move her back or bring a friend down. I have one EE that is trying to decide on being punkie but cant make up it's mind. So we'll see.

Oh! Criminal Minds is on...gotta go! Night!

DK1, you chicken!
lol.png
I would say maybe it is an acquired taste, but I know that's not true. I hated darn near everything when I was a kid. Now I eat darn near everything in sight.
lol.png
I figure I'll try anything once, and since hubby was raised on the stuff, I figured I'd give it a try. Turns out it really is tasty. I think I eat more of it than hubby does. But you have to get the good, homemade stuff, not that store-bought cr**. His cousins used to make it for us all the time. It's all in the spices. LOL. I'd give anything to see some of your faces right now!
lau.gif

I am happy to hear you are feeling better today. Hope that continues for you. And, oh, you are a brave and trusting woman letting DH pick out your stuff. Or he's got a really thick hide.
wink.png
Can't wait to hear how that goes.
Oh, Amy! Those are the most adorable babies!!!!!! What are those beautiful gray/silver ones? I think I'm in love!
love.gif

H&R, sorry to hear about your roo troubles. Hope you are ok.
Dooner, orps are my most favorite breed. They are so friendly and tame. Mine jump in my lap and lay right down. I have 2 buffs & 2 black aussies in the brooder right now (they are going out Friday, weather permitting), and from day one, when the other chicks would run away, the buffs would crawl right into my hand whenever I would put it in there. They are such good chickens for pets. I have also heard they are average for laying frequency, about 3-4 eggs per week, and lay a large brown egg. They are also heavily feathered, making them great birds for laying straight through winter & tolerant of cold temps.
Raim, I'm so jealous. What a great hubby you have. Mine is wonderful, but he just doesn't get chicken math. He seems to think I have enough chickens.
barnie.gif

otonoh, love your chick pics. I am sure the one who pecked the camera was the head hen-to-be. As long as you'll be having a heat lamp for them, I am sure they will be ok, just scared with the new environment.
WCC, I'm sorry to hear the job interview didn't pan out. How frustrating.
Hello, Frizzler!! Welcome!
Gotta go fold the last of the laundry.
sad.png
Have a great evening, everyone!

Hi everyone! Been busy with school and kids and everything else. Haven't even had time to be on here for about 3 weeks! I'm not even going to try to catch back up. Hope everyone is doing well and everyone's chickies are happy. Well I'm off to read back a couple pages. Take care all!

So excited!!! The eggs have internally pipped under Jules!!!!

Dr.H, I think I own that movie. Anytime you want to borrow it you are more than welcome to, just as long as you have a DVD player.... it was made for you!
wink.png

Feeling better today, I think if I leave the Claritin on the counter next to the coffee pot I will remember to take it....
big_smile.png

I have the Saturday of the bash OFF!!!!!!
wee.gif
YAY!!!!! I cannot wait to see all of you again and for all of you to meet the rest of the gang!!!

Time to candle eggs in the incubator. Later all!

Sorry to hear about the job scam, why do they do that to people?
rant.gif

My DH had a few Jahova Whitness (sp) folks stop by and the Lady said she had a few questions she wanted to ask him. He said turn around and go home and read that book in your hand and you will find all the answers to your questions.

Amyable, those are some cuties. Was that your resting bench? not sure who posted the pic, sure was a pretty place and great pic. I was wondering if you live on 96 and have a eggs for sale sign out by the mailbox? I was driving home last week and thought of you on that road.
Good luck with the saw DrH, funny how we get attached to things.
Have a good night

WHEW! I started reading after dinner at 7:30 and finally am finished and caught up! To bad my memory isnt good enough to remember what everyone said! I can tell it was a rainy day cause you all posted so much...I went to Milwaukee for breakfast with my BFF and then went to visit with my Mom. THe construction on I94 is horrendous! Felt like I spent the entire day driving. I just found out today that the weekend of the bash is also the weekend of the State 4H Hunt show! DD19 wants to show on Friday and Sunday...It is at the Sheboygan Cty fairgrounds and I was hoping we could do both things. We are in the process of working out how we can get her and the horse to the show, me to chicken stock and still leave someone here to do chores! Oh brother--what a headache!

Today I got a cement yard hen to match my rooster I got last year! Also at the market I picked up 2 heirloom tomato plants. "Orange A(something)" and a "Pink Brandywine" I hope they do well. They plants are really stocky and healthy looking. He was also selling "soy free" eggs and regular eggs. $5.75 and $4 respectively!!!
ep.gif
Man, I have trouble getting $2doz! Well, maybe he doesnt really sell any? Anyway, I was pretty excited to see the cement hen!

OK--I am going to bed...DrH--dont get hurt with that tree! Ya know your reflexes arent as good as they used to be!
old.gif

Glad to hear you are feeling better DKV!
Too bad you arent making the bash Raiquee...are you SURE you cant come?
Jim I wish I could just sell of a flock like that...I think I get too attached!
H&R--the mean ones always taste better!
I cant believe that DA is moving (moved?) How come he didnt say anything???
Raim goats are a blast...till they eat up all your stuff!
Is head cheese the same as "soultz" My Dad used to eat that all the time. I have no idea how to spell it and neither does spell check!
Sleep tight! Terri O

ETA: I just hate not to be able to spell something correctly so here it is for your information (and mine!)

Sliced head cheese
German Sülze

Head cheese (AmE) or brawn (BrE) is a cold cut originating in Europe. Another version pickled with vinegar is known as souse. Head cheese is not a cheese but a terrine or meat jelly made with flesh from the head of a calf or pig (sometimes a sheep or cow), and often set in aspic. While the parts used can vary, the brain, eyes and ears are often removed. The tongue, and sometimes even the feet and heart may be included. Head cheese may be flavored with onion, black pepper, allspice, bay leaf, salt, and vinegar. It is usually eaten cold or at room temperature as a luncheon meat. It can also be made from quality trimmings from pork and veal, adding gelatin to the stock as a binder.

Historically meat jellies were made of the cleaned (all organs removed) head of the animal, which was simmered to produce stock, a peasant food made since the Middle Ages. When cooled, the stock congeals because of the natural gelatin found in the skull. The aspic may need additional gelatin in order to set properly.

See--they spell it two ways!

For those asking, the blue-gray chicks are Blue Ameraucanas; I bought the eggs from a lady in Appleton, she also has a flock of black ones. The lone black chick she hatched is from my mixed flock, the mom is an orange EE and dad is probably an Ancona (or possibly my blue Ameraucana from Jim, but I doubt it, he's low totem pole guy.) I have to agree, they are beauties!

Susie, that is not me on Hwy 96, though I've seen that sign too. I don't know who lives there, we are in Wayside. And yes, the bench pic is from our backyard. Our house is a bit quirky, but the acreage rocks.

DrH, you make me nervous talking about that tree. I hope you get your saw out of it without damage, to the saw or you!

Terri, of course the Bash takes precedence, silly.

That head cheese description is positively nauseating.

to TerriO! A+ on the homework. I am one of those people too, who likes to do research on things unknown to me.
Head cheese & sulze are both very common throughout Europe, or at least used to be. Each region has their own take on it, or recipe, kinda like sausage. They were especially common during wartime, when food was harder to come by and nothing went to waste. As the times & conditions improved, the quality & ingredients of both improved also. My hubby's family came over to the US right after WW2, and they brought their love of making sausage/head cheese/sulze with them. They preferred to make the "Hungarian" style, which was very heavy on paprika and garlic, and they never really used any parts of the head to make it. They preferred hocks, knuckles, etc. I don't know what else exactly, and really never wanted to know. They definitely used pig knuckles in the sulze, or meat jello, which I only once was brave enough to try, but that was because I knew we were never going to have it again. His family who used to make the stuff have since passed on. It was pretty good, albeit a little salty & more bland than the head cheese. No paprika in the sulze, but lots of garlic. It kind of resembled the bottom of the roasting pan that you cook the Thanksgiving turkey in. Bits of meat & bone in a gelatinous, well, gel.
I can't really call head cheese a meat jelly. Sulze is a meat jelly, definitely. It has a soft, gel texture. Head cheese is more like any other lunch meat in texture, and won't soften at room temperature. At least ours never did. I will have to ask hubby how his relatives made it exactly. I know it sounds horrible, and it doesn't always look too pretty, but the kind my DH's relatives used to make honestly did taste really good.
Ok, done boring everyone with my useless information. Why aren't I in bed yet?
th.gif

Not useless information Celt! You guys should look up how they make blood and tongue sausage......
sickbyc.gif
THAT stuff looks gross to me, and makes slicers disgusting (yes in a former lifetime I worked at a deli...).

Thanks for posting the pics of what my babies will look like Amyable! I picked up some of her black eggs as well (where the babies are going they are not too picky....)

TO, if you bail on the bash am I released from making that cake?
tongue2.gif
You know that the Bash is MUCH more important than some horsey thingy....
wink.png

Soy-free eggs?????? Are they adding Soy to chicken feed??? (See how much I know about this stuff...) Have they done testing of chicken eggs to determine their Soy content???? I cannot imagine why this would matter...... I suppose just another gimmick to get people to pay handsomely for fresh eggs......

Ok, off to do battle with Hwy 41..... TO I'll trade you road construction messes. For any of you traveling through the Oshkosh area to the bash, avoid it during peak hours of 8 and 5.... the road is 11 feet wide (through most of it) with cement dividers the entire way; you have about 6 inches for error and that is about it.

I hope when I come home today I have baby ducklings to report on!

Good Morning Everyone! CD and TO very interesting info, not what I had running through my head at the mention of head cheese. Sorry it's not passing my lips!
lol.png
And TO I've been waiting for almost a full year to get a hug from you! You CAN'T let me down! And I was thinkin about that tree last night [big surprise] and it dawned on me why don't I use that monster come-along hangin in the garage? DUH Man I'm getting stupider in my advancing years! Yup as you probably recall with the falling off the roof incident I don't bounce like I used to. Amy and otonoh those are some cute chicks!!! otonoh move em on out to the coop their plenty big enough. They'll be runnning around checking things out thinkin this is really cool! Watch me I can nearly fly! I can just see it! WCc sounds like a bait and switch to me too. You wouldn't want to work for an oufit like that in any capacity. Something will come along that suits you. Susie"J" I have to agree with ya on the head cheese just sounds wrong but it's better than say butt cheese.
lau.gif
bl4 hope Jules has a lot of babies! Laura is going to see if she can get that movie through the library hope she can get the DVD version. Yep have a DVD and running water. It's running through the crawlspace right now!
gig.gif
Geez Bec was starting to worry about you! Glad to hear your OK! Check in more often dang it! Worry about Fm too and so many more! Which reminds me I went to the mailbox turned around and here was Peatwo waiting at the end of the driveway for me. So we walked back down the driveway and he'd fall behind and I'd say come on keep up and he'd run to catch up to walk beside me. What a freak!
love.gif
When I go out to put them to bed he never fails to hear the back door and meet me half way to walk back to the coop together. Geez what's not to love. MLH 182

Gotta go let the kids out and gather up my todays application of physics. Think the thought of the amount of energy I would have to expend with the limb saw jarred my memory. Sometimes you just have to walk away and regroup. Have a good one!
